Tyre Problem Slows Mika Kallio at Dutch 250cc GP
5 Days ago
Mika Kallio rode a courageous 250 cc GP at Assen on Saturday coming from behind to third place before all hopes of a podium faded when he experienced tyre troubles. In what has been a difficult weekend for the Finnish championship leader he made a dramatic recovery from the difficulties in setting up his Red Bull KTM 250 for the fast and challenging Assen circuit. He stormed to the front group of riders, holding fifth, fourth and even third place on the opening laps. But the tyre trouble intervened. He slipped back to finish in seventh place, which left him holding onto his world championship lead by one single point. Team-mate Hiroshi Aoyama, who had been even further back on the grid in thirteenth position, also worked his way up through the ranks to eventually finish in sixth place ahead of Kallio. Repsol KTM rider Julian Simon rode to a lonely tenth place.

Kallio 11th & Still Chasing Best Set-Up Ahead of Assen
28 June 2008
Red Bull KTM 250 star and world championship leader Mika Kallio found himself in an unusual eleventh spot in qualifying for the Dutch TT and is still chasing the best set-up for Saturday's GP. The 25-year-old Finn, winner of the British Grand Prix one week ago, found the set-up requirements of the Assen circuit with its high grip level and its banked corners completely different to the English Donington Park raceway. Kallio kept comparing two chassis versions and numerous set-up solutions, but also lost valuable track-time due to the changing weather conditions. He will try further modifications in the warm-up practice session Saturday morning.

Double Victory for Mika Kallio & Hiroshi Aoyama

Red Bull KTM 250 stars Mika Kallio and Hiroshi Aoyama mastered treacherous conditions in today's wet Grand Prix of China to score a fantastic double victory for KTM. It was the second one-two for the Austrian manufacturer in the 250 cc category after Aoyama won the German Grand Prix last year ahead of his team-mate. Pole-sitter Alvaro Bautista had established an early lead, but when the young Spaniard crashed out on the ninth lap of the race, Kallio had a clear track ahead and rode to a comfortable win despite increasing grip problems on the drying tarmac.

Dutch TT - Honda Men Hit Form as Season Reaches Halfway
30 June 2007
After such a spirited performance in last weekend's British Grand Prix, both Repsol Honda riders are ready to make sure they build on the speed shown at Donington Park and the pair approach Assen buoyed by those recent rides. Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda RC212V) finished eighth and Nicky Hayden (Repsol Honda RC212V) crashed, pitted and rejoined for a finish at Donington. Dani led in the wet conditions before his tyre choice proved incorrect and Nicky was fighting at the front before he fell. Strange as it may sound, it was an encouraging weekend because these riders were getting back to their best after a difficult start to the season.

The 21-year-old Spanish phenomenon won here last year from Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) and after his gritty ride to third two weeks ago in Catlunya - only just out of touch of Casey Stoner (Ducati) and Rossi at the flag, he is showing all the signs of getting his title challenge back underway.
