Fighting Sixth for Rizla Suzuki’s Capirossi at Motegi
28 September 2008
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racer Loris Capirossi produced a hard fought race to bring his Suzuki GSV-R home in sixth position at Motegi today. Starting from sixth on the grid, Capirossi maintained the position early on as he kept up with the break-away front group, but a mistake on lap 12 cost him dearly and he dropped back towards the following pack. He chased back to Nicky Hayden in fifth, and was close enough to make a challenge on the last lap, but he had a big slide and the opportunity disappeared. Capirossi scored 10 points for his sixth place finish and has now moved up to ninth in the riders’ championship.

Top-10 For Hopkins
23 September 2007
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP had a frustrating Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi today with all three riders suffering various levels of difficulties over an entertaining and bizarre 24-lap race. John Hopkins was the highest finishing Rizla Suzuki rider with 10th place. He struggled to get enough grip right from the start of the race – which was wet after heavy showers this morning – and lost several places early on. As the track began to dry he pitted his GSV-R at the end of lap 10 to change to a machine with dry tyres. He re-joined the race in 16th place and set about chasing down the pack in front of him, fighting his way through the field and eventually bringing his bike home in 10th.

Difficult Qualifying At Motegi For Rizla Suzuki
22 September 2007
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racers John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen suffered their worst grid positions of the season as the pair struggled to improve significantly on their race tyre times during this afternoon’s qualifying session for tomorrow’s Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi. Hopkins (P11, 1’47.163, 23 laps) will start outside of the top-10 for the first time this season and will be looking for one of his now customary good starts to make sure he is able to get away with the front runners. He had improved on his race pace though throughout the day and looks strong and consistent. Hopkins is still in a confident mood as he heads into tomorrow’s race and is sure that he can put on a good show for Suzuki at its home GP.

The race was red flagged twice due to fallen riders in the track and on the final restart, Abe led again with the Suzuki men further back in the pack.

Solid Day’s Work For Rizla Suzuki In Spain
24 March 2007
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racers John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen recorded the seventh and eighth fastest times respectively during today’s free practice sessions for the Jerez Grand Prix on Sunday. Hopkins (1’41.245, 49 laps) is still suffering from his hand injury, but put together some fast laps on his Suzuki GSV-R as he worked with his team to find the best combination of Bridgestone race tyres to match the new 800cc bike’s performance around the 4.4km track. Hopkins missed the IRTA test at Jerez earlier in the year – due to the injuries he sustained at Qatar – and had to take a gamble on the correct tyres to use because he had no data as to how the new bike would perform on this circuit.

Mixed Day For Rizla Suzuki At Motegi
23 September 2006
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racer John Hopkins had a day of two distinct halves in Japan today as the morning session saw him as one of the fastest riders on race tyres, but a crash in qualifying saw him relegated to the fifth row for tomorrow’s race. The 23-year-old Anglo-American has been up with the quickest times all weekend on his Bridgestone race tyres and continued that this morning. Hopkins (P13, 1’47.071) continued to test the tyres he will use in tomorrow’s race whilst other riders chose to use qualifiers in the first session. He showed that he has a good race set-up as he recorded consistently fast laps. The afternoon qualifying session didn’t go to plan and a heavy crash with 10 minutes remaining cost Hopkins valuable time, he was able to get back on track on his second bike but couldn’t better his earlier time.

This enabled him to spend the afternoon’s hour long session to try many other settings on his Rizla Suzuki GSV-R to find additional performance. Hopkins and his crew learnt many things in the session and now have a clear direction for Sunday.
