Meklau Scores Podium at German SBK Opener
08 May 2008
With a place in the front row of the grid at the Euro Speedway Lausitz, Andreas Meklau gained an excellent starting position to finish on the podium in the first race of the International German Superbike championship season.
The 40-year-old Austrian rider from Team SUZUKI International Europe took the chequered flag in third place after a tough, but fair, struggle with Jarg Teuchert (Yamaha), during which the two bikes even touched on occasion.
Meklau was third in the second heat again, following Bauer and Teuchert across the line after Dario Giuseppetti on the Ducati was penalised and moved five places down the list of finishers after a complaint for allegedly leaving and returning to the starting grid had been upheld.

Yamaha On Every Step Of The Podium
10 September 2007
The weather was kind to the World Superbike Championship today as the rain disappeared and the sun came out while Haga and Corser took three podiums between them; one on each step of the podium. Haga took the win in race one and rounded it up with a second place in race two, while Corser finished third in the first race and fifth in the second. Race one started well for Haga as he went from eighth to second in the first few laps. Undeterred by the gap that Bayliss had created between first and second, Haga just put his head down and reduced the margin lap by lap until the two riders were tyre to tyre on lap 14. Haga made his move on the next lap with a traditional Haga-style close pass and then just kept going. He finished the race a clear 11 seconds ahead of the rest of the field; his fourth win of the season.

Yamaha Takes The Supersport Win
10 September 2007
Broc Parkes tasted victory today for the second consecutive round when he fended off Sofuoglu to take the chequered flag at the EuroSpeedway circuit in Germany. Team mate Tommy Hill put in a sterling performance to finish fifth. Parkes got a good start and moved up to second straight away behind Sofuoglu. The pair broke away from the rest of the field and the challenge for the race win was on. Parkes and Sofuoglu diced for the lead passing each other virtually every lap until Parkes made a pass on lap 21 that the other rider couldn't respond to. This fight for first took the two riders so far ahead of the field that Parkes ended up 23 seconds ahead of third placed man Lagrive when he crossed the line for the final time. This is Parkes' second win of the season and puts him in third place in championship. After the race there was a query raised about whether Broc had made the final pass on Sofuoglu under a waved yellow flag, but it was not upheld.

Nebel In The Points For Lightspeed Kawasaki
10 September 2007
Stefan Nebel (Lightspeed Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) scored a point in his first ever WSS race for the team at his home circuit of Eurospeedway Lausitz. After starting from 26th place on the grid, after second qualifying was disrupted by rain, he overcame a less than perfect start and soon made up ground on his opponents. Even when his rear tyre started to slide, he was able to continue at a high pace to the end of the 23 laps.

Tough Day For Foret & Riba
10 September 2007
Fabien Foret (Gil Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) kept his second place in the WSS championship rankings today, despite being unable to finish the 23-lap Eurospeedway Lausitz race. Pere Riba (GIL Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) experienced similar problems to his team-mate, severe chatter from the rear, and that negated his push for championship points, as he finished 17th. He also experienced premature rear tyre wear and that also slowed his overall progress.

Strong Scores For Kawasaki’s Front Row Starters
10 September 2007
Superpole winner Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) and second fastest qualifier Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) each started from enviable positions in Germany, and scored good points in each 24-lap race, which were held in mercifully dry conditions. In race one Laconi was highest finisher for the team, in sixth place, just one up on Nieto. The race was won by Noriyuki Haga, by 11 seconds from Max Biaggi.

Xavier Defies The Pain Barrier To Take 5th!
10 September 2007
Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra rider Xavi Simeon spent the whole 14-lap Superstock 1000 FIM Cup race in agony, but somehow defied the pain to take a tremendous fifth place. The problem with his left ankle once again flared up, and after a couple of laps he was struggling to maintain his place and concentration. Somehow he kept going and in the end finished fifth, but less then two and a half seconds behind the race winner Didier Van Keymeulen (Yamaha). Second was Niccolo Canepa (Ducati), with Claudio Corti (Yamaha) third. But with series leader Matteo Baiocco (Yamaha) finishing eighth, it means that the gap between him and Xavi at the top of the table is now reduced to nine points.

Lammert Takes A Home Win!
10 September 2007
German rider Dominic Lammert used his local knowledge to superb advantage and won the Suzuki GSX-R European Cup race at the Eurospeedway Lausitz. Lammert had been fastest in dry qualifying and had taken pole for the 11-lap race and looked in control of the race, despite the close attentions of Patric Muff and Steven Michels. His win today, gives him a nine point advantage over Frenchman Emeric Jonchiere, with Ismael Ortega a further four points adrift.

Pirelli Race Review– Lausitz
10 September 2007
A surprising first row, on a tricky racetrack made more difficult due to the weather conditions. Riders on Saturday found a challenging situation, because of a racetrack that offered poor grip. Lausitzring is a circuit which seldom offers good grip in any conditions, but this time was worse than usual because of the rubber left on the racetrack by previous car races. Superbike had to deal with a wet Superpole, and Nieto and Laconi, the two official Kawasaki riders, were the first to enter the racetrack and took the 1st and 2nd positions, exploiting the first few seconds of dry tarmac. With them on the first row were Bayliss and Corser, on Ducati and Yamaha respectively.

Two Podiums For Max
10 September 2007
Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra rider Max Biaggi took podiums in both 24-lap races at the Eurospeedway Lausitz today. He took a superb second place in race one and then followed it up with a third in race two. Max’s team mate Yukio Kagayama was unable to take part in proceedings today due to a hand injury sustained yesterday. His wrist was badly swollen this morning, so he went to the Clinica Mobile this morning for a check-up. X-rays of his right wrist revealed that he had a fracture of his fifth metacarpal and so was unable to race.

Toseland Maintains Lead At Lausitz
10 September 2007
HANNspree Ten Kate Honda's James Tosleand maintained his series lead after a challenging day of racing at the Eurospeedway Lausitz in Germany today. The British rider now holds a 41-point advantage over nearest rival Noriyuki Haga following two tough races at the 4.265km circuit. Team-mate Roberto Rolfo performed well to hold onto his eighth place in the standings. Race one bought mixed fortunes for the HANNspree Ten Kate Honda riders. Rolfo got off to a good start from his third row position and was able to fight his way through the ranks to cross the finish line in an impressive fifth place. Toseland started from seventh on the grid, but a problem with the rear tyre on his CBR1000RR prevented the British rider from improving his position. He put up a strong fight to eventually finish in ninth place and pick up seven valuable points.

10th Podium Of The Year For Sofuoglu
10 September 2007
Round 11 of the 2007 World Supersport Championship concluded at Lausitz today with yet another podium finish for HANNspree Ten Kate Honda's Kenan Sofuoglu. The Turkish rider added a further 20 points to his standings tally, which sees Honda secure the Manufacturers' Championship with two rounds remaining. Sofuoglu started today's 23-lap race determined to claim the victory - despite already claiming the series title at Brands Hatch. He got off to great start and entered into a fierce battle for the top spot with Broc Parkes. The pair swapped places numerous times in an exhilarating display of inch-perfect riding that had the 49,500 spectators on the edge of their seats.

Bayliss Takes Thrilling Victory Against Haga In Race 2
10 September 2007
Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) bounced back from his race 1 defeat to take a thrilling victory from Yamaha's Noriyuki Haga in the German Round of the World Superbike Championship at the EuroSpeedway. In the first 24-lap encounter Troy made all the running until half-distance, but tyre problems meant that he was passed by Haga and then by Max Biaggi (Suzuki) and Troy Corser (Yamaha) four laps from the end, finishing fourth. The second race was showing a similar pattern to the first as Haga again passed Troy on lap 14 to take the lead, but this time the team had fitted a harder front tyre to his 999, which certainly contributed to the result, and Troy was then able to re-pass his Japanese rival on lap 20 to take the chequered flag for his fortieth Superbike win.

Yamaha Slide Onto The Front Row In Germany
09 September 2007
Today's World Superbike qualifying sessions were all about the weather as rain, standing water and excess rubber on the track turned the EuroSpeedway circuit into a slippery customer. But Corser and Haga persevered and were rewarded with fourth and eighth qualifying positions respectively. This morning's final qualifying session was declared wet and unfortunately 11 riders fell foul of the track conditions during the hour. Corser, Haga and Nakatomi were all victims during the session but without injury. Corser and Haga both re-joined the session but Nakatomi sat the remainder out. With lap times 20 seconds slower than yesterday there was no change to the rider order from the first qualifying session.

Yamaha Confirm 3rd & 7th Qualifying Positions
09 September 2007
What should have been another normal day of qualifying today was marred from the outset by bad weather conditions. Constant rain since last night had turned the track into an ice-skating rink for this morning's free practice and resulted in 16 riders crashing or running into the gravel during the 45 minute session and times 40 seconds slower than yesterday. Tommy Hill and Broc Parkes waited until the 30 minute mark to make their entrance onto the track in the hope of being able to find a good wet set-up. Even though the track was slippery both riders made good progress on their settings, before focusing on the important job of qualifying.

Rain Stops Play For Riba & Foret
09 September 2007
With the second qualifying session proving to be wet at Eurospeedway Lausitz Pere Riba (GIL Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) and Fabien Foret (Gil Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) were deprived of a second chance to improve their qualifying positions from day one. Thanks to their times in the first dry qualifying session, Riba will now line up on row three for the race, after scoring 12th best laptime, while Foret now has to start from 18th place on the grid.

Nieto Takes Sensational Superpole Win
09 September 2007
Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) chose a successful Superpole strategy to secure his first ever SBK pole position, and in a great day for the Kawasaki riders Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) took second best time. With the ‘wet’ Superpole rules in place, due to wet weather marring most of the second day of qualifying, the 50-minute session started out with a largely dry track surface and most riders running slicks. Nieto could sense the rains coming and decided to make a quick exit from pitlane, getting out fastest and first, and he managed to get his ZX-10R across the line just before the rains came back with real vengeance. Hence his best time was almost four seconds faster than his team-mate Laconi, who made the best job possible after half the track suddenly became drenched in rain water.

Front Row For Xavier!
09 September 2007
Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra rider Xavi Simeon clocked the fourth quickest time in qualifying and will start tomorrow’s Superstock 1000 race from the front row of the grid. Fortunately, Xavi did not have any problems with his ankle today and was able to ride his bike without discomfort. Because of today’s damp conditions, all the lap times to determine the grid were taken from yesterday’s qualifying session. That meant Niccolo Canepa (Ducati) is on pole position, with Claudio Corti (Yamaha) second and Didier Van Keymeulen (Yamaha) third and Xavi fourth.

Second Row For Max
09 September 2007
Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra rider Max Biaggi will start tomorrow’s pair of Superbike World Championship races from the second row of the grid after qualifying fifth quickest in a ‘Wet Superpole’ session. In the afternoon untimed practice, it looked as if the track was drying out from the earlier rain, but ten minutes or so before the start of Superpole it began to drizzle and so a ‘Wet Superpole’ was called. That meant all sixteen Superpole competitors had fifty minutes in which to complete a maximum of twelve laps to determine the grid positions.

Bayliss Grabs 3rd Place In Wet Lausitz Superpole
09 September 2007
Troy Bayliss grabbed third place on the grid for tomorrow's German Round of the World Superbike Championship in an exciting Superpole session held in poor weather conditions at the EuroSpeedway. Troy will start the two races from the front row behind surprise poleman Fonsi Nieto and Regis Laconi. Team-mate Lorenzo Lanzi lines up on the third row of the grid in eleventh place. Everyone went out on slicks in the first four dry minutes of the session, but the only riders to complete a full lap before the rain fell were the Kawasaki duo. Bayliss stalled his 999 at the end of the pit-lane before setting off on his dry lap, which as a result he was unable to complete, but he then made up for it by being the quickest rider on rain tyres.
