Shane Byrne heads confidently into his favourite Brands Hatch circuit for the rescheduled round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship this weekend intent on tightening his grip on the title that he last held five year ago. The Airwaves Ducati rider has won three of the four races held so far, opening up a 39 points advantage over his team-mate Leon Camier and unusually as Byrne prepares for these races, on the demanding grand prix circuit, that could be crucial to his hopes, he already knows that he will be on pole position for them.

Bennetts BSB Pirelli Race Review Oulton Park

In race 1 the drama engulfed the opening British Superbike race at Oulton Park. With rain spotting as the riders took their positions at the end of the sighting lap, the red flag brought a swift conclusion as a host of riders, including holeshot rider Tom Sykes, crashing at the first corner. A swift re-start ensued of the full 18-lap race distance. Sykes took the holeshot on his Rizla Suzuki again, stretching his lead to almost a second from Crutchlow’s HM Plant Honda by the culmination of the opening lap. Byrne, Haslam and Camier fought doggedly for third as Crutchlow took the lead with a classic manoeuvre at Lodge on lap 2.

Hard-Man Harris Falls Victim to Injury Again

Karl Harris battled against the odds to qualify his Rob Mac Racing Yamaha R1 in an impressive 6th place despite riding with three broken bones in his right foot. The Sheffield hard-man defied the odds by cutting his own plaster-cast off his foot to compete at Round three of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park, today (5th May). A gutsy performance throughout free practice and qualifying saw Karl overcome the pain to rack up another solid pre-race performance. Drama shrouded the beginning of Race one as rain began to fall on the warm-up lap. Harris joined the grid waving his arms in the air to alert the race officials of the pending danger. Despite his protests the race got underway, though was short-lived as a number of riders succumbed to the conditions at the first corner.

Gutsey Ride Rewarded With Second Row Start

Karl Harris will line up in the middle of the second row for the third round of the 2008 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park (Monday 5th May). The 27-year old Sheffield-based rider propelled his Rob Mac Racing Yamaha YZF-R1 into fifth position during the closing moments, only to be nudged back one spot by Leon Haslam in the dying seconds of the Swan Combi 50 - Roll for Pole qualifying session.

Confident Crutchlow Puts in Late Charge to Take Pole

Cal Crutchlow, fresh from the maiden race victory last time out, powered his HM Plant Honda onto pole start for the Holiday Monday third round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park, running half a second clear of the Airwaves Ducati rider, Shane Byrne, with whom he shares the lead in the title stakes.

The HM Plant Honda proved to be the man for all conditions in the Swan Combi 50 - Roll for Pole grid deciding session which had begun on a wet Cheshire circuit. Crutchlow set the early pace, maintaining the form that he had shown throughout the earlier free practice sessions.

Pacy Crutchlow Shows Consistency

Cal Crutchlow, who enjoyed maiden race winning glory in the previous round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship, carried that form and pace through free practice ahead of the Holiday Monday third round at Oulton Park. The HM Plant Honda rider put in a best lap of 1m 36.596secs, an average speed of 100.32mph, around the 2.692mile Cheshire circuit, heading off the determined challenge of his team-mate Leon Haslam by 0.151secs. Crutchlow, who jointly leads the early season title chase with Shane Byrne, was delighted with his continuing progress: “We’ve tried one or two things and have made a big positive step forward. There are still a few things to test but the bike is handling well.

Karl Fit For Battle

Karl Harris has made an excellent recovery from the horrific incident at Thruxton and is eager to start his contention for the 2008 British Superbike title as round 3 of the 2008 Bennetts British Superbike Championship reaches Oulton Park, Cheshire this weekend (3rd-5th May). Oulton Park is possibly the most picturesque circuit on the BSB calendar. Set in the stunning woodlands of Old Hall, each year it is the scene of some of the most exhilarating and closely fought battles on track. Voted the best UK circuit by British Superbike fans in 2007, this weekend will be the first of two visits that the British Superbike Championship makes to the Cheshire circuit this season.

Shane Byrne and Cal Crutchlow power into the Holiday Monday round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship on level terms but as they plan their tactics for riding the picturesque Oulton Park circuit they need to take check the form of both Michael Rutter and Karl Harris. Rutter excelled in the recent Thruxton round, bagging a pair of thirds on the North West 200 Ducati while Harris, still sporting the bruises from his heavy crash last time out, has a good record at the Cheshire circuit, recording his best ever Superbike result, second, there last July.

Harris Feels The Full Force Of Superbike Racing

Karl Harris fell victim to a horrific crash at the second round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship, at Thruxton, Hampshire today (April 20). The Rob Mac Racing Yamaha Superbike rider was hit by a flying Superbike after fellow competitor, Tom Sykes highsided at Seagrave. Karl was hit in the face by the 170 kilo Superbike travelling in excess of 120mph. Relatively unscathed, Karl escaped serious injury, suffering from cuts and bruises to his face, knees and ankle. The 27-year old Yorkshireman had proved his ability throughout the practice and qualifying sessions, having topped the time sheets twice in free practice.

Pirelli Race Report Bennetts BSB - Thruxton

Shane Byrne transferred pole position into race win to claim his fourth win at Thruxton Circuit on his return to Ducati (20th April). The move to a Pirelli control tyre for 2008 provided a frenetic and close-fought opening race of the season. With a level playing field in terms of rubber, it was left to individual teams to select a favourable compound around the fast and abrasive 2.356mile Hampshire circuit. In race two Cal Crutchlow looked to be in dominant form, making the early running in the search for his debut victory, as he led the field for the first 12 laps. However, the sheer grunt of the new Ducati 1098 proved too much for Crutchlow and Shane Byrne expertly bided his time before making his move for the lead on his Airwaves Ducati on the 13th lap. A rejuvenated Michael Rutter on the North West 200 Ducati, left his passing manoeuvre until lap 18 to claim third position ahead of Leon Haslam.

Shane Byrne and Cal Crutchlow were the race winners as the Bennetts British Superbike Championship began for real at Thruxton, and with them each taking a second place, they left the Hampshire circuit as the joint leaders of the series, ahead of the rejuvenated Michael Rutter who took a brace of third placings. Byrne, riding the Airwaves Ducati, had repeated the pole starting ride of the snow aborted Brands Hatch opening round, but he was out-started by Leon Haslam and Michael Rutter, before Cal Crutchlow swooped ahead to lead at the end of the opening lap.

Solid Progress for Harris

Karl Harris will line up at the head of the second row for round two of the 2008 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Thruxton tomorrow, 20 April. The Rob Mac Racing Yamaha Superbike rider had topped two of the three Free Practice sessions, and looked odds-on to record his second front-row start of the season. However, with the final throws of the dice, Karl was nudged off the front row for the first time this weekend. A solid 1:20.372s lap on his final circulation after the chequered flag was enough to solidify fifth position ahead of Leon Camier (Airwaves Ducati).

Crutchlow Fastest Ahead of Team-Mate Haslam

Cal Crutchlow underlined his determination to enjoy maiden race winning glory in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship by comfortably heading the free practice leaderboard at the wind-swept Thruxton in Hampshire. The HM Plant Honda rider had been on the pace throughout, upping the tempo in the afternoon session to send a warning to his rivals ahead of what will be opening race action in the country’s premier racing series.

Karl Harris makes the long trip south to Thruxton from his hometown of Sheffield for his first taste of race action onboard the Rob Mac Racing Yamaha YZF-R1, as the 2008 season attempts to finally get under way in more conducive weather conditions this weekend, 18-20 April. Despite brands Hatch being the first time that Karl had ridden the Yamaha competitively, the former triple British Supersport champion was instantly at ease with the 200bhp machine, setting a blistering pace that rewarded the team with its first front row British Superbike race start for 12 months.

CJ Riders Fund Ready for Thruxton

After the snow swept Brands Hatch, the CJ Riders Fund still had a very successful weekend at what was meant to be the opening round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship. Six inches of snow put a stop to the racing on Sunday, (6th April) and the meeting has now been rescheduled for May. The CJ Fund used the weekend to their advantage and had a practice run with their new CJ Unit, which worked perfectly and was situated in an ideal spot at Brands. The new CJ Promo Girls worked exceptionally hard throughout the weekend despite the freezing conditions, they still plugged away in their lycra suits collecting monies, look out for them at Thruxton!

Pirelli - Round 1 - Brands Hatch GP

The first round of the 2008 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch, Kent, was abandoned today (6th April), due to unseasonably heavy snowfall. As a result of extensive efforts on the part of series organiser MotorSport Vision Racing, the round has been rescheduled to take place over the weekend of 10/11 May. The grid positions for all classes will be as of final qualifying positions set on Saturday 5 April.

Front Row Start For Harris At Season Opener

Karl Harris will line up in third place on the Rob Mac Racing Yamaha for the opening round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch, Kent, on Sunday April 6. Changeable weather conditions dictated some frantic qualifying action from the start of the 50-minute session. Karl started the session in 4th place, and maintained a front row start for the duration.

Byrne Takes Pole For Opening Round

Shane Byrne underlined his credentials for a determined bid to regain the Bennetts British Superbike crown as he powered his Airwaves Ducati onto pole start for the opening round at Brands Hatch. The rider who began his racing career at the Kent circuit, taking a victory on that day, had been the dominant force throughout free practice and he carried that pace through to the grid deciding session, finally overcoming a determined challenge to his supremacy by HM Plant Honda rider Cal Crutchlow.
