The Lakeside Hammers speedway team head into 2009 quietly confident of their chances of replicating the success of last season, which saw them finish level on points at the top of the British Elite League. "The beginning of 2008 saw us landed with the burden of joint favourites, and it's fair to say we punched well above our weight in a very successful season," said Hammers co-promoter, Stuart Douglas. "This year the spotlight seems to be pointing in a different direction, which is fine by me, as we'd much rather be left to get on quietly with our business and do our talking on the track."

Chalking up another 'first' for the Lakeside Hammers, the 2009 team will be unveiled in a special webcast broadcast live over the internet. Explaining the new approach, Co-promoter Jon Cook revealed "The days of releasing details of your team one at a time were designed for the era of the club call lines. Methodology moves on with progress, and this is a way of showing this Club has a finger on the pulse and an eye on the future. I'm very excited about this team and extremely optimistic about our chances of continuing the rapid ascent of the Hammers as a major club in British Speedway".

The Lakeside Hammers have confirmed that the long serving Leigh Lanham will not feature in their 2009 team plans.? Lanham completed his eleventh season at the Club last year and his partnership with Andreas Jonsson was one of the most successful in the Club’s history and played a major part in such a memorable season.

The Lakeside Hammers today announced that they would be tracking a team in 2009 minus their 2008 Number 1, Andreas Jonsson. The news follows in the wake of the BSPA's Conference ruling stipulating that all Elite League teams are formed to a points limit not exceeding 39.90.

Douglas Apologies for Farewell Failure

Hammers team owner Stuart Douglas today issued an apology to the fans after the home campaign fizzled out in a disappointing fashion. "I hold my hands up for the shambles of a farewell last night - the riders did not do themselves justice on track, and we let ourselves down off track, too." said Douglas.
