Rossi Wins Laguna Seca Epic

Fiat Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi has today scored a magnificent victory at the Laguna Seca Raceway after an epic 32-lap US Grand Prix which saw Ducati’s Casey Stoner and Rizla Suzuki’s Chris Vermeulen complete an all-Bridgestone podium for the second race in succession. Rossi and Stoner were involved in a tight tussle at the front for much of the race, building up a massive 22 second gap to third-placed Vermeulen in a thrilling encounter. Stoner endured an off-track excursion on lap 24, but recovered his bike to rejoin the race still in second position with a comfortable cushion to Vermeulen.

Hacker Gets the Job Done at Laguna

Kawasaki's substitute MotoGP rider, Jamie Hacking, brought his borrowed Ninja ZX-RR home in an impressive eleventh place on his premier class debut at Laguna Seca this afternoon. The 37-year-old AMA Superbike star, deputising this weekend for injured compatriot John Hopkins, started today's 33-lap USGP from the last row of the grid, but was quick to make up places in the early stages of the race.

Positive Toseland Equals His Best

James Toseland’s smile matched the sunshine as he equalled his best ever MotoGP qualifying performance at the Red Bull US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca. The 27 year old Yorkshireman was fifth fastest and will start from the second row of the grid riding the Tech 3 Yamaha. “With the right package I’m capable of a good race tomorrow, “ explained Toseland, who last raced at Laguna four years ago.” It’s been frustrating in free practice but it gave me the chance to re-learn the track and check out the lines. I’ve worked closely with the team to sort out the problems and the result our best qualifying since that opening round in Qatar.”

Tough Start to Laguna Weekend for Kawasaki

The Kawasaki Racing Team endured a difficult opening day at Laguna Seca, but Jamie Hacking and Anthony West remain confident of significant improvements tomorrow, once their respective crews have found a solution to the front-end problems that plagued both riders during today's two practice sessions. The technical and twisty Laguna Seca circuit demands that a rider has the utmost confidence in front-end grip, and both Kawasaki riders struggled today to find a set-up that provided the required level of feedback from the front tyre.

Bridgestone Riders Make Solid Start at Laguna Seca

Ducati’s Casey Stoner continued his recent impressive form in today’s opening free practice sessions at the Laguna Seca raceway, lapping under his pole position time from last year by almost half-a-second using Bridgestone race tyres this afternoon. Stoner, winner of the last three races, was quickest in both of today’s sessions by a notable margin, and led a quintet of Bridgestone-shod riders in the morning practice hour. In the afternoon, with track temperatures considerably higher, he set his quickest lap of the day on his final tour of the 3.610km Laguna Seca track.

West & Hacking Ready For Laguna Showdown

The US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca will mark the MotoGP debut of AMA Superbike contender Jamie Hacking, who will deputise for the injured John Hopkins aboard Kawasaki's Ninja ZX-RR this weekend. Hacking, who received the call-up to MotoGP during his 37th birthday celebrations two weeks ago, has already impressed aboard the Ninja ZX-RR during a two-day, pre-race test at the Autopolis circuit in Japan, where he broke the lap record. The three-time AMA champion arrives in Laguna determined to match, or even exceed, the performance of his Kawasaki teammate, Roger Lee Hayden, who finished tenth as a wild card rider in this race twelve months ago.

2008 AMA SBK Parts Unlimited & Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix

The AMA Superbike Championship presented by Parts Unlimited will contest the first of two rounds to be held this season at the famed Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca circuit in Monterey, Calif. The July stop has also become an annual meeting with the superstars of the MotoGP World Championship, widely considered the pinnacle of global motorcycle road racing. The MotoGP field boasts some of the AMA Superbike Championship's most decorated graduates, led by 2006 World Champion Nicky Hayden, a former AMA Superbike and Supersport champ. Hayden won the U.S. Grand Prix in 2005 and 2006. 1992 AMA 250GP champion Colin Edwards is another top MotoGP competitor with an AMA Superbike pedigree. The Texan has been performing impressively this season, regularly finishing in the top five and occasionally landing on the podium. Unfortunately, former AMA Formula Xtreme and Superstock king John Hopkins will be unable to compete in front of his home fans at Laguna Seca, ruled out by injury.

Toseland Seeks The Sun & Change of Fortune

British MotoGP star James Toseland returns to one of his favourite circuits looking for a change of fortune and some Californian sunshine at the weekend. The 27 year old Yorkshireman last raced at Laguna Seca in 2004 when he was involved in a tremendous battle for the lead with another MotoGP star Australian Chris Vermeulen in the World Superbike Championship. It’s been a tough last three races for Toseland who finished 11th in the German rain after a wrong tyre choice but he still lies ninth in his debut MotoGP season riding the Tech 3 Yamaha. A good result on Sunday in the 32 lap race to consolidate or even improve that position is his aim before enjoying the long awaited summer break.

Jamie Hacking To Make MotoGP Debut At Laguna

AMA Superbike star, Jamie Hacking, will make his MotoGP debut in this year's USGP at Laguna Seca, after being drafted into the Kawasaki Racing Team as a temporary replacement for the injured John Hopkins. A three-time AMA champion, Hacking has racked up six podium finishes already in this year's ultra-competitive AMA Superbike championship, making him the ideal choice to stand in for Hopkins while the Anglo-American recovers from the injuries sustained in a high-speed qualifying crash ahead of the Dutch TT at Assen.

Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing's Ben Spies celebrated the end of an excellent AMA Superbike double-header weekend at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah on Sunday with a double victory for the GSX-R1000. The defending AMA Superbike Champion won Sunday's 14-lap race, after having already won Saturday's race - and capturing pole position for the weekend.

About the only sure thing in the Pro Honda Oils Supersport Championship presented by Shoei is that this year’s champion will likely have a last name that begins with the letter H. Road Atlanta will host the penultimate rounds of the Supersport series this Sunday, Sept. 2. Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Roger Hayden and Jamie Hacking lead the series, with the youngest of the racing Hayden brothers holding an 11-point margin over the defending champ Hacking. A victory in the most recent round at Virginia International Raceway by Erion Honda’s Josh Hayes has moved him back into contention for the title as well. Hayes is just seven points behind Hacking in third.

It was 20 years ago that the AMA Supersport Championship kicked off at Daytona International Speedway. Doug Polen won the inaugural race and went on to win the title. Hacking, matched Polen last year as the only other rider in history to win both the AMA Supersport and AMA Superstock titles in the same year.

Jamie Hacking’s amazing 2006 season got even better on Sunday at Road Atlanta when he clinched the 2006 Repsol Lubricants Superstock Series championship with his sixth victory of the year. The title gave Hacking, the 35-year-old veteran racer who lives in Denver, N. C., the honor of being only the second rider in history to win both the Repsol Superstock and Pro Honda Oils Supersport presented by Shoei titles in a single season.

British Yamaha Rider Takes USA Titles Early!

Yamaha rider Jamie Hacking recently wrapped up both the US AMA Supersport and Superstock titles on his YZF-R6 and YZF-R1 respectively, with one round left to go. Hacking led home a Yamaha 1-2-3 in the Superstock race to win the title at Road Atlanta with a race remaining at Mid-Ohio.
