The Lakeside Hammers started a busy week, which sees them race in three important Sky Sports Elite League matches, with a superb win away at Coventry on Monday evening. Despite being without their Australian captain, Adam Shields, they roared to a memorable victory over the current Sky Sports Elite League champions. The Hammers boss, Stuart Douglas, feels much of the credit for the team's strong start to the season should go to the rider’s collective spirit.
The Lakeside Hammers will now be using Jonas Davidsson alongside Adam Shields in Saturday’s Elite League Best Pairs meeting at King’s Lynn as Jonsson is struggling with a hand injury. Davidsson has been selected ahead of Joonas Kylmakorpi based on their current form.
A resounding victory against the Peterborough Panthers on Friday evening was the reward of some extraordinary work by the Lakeside track staff to get this Craven Shield fixture on. The match saw the Hammers side dominate proceedings from the very first heat. The initial staging of that race was stopped on the second lap when the Panthers No.2 Zdenek Simota took a tumble on the exit to the second bend. At the time of his fall the Hammers pairing of Andreas Jonsson and Leigh Lanham were on their way to a maximum 5-1 heat advantage over Peterborough’s Danish Grand Prix star, Hans Andersen.
