Toseland was in contention to claim a stunning pole position on his MotoGP debut throughout the session. He first climbed to the top of the time-sheets after 19 minutes, when a lap of 1.54.562 moved him 0.1s clear of reigning world champion Casey Stoner.

Burning The Midnight Oil In Qatar
29 February 2008
The lights were switched on at 17.45 hours, local time, at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar today as MotoGP's first official night test kicked off, prior to the first round of the 2008 season next week. It all happened in preparation for the race on 9th March, also at the track, which will be the first Grand Prix ever to be run at night. The history-making illuminations, powered by nearly five and a half million watts of electricity and which represent the largest permanent sports lighting system in the world, lit the 5.4km circuit as the premier class riders started the first of two nights of testing.

MotoGP World Champion Casey Stoner needed just 45 minutes to find his bearings around the floodlit circuit of Losail in Qatar, with almost five and a half million watts lighting up the first official test session at 1800h local time, following a spectacular opening ceremony. Within an hour Stoner had clocked a stunning lap of 1'55.368, inside the current lap record and almost three seconds clear of his nearest rival. Corser Grabs 41ST Superbike Career Pole In Qatar
22 February 2008
Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia) powered to the 41st pole position of his career in the opening round of the 2008 HANNspree Superbike World Championship at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar but he had to work hard to hold off the challenge of Ruben Xaus and Max Biaggi, second and third respectively. Corser’s time of 1’58.053 was four-tenths of a second quicker than the circuit’s best lap, which the 36-year-old Australian set for Yamaha last year. Xaus and Biaggi, both on Ducati 1098 RS08 machines from the private Sterilgarda Go Eleven squad, were heading for a sensational 1-2 before Corser put in his quick lap. Alongside them on the grid for the two races tomorrow will be Alstare Suzuki’s young German rider Max Neukirchner.

Good Start For Suzuki Alstare In Qatar
21 February 2008 | 1 Comment
Despite the incredibly strong winds at the Doha circuit in Qatar today, Team Suzuki Alstare riders Fonsi Nieto and Yukio Kagayama acquitted themselves very well indeed, finishing with the third and fifth fastest times overall. Team Alstare Suzuki rider Max Neukirchner experienced some handling problems, but also didn’t want to risk anything in the difficult conditions, so he kept things steady and finished tenth today. Aussie Troy Corser (Yamaha) ended first qualifying with the day’s fastest lap, 1:59.627, two tenths of a second quicker than his fellow countryman Troy Bayliss (Ducati). Fonsi had been fastest in the morning untimed practice session and ended third quickest in the afternoon, with Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha) fourth. Just behind Haga, was Yukio, with Ruben Xaus (Ducati) rounding out the top six.

Foret Goes Fastest On Day One Of New Season
21 February 2008
Fabien Foret (Yamaha World Supersport Team) made a fabulous start to his 2008 race season by posting the fastest lap of the opening qualifying session at the Losail International circuit in Qatar. The former World Supersport Champion had to fight high winds and a dusty track surface to set a best of 2'03.495, some 0.346 seconds faster than the next best rider. Broc Parkes (Yamaha World Supersport Team) has been the fastest rider of all in pre-season testing, including here in Qatar only a few days ago, but found unexpected issues in the Losail circuit's many fast corners today. He was 13th overall in the official practice session. One more qualifying session remains for both Foret and Parkes to improve their times tomorrow, before the 18-lap race on Saturday 23 February.

Corser On Provisional Pole with Haga Fourth
21 February 2008 | 1 Comment
Troy Corser set the early pace at the first round of the 2008 World Superbike season in Qatar, posting a first day qualifying time of 1'59.627 on race tyres and getting to within half a second of the current lap record. Corser's fellow Yamaha rider Noriyuki Haga secured a provisional front row position of fourth, despite falling heavily two-thirds of the way through the hour long qualifying session. Conditions at Losail were problematic for all riders, with a strong and gusting wind blowing down the kilometre-long main straight, holding down top speed potentials and making corner entry a challenge.
