MRTA Still Seeking Bike Test Solutions

After successful lobbying resulted in the last minute postponement of the new motorcycle test, the RMI Motorcycle Rider Training Association (MRTA) is continuing to work closely with Government to look for innovative solutions for future motorcycle testing.

The Motorcycle Action Group is co-ordinating a campaign to retain the Isle of Wight motorcycle test centre. Motorcyclists on the Isle of Wight will face a long and expensive journey to the mainland in order to take their motorcycle licence test under plans to abolish the islands only motorcycle test centre. This has come about due to the new motorcycle riding test which comes into force in October 2008 which will require purpose built off road test centres.

Christmas Revellers Told - Think! Don't Drink & Drive

In the South East, more than 960 people were hurt in drink drive related accidents at weekends last year, with more than a third of these injured between 10pm and 3am. To remind drivers, and young men in particular, just how badly getting behind the wheel after drinking can affect their lives, the Christmas drink drive THINK! campaign was launched by the Department for Transport today.

New Statistics Suggest Impending EU Legislation is Bringing More People into Motorcycling

New statistics released by the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) appear to show that the impending Second Driving Licence Directive (2DLD) EU legislation, coming into effect in October 2008, is getting more people out on two wheels as the number of people taking and passing their test has grown.

Time To Get Your Motorcycle Licence

As details of new motorcycle licence test arrangements for late 2008 are finalised by the Government, the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI) is launching a major campaign to encourage people to take up motorcycling and get their full licence. Driven by European legislation, The Second European Driving Licence Directive, or 2DLD, will come into force in September 2008 and will introduce new elements to motorcycle testing and training.

BMF say Licence Directive Deferred – but not dead

The EU Council of Ministers has deferred a decision on the Third Driving Licence Directive, but warns that the threat still remains. The British Motorcyclists Federation has welcomed the news. The BMF has campaigned against the Directive, which is designed to ‘improve the free movement of EU citizens by ensuring and facilitating mutual recognition of all licences. Reducing the possibilities for fraud and increase road safety’. Regardless, it still includes substantial changes to the existing UK motorcycle driving licencing laws.

Learn to ride with the World of BMW

Learning to ride a motorcycle comes naturally to some and not so for others. Either way, it’s a good instructor who brings it all together and helps the pupil become a confident new motorcyclist. For 2006 the World of BMW will offer Rider Training including Direct Access courses for anyone over 21 to obtain their full motorcycle licence. Pupils with absolutely no motorcycling experience, right through to people who have already obtained a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) are catered for in the range of courses available.

Driving licence directive uncertain

Following extensive lobbying, the much feared 'Third Driving Licence Directive' stands a chance of failing when EU Ministers meet in Brussels next Monday, say the (BMF) British Motorcyclists Federation. Despite this, the British Government through its UK Presidency, saying that it was not willing to consider any amendments.
