Improvements At Valencia For Konica Minolta Honda
04 November 2007
In the final qualifying session of the year the Konica Minolta Honda Team made plenty of progress around the 2.764-mile Ricardo Tormo circuit. With temperatures warmer than yesterday Team rider Shinya Nakano found more grip from his Michelin-shod Honda RC212V and with 14 minutes to go in the qualifying hour was as high as 4th place on the grid. As other riders improved, Shinya put his final qualifying tyre on and was setting a fast first and second sector time before a mistake at the end of the back-straight lost him valuable time. Despite this, the 30-year-old Japanese rider had cut almost two seconds from his Friday lap-time during the session to record a best of 1’32.730” to place him 13th on the grid for tomorrow’s final race of the year. Times were close at the top again, with less than one second covering the top ten grid positions.

Steady Progress For Konica Minolta Honda At Final 07 GP
03 November 2007
Shinya Nakano and the Konica Minolta Honda Team made steady progress during the first practice session for this weekend’s final MotoGP race of the year. Shinya and the Team were struggling a little with the lower than expected temperatures at the 2.764-mile circuit. The Team altered the weight balance of their Honda RC212V machine to try and give 30-year-old Nakano more feeling from the front-end of the bike in Valencia’s challenging tight turns. Tomorrow it is expected that temperatures will be higher – more like the normal conditions at the Ricardo Tormo circuit for the time of year – which should lead to more grip from the circuit and improved laptimes. Once more the times were close amongst the MotoGP riders with just one second covering the top 13 riders.

Nakano Out Of Points In Malaysian MotoGP Race
21 October 2007
Shinya Nakano suffered a disappointing Malaysian Grand Prix today. The 30-year-old Konica Minolta Honda rider spent most of the 21-lap race struggling with front-end issues at the 3.447-mile circuit, which meant he was unable to hold onto the points-winning positions. The Team will now re-group and check the data from today’s race to make set-up improvements to their 800cc RC212V machine in time for the final round of the 2007 MotoGP championship in Valencia in two weeks time.

14th For Shinya Nakano At Malaysian GP
20 October 2007
After a difficult Friday practice, things have improved for the Konica Minolta Honda Team, with Shinya Nakano cutting more than two-and-a-half seconds from his Friday time. The 30-year-old Japanese rider was in the top ten for part of the qualifying hour as he took advantage of softer qualifying rubber, but by the time the chequered flag came out he had been pushed back to 14th place on the grid. He and the Team know that they still need to refine the settings on their Honda RC212V machine in time for tomorrow’s 21-lap race at the 3.447-mile circuit.

Difficult Conditions For Konica Minolta Honda At Malaysian GP
19 October 2007
Changeable weather conditions have once more hampered the Konica Minolta Honda Team’s progress during the first practice day for this weekend’s MotoGP race. Team rider Shinya Nakano also suffered two harmless crashes today – one a result of a mechanical problem for the rider ahead of him when the 30-year-old Japanese rider collided with Chaz Davies and crashed. The second crash in the afternoon session happened at the end of the timed hour when the former 250cc GP runner-up was pushing hard to improve his time in the tricky conditions. It is hoped that the weather and temperature will improve in time for tomorrow’s qualifying session at the 3.447-mile circuit.

Penultimate Round For Konica Minolta Honda In Malaysia
17 October 2007
Konica Minolta Honda and Shinya Nakano are heading to Malaysia for this weekend’s penultimate MotoGP race of 2007 at the Sepang race circuit. After the cool conditions of Phillip Island, the conditions at Sepang – MotoGP’s only tropical racetrack – are normally very different. Track temperature can be around the 50-degree mark, making tyre choice crucial for a good result in qualifying and the race. The 3.447-mile circuit is a wide, modern track, designed by Hermann Tilke, who also designed the Bahrain, Turkish and Shanghai circuits. The track itself is built on the site of a former swamp, and was completed in time for its first race in December 1998. Unlike Phillip Island, there are no gradients, but instead there are two main straights where top speeds approach almost 180mph.

Konica Minolta Honda Take 13th Place At Australian Grand Prix
14 October 2007
Shinya Nakano and his Konica Minolta Honda Team took 13th place at today’s Australian Grand Prix. The 30-year-old Japanese rider made a good start from eighth position on the grid and managed to get into a good rhythm while inside the top ten, but from the middle of the race Shinya began to experience some front-end chatter from his RC212V in Phillip Island’s slower corners and dropped back through the pack to 13th position at the flag.

Third Row For Konica Minolta Honda At Australian Grand Prix
13 October 2007
Shinya Nakano and his Konica Minolta Honda Team have put their Honda RC212V into eighth position for tomorrow’s 27-lap Australian Grand Prix. With changeable weather conditions so far dominating proceedings at the Phillip Island circuit, today’s qualifying hour was mercifully the only MotoGP session to be completely dry. Shinya took advantage of set-up improvements to his 800cc Honda machine to record a time more than three seconds quicker than his Friday lap-time to secure his third row grid slot. The Team will now keep an eye on the weather situation once more in tomorrow’s morning warm-up before making their final choice on race tyres.

Konica Minolta Honda 12th In Australian GP
12 October 2007
Changeable weather conditions have once more been the hallmark of the first practice sessions for this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix. Shinya Nakano and his Konica Minolta Honda Team spent today’s two sessions adapting to the conditions and testing both slick and wet Michelin rubber. The mixture of wet and then dry weather in both hour-long sessions made for tricky track conditions around the undulating 2.764-mile circuit and the wind in the afternoon also made the going difficult around this exposed Island track. Tomorrow the Team will work on improving the turning capability of their Honda RC212V machine and test a number of Michelin tyres to find the best combination of set-up and suitable rubber for Sunday’s 27-lap race, whatever the weather conditions.

Konica Minolta Honda Head ‘Down Under’
09 October 2007
The picturesque circuit of Phillip Island plays host to the 16th round of the MotoGP championship this weekend. The undulating 2.764-mile circuit is a favourite for both riders and fans as the fast, flowing circuit normally makes for exciting, close racing. The Konica Minolta Honda Team and rider Shinya Nakano will be hoping that their improved form in practice and qualifying from the last two GPs will now be converted into a solid top-ten race result on Sunday’s race afternoon.

Konica Minolta Honda Out Of The Points In Japan
23 September 2007
It proved to be a tough home race for Shinya Nakano and the Konica Minolta Honda Team at today’s Japanese Grand Prix. With rain arriving in time for the morning warm-up, Shinya was 11th fastest as he and the Team made set-up preparations for a wet start to this afternoon’s 24-lap race. The race was declared wet, but within just a few laps conditions began to change and as the track began to dry out, it was only a matter of time before the riders had to pit to switch to their second bikes fitted with dry-weather tyres and settings. Shinya pitted his Konica Minolta Honda with 12 laps to go but found that he did not have enough grip from his slick tyres in the difficult conditions and also had a vibration problem from the rear of his Honda RCV212V machine.

Konica Minolta Honda 12th For Japanese GP
22 September 2007
Konica Minolta Honda rider Shinya Nakano shaved almost a second-and-a-half from his Friday lap-time in today’s qualifying session for the Japanese Grand Prix. The former 250cc GP championship runner-up improved the set-up of his Honda RC212V around the 2.98mile Twin Ring Motegi circuit, but will make some further changes to the front-end of his 800cc machine in time for tomorrow’s 24-lap race. Weather conditions continue to be hot, although it is expected to be a little cooler in time for tomorrow’s race.

Konica Minolta Honda Swelters At Hot Japanese GP
21 September 2007
The first practice sessions for this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix took place in sweltering weather conditions today. Once more the lap times were extremely close with the top 15 riders being covered by just one second. Shinya Nakano spent the day evaluating tyres and making suspension changes to his Konica MinoltaHonda RCV212V, as he tried to find a tyre and suspension combination that worked well around the 2.98mile Twin Ring Motegi circuit. After being in the top ten during the morning session, the former All-Japan 250cc champion slipped to 12th in the afternoon’s session, but is confident of making improvements before tomorrow’s qualifying session.

Konica Minolta Honda Head Home For Japanese GP
19 September 2007
This weekend sees the 15th round of the MotoGP championship at the Twin Ring Motegi complex in Japan. The race is a very important one for the entire Team. Not only because their rider Shinya Nakano is Japanese, but the Honda RCV212V machinery and Konica Minolta title sponsor also come from the Land of the Rising Sun. Konica Minolta Honda’s results at Motegi have previously been excellent, with Makoto Tamada taking a third-place finish there in 2005 for the Team. Shinya Nakano’s own results there have been good too, with the 29-year-old rider taking a third-place finish at Motegi in 2004 in the MotoGP class.

Poor Start Hampers Konica Minolta Honda
17 September 2007
The Konica Minolta Honda Team finished today’s Portuguese Grand Prix in 11th position after suffering a bad start to the 28-lap race. With high hopes after increased performance from the Honda RC212V and Michelin tyres had been found, bad-luck saw Shinya Nakano drop to 17th place with 21 laps of the race still to go. During the race, the battle for position between 9th and 15th was close and as hard-fought as that at the front, with only a few seconds covering six riders. Shinya was able to overtake a number of riders and take advantage of some retirements to finish just outside the top 10 in 11th place. The championship now moves on to Japan and the Twin Ring Motegi circuit as the season enters its final phase with the three ‘fly-away’ rounds of Japan, Australia and Malaysia.

Konica Minolta Honda Continues Positive Progress
15 September 2007
Shinya Nakano and his Konica Minolta Honda Team enjoyed another positive day today at the 2.6mile Estoril circuit in Portugal. Despite a crash on his number one bike with 47 minutes to go in the qualifying session, the 29-year-old Japanese rider’s improved feedback and feeling from his ‘Number 2’ 800cc RC212V machine with Michelin tyres meant that he could still shave more than a second from yesterday’s best lap time. The former 250cc World Championship runner-up managed to stay in the top ten for most of the hour session, despite the second bike not being as well set-up for Estoril’s tight twists and turns. However, the improvements found in the overall KONICA MINOLTA Honda technical package means that both Team and rider are confident for an improved result in tomorrow’s 28-lap race.
