In a day characterised by the fickle British weather, both MSS Discovery Kawasaki riders left the 1.4mile Mallory circuit in Leicestershire with much to think about. For Billy it was a magnificent and well deserved sixth place in race one; while James Haydon reflects on just how competitive and unforgiving the 2008 British Superbike Championship is. After a good start to race one, McConnell was the unwitting participant in a first corner crash which saw Leon Camier tangle with the rear of his Ninja ZX-10R and, ultimately, crash.

MSS Discovery Kawasaki is pleased to announce that James Haydon will be deputising for the injured Stuart Easton at the Mallory Park round of the British Superbike Championship. A former Grand Prix, World and British Superbike rider, Haydon has recently been seen in the pit lane at UK Superbike events in his other role as television commentator. The Andorra based thirty-four year old sees his outing on the MSS Discovery Ninja ZX-10R as a welcome chance to show that his skill, determination and race craft are still at Championship level.

A healthy mix of experience and young-guns hungry for success feature in the 31 strong rider line-up confirmed for this year’s Bennetts British Superbike Championship. The HM Plant Honda team, who have powered the champion in each of the past two seasons have Leon Haslam taking over the top ride and he is joined by 2006 British Supersport champion Cal Crutchlow.

The Hawk Colchester Kawasaki Team ended the 2007 British Superbike season on a positive note at the final round of the Championship at Brands Hatch. In front of a huge 40,000 strong crowd the two Superbike riders James Haydon and Scott Smart gained a ninth and 12th place respectively in the second Superbike race. Haydon suffered a puncture in race one with Smart finishing in a healthy 11th place.

Hot-shot Sykes Takes Maiden Pole At Record Speed

Tom Sykes upstaged the title chasers in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship as he clipped a third of a second off the Donington Park lap record to claim his first ever pole start in the elite series. The Stobart Vent Axia Motorsport Honda rider lapped the 2.5 mile Leicestershire grand prix circuit in 1m 30.901secs, an average speed of 99.00mph to head off the threat of local rider and four times series runner-up Chris Walker riding the Rizla Suzuki.

Haslam Tops Free Practice As Title Rivals Run Off Pace

Leon Haslam has a strong pedigree at his local Donington Park circuit and the Airwaves Ducati rider used that to the full in the blustery conditions during free practice for the penultimate round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship. The Derbyshire rider is the outside bet for the crown, starting the action here a massive 75 points down on series leader Ryuichi Kiyonari who is planning a double raceday celebration. The Japanese rider turns 25 years of age and he knows that a winning double would ensure retention of the crown.

Motorcycle Academy has attracted thousands of fans who have benefited from exciting activities and important safety messages. On the circuit, the established stars have been battling it out with a horde of young riders with four rookies in the top factory teams providing a strong challenge to the established order. Similarly, the Academy has seen regular appearances from both veteran BSB Champions and these new young riders, with racers dedicating their valuable time to taking part on the THINK! unit.

Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha and James Haydon are to part company after a mutual and amicable decision was reached between Team Principal Rob McElnea and James Haydon. James has missed the last two rounds of the 2007 Bennetts British Superbike Championship due to a training injury. Although now fit to ride again both Rob and James have decided that he will not be resuming his ride with the team. The relationship between James and Virgin Yamaha Racing stretches back to 2001. Since then, James has had three spells with the team recording over 15 podium finishes, culminating in an impressive race win at Knockhill in 2004.

Renowned for being technically demanding, the picturesque 2.692mile circuit is famous for providing some thrilling race action.James Haydon will not be racing due to a shoulder injury sustained during a mountain bike crash this week. His untimely injury will definitely see him miss Oulton Park and looks set to keep him on the sidelines for round five at Snetterton. Team-mate Tommy Hill will be temporarily joined by Raceways Yamaha Superstock rider Hudson Kennaugh for the weekend onboard the Pirelli-shod Yamaha YZF-R1's in the Superbike class.

Haydon Injured In Mountain Bike Crash

In a cruel twist of fate, James Haydon has suffered a shoulder injury while out training on his mountain bike. James was undertaking his usual training regime in preparation for round four of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park over the May Bank Holiday weekend. An initial examination revealed ligament damage to his left shoulder. Doctors have advised that he takes time out to rest in order to minimise the recovery period.

The Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha British Superbike team continued to score some valuable points at Silverstone Circuit, Northamptonshire, today 29 April. 22-year old Tommy Hill had been consistently in the top four throughout the free practice sessions. A red flag in final qualifying forced his pole pace lap to be abandoned and he was unable to improve on his position on the third row of the grid. Despite a bad start in Race One, Tommy managed to claw his way back up to 8th place. Race Two saw the same result after he struggled to improve, and a red flag brought the race to an abrupt end just after two-thirds distance.

Billy McConnell emphatically romped to his, and Virgin Media Yamaha's, first British Supersport pole position at round three of the British Supersport Championship today, 28 April, at Silverstone International circuit. With fourteen minutes left on the clock, Billy slotted in a Pirelli rear qualifier to his Yamaha YZF-R6, and instantly posted a superb time of 1:28.219. Despite a late surge from Dennis Hobbs and Martin Jessopp, Billy's time held firm to land pole for Sunday's race by almost half a second.

Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha heads south to the historic circuit of Thruxton in Hampshire this weekend, 13 - 15 April, for round two of the 2007 Bennetts British Superbike Championship. Thruxton was originally built in 1940 as a World War II airfield for Allied troops heading to France for the D-Day landings. Decommissioned in 1946, it opened its doors to motorcycle racing in 1950, and has since provided some of the fastest and closest-fought encounters on two wheels in recent years.

Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha faced a tough weekend at Brands Hatch this Easter weekend during the opening round of the 2007 Bennetts British Superbike Championship. Tommy Hill and James Haydon struggled in both races around the 2.3-mile GP circuit onboard their Pirelli-shod Yamaha YZF-R1's. Race one proved to be the highlight for the team's senior riders, as Tommy crossed the line in ninth place, picking up seven points in the process. A technical problem for Tommy in the opening laps of the second race left James the sole representative for the remainder of the race. However, even as the field closed up behind the pace car after a crash at Druids on lap 15, James found it hard to capitalise over the closing laps as his machine started to overheat.

Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha completed its test schedule today (30 March) at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire. The realistic test programme based at UK circuits has proved a resounding success for the team. Although a cold overcast day, the track remained dry allowing a full day’s testing with valuable results for both the British Superbike riders, Tommy Hill and James Haydon, along with British Supersport riders Billy McConnell and Tom Grant.

For the first time in the pre-season schedule, the full compliment of Virgin Mobile Yamaha Racing riders took to the Leicestershire circuit today, 9 March, to put new machinery through exhaustive tests. Although Virgin Mobile Yamaha had completed a shakedown test at Croft two weeks previously, James Haydon had been called away on the eve of the test to attend the birth of his daughter. For James, today was the first opportunity to familiarise himself with the 2007 Yamaha YZF-R1.

The shakedown test was designed to familiarise the team with the new machines ahead of the planned test programme to include the official test at Snetterton at the end of March.

Haydon, 32, is relishing the opportunity to reacquaint himself with the Virgin Mobile Yamaha team, and reignite a winning relationship, most recently at Knockhill when he last rode for the team in 2004. This victory capped off a remarkable year for Haydon and Yamaha, as Haydon finished in 8th position after joining the championship at the mid-point of the season.
