Following five years as part of the BSB calendar and following careful consideration, Mondello Park has decided not to take up its option to run a round of the British Superbike Championship in 2008. With the BSB teams looking to reduce the number of races for budgetary reasons, and the fact that it costs Mondello considerably more to host a round than any of the British circuits, the County Kildare venue has decided not to take up its place on the 2008 calendar. The decision comes despite an offer from the MCRCB to allow the Irish round to run over two days, rather than the normal three day event, which would have resulted in reduced costs for the teams, but not for the circuit.
Rain stopped play at the fifth round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Mondello Park after torrential rain flooded the Irish circuit. The rain thrashed the 2.176 mile long track and built up throughout the morning and early afternoon with several inches of standing water on the circuit. Despite the best efforts of the marshalls and staff, the decision was finally taken to cancel races.
