NEC International Motorcycle Show Opens with Action Packed Day

A star studded display of new bikes, top riders and important racing announcements kicked off The Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter Show for its 20th visit to the Birmingham NEC. World Superbike star Ruben Xaus dropped in to unveil the awesome new BMW S1000 RR Superbike project, while manufacturers Yamaha and Kawasaki launched new racing teams in British and World Superbikes respectively. Other major marques Suzuki, Ducati and Honda uncovered radical new 2009 machines, whilst Harley-Davidson and KTM announced new, one-make race championships. Celebrity round-the-world explorer Charley Boorman made his own debut by testing out one of his most radical forms of transport to date, the Batman Batpod.

Major Announcement Expected on TT Day at NEC Bike Show

The Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter Show will host top riders, the Getty Images Exhibition and a major announcement on TT Day which is held on Saturday 6th December at the Birmingham NEC. The Isle of Man government are again sending a delegation from their Department of Tourism and Leisure to promote next year’s TT but with some exciting additions! The Show will see a special appearance of the Getty Images Exhibition, curated by Murray Walker, an amazing photography collection celebrating 100 years of road racing on the Island, which will be free to view during the duration of the show from 28th November- 7th December. The TT Marshals Association will also be represented on the stand throughout the duration as they look to promote the chance to marshal at the TT and Manx Grand Prix.

Isle of Man TT Races to Feature in Prestigious ‘Cult Locations’ Book

Department of Tourism and Leisure Head for The Carole Nash NEC Bike Show 2008 to Promote Isle of Man Motorsport

The Department of Tourism and Leisure is heading to The Carole Nash NEC Bike Show 2008 in Birmingham in November and December to promote The Isle of Man to Motorsport fans. The DTL will be in the main hall and will be sharing a stand with Duke Marketing. The TT Marshals Association will also be represented on the stand throughout the duration as they look to promote the chance to marshal at the TT and Manx Grand Prix.

Leading British Superstock Rider Steve Mercer to Make TT Debut

Leading British Superstock Championship rider Steve Mercer will make his debut at the Isle of Man TT Races in 2009. The 27-year old is a well established rider in the British Championship paddock and having dominated the 2006 MRO Superstock Championship, he moved into the British Championship proper in 2007. With a career best of 6th at Snetterton, the Maidstone rider ended his debut year in a fine 16th overall.

HM Plant Honda Announces 2009 Road Racing Team

HM Plant Honda is pleased to announce its 2009 team line-up for the North West 200 and Isle of Man TT road races, consisting of four seasoned campaigners to include 14-times TT winner John McGuinness, six-times North West 200 winner Steve Plater and five-times Sidecar TT winner Nick Crowe, with passenger Mark Cox. 2009 marks Honda’s 50th anniversary of participation in motorcycle racing – beginning with the 1959 Isle of Man TT races. Since then, globally, Honda has endeavoured to win in every racing category it has entered. With pure road-racing and the Isle of Man TT races being so close to heart, 2009 sees one of Honda’s strongest ever rider line-ups for the road, as the marque attempts to celebrate its Golden Road-Racing Anniversary in style with yet more wins.

TT riders head to Japan as ambassadors for the Isle of Man TT Races

TT legends John McGuinness, Ian Lougher and Richard ‘Milky’ Quayle are to visit Miyakejima Island, one of the Island’s off Tokyo, in October in a visit facilitated by the Isle of Man Government’s Department of Tourism and Leisure. Miyakejima Island is looking into creating its own equivalent of the Isle of Man TT races to boost local tourism and the economy following significant earthquakes in 1983 and 2000.

Department of Tourism and Leisure Confirm 2009 TT Programme

After what was described by MCN as the ‘best TT ever’ and comparisons being made with the epic Senior Race between Steve Hislop and Carl Fogarty in 1992, the Department of Tourism and Leisure has confirmed that the 2009 TT Programme will run to the same format as in 2008. Fans at the 2008 TT were treated to some of the closest racing in history culminating in the sensational Dainese Senior TT where the lead swapped eight times between Bruce Anstey, Cameron Donald and eventual race winner John McGuinness. Meanwhile, Sidecar aficionados are still talking about the wheel to wheel dual between three wheel legends Dave Molyneux and Nick Crowe.

Ivan Lintin Takes Podium at Manx GP

Bardney racer Ivan Lintin bagged a second place finish in the Manx GP Newcomers race on his very first visit to the Isle of Man races; he also completed the Junior Manx GP in 13th place and the Lightweight event in sixth position.

Triumph & DTL Drive to Broaden Appeal of the TT

Leading Motorcycle manufacturer Triumph has chosen the Isle of Man ahead of top European locations for the prestigious launch of its new Street Triple R bike, the launch, which will take place in early September, will see over 50 national and bike journalists from all over the world visiting the Island. Countries represented include the USA, Japan and all leading European markets. The organisers expect a media value of over £1,000,000 from the activity.

TT Race Sales Raise Funds for Charity

Relentless, the energy drink is please to announce that the profit generated by sales during the Isle of Mann TT will be donated to the Joey Dunlop foundation. The foundation set up in memory of Joey Dunlop, was originally started to raise funds that would enable the installation of a lift in the TT grandstand, making access possible to the main viewing gallery for the disabled. Once this was achieved the foundation continued to receive donations; enabling a second undertaking - to provide much needed accommodation for the physically challenged and their families.

James Whitham - What a Good Do!

In a story which resonates with that of Lance Armstrong, popular British motorcycle racer, James Whitham, relates a life of crashes, success and battling against lymphatic cancer. Assisted by experienced motorcycle photojournalist, Mac McDiarmid, Whitham tells his story frankly, candidly and with humour. His racing career lasted 18 years, during which time he secured four British titles and competed in World Superbike, World Supersport, Endurance and Grand Prix. A hard-charging racer and a colourful character off the bikes, Whitham was one of the most well liked riders of his generation among fans and fellow competitors.

Friends Reunited at Goodwood Festival of Speed

At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Rizla Suzuki Team Manager Jack Valentine was reunited with David Jeffries 1999 TT winning Yamaha that made history after breaking Honda's 17 year winning domination of the TT Formula one race. Jack had not seen the machine since 2001 when he sold to its current owner following a disastrous season due the cancellation of the TT because of the Foot and Mouth epidemic. This was the first time the actual machine certified by the team as the race winner had been exhibited in the UK, since being sold. Many replicas of this machine that exist have been since masqueraded as the TT winner at numerous shows and exhibitions.

Full TT Podium Finish for LeoVince Exhausts!

LeoVince made it 1st,2nd & 3rd in the superbike category at this years TT. Cameron Donald won on his Relentless-TAS-Suzuki, with teammate Bruce Anstey 2nd, followed by Adrian Archibald on his AMA-Racing Suzuki in 3rd place. The Suzuki GSX-R1000's of all three riders are equipped with LeoVince's complete SBK-CORSA 4-2-1-2 titanium exhaust systems. These state-of-the-art systems have been developed by LeoVince with help of the TAS team. LeoVince were one of the first exhaust manufacturers to develop a system for the latest GSXR1000 - and to be in front of their competitors a bike was shipped over from Japan. Keith Amor running his LeoVince equipped '08 Honda CBR1000RR came 7th place.

IOM TT Success for K-Tech Suspension

Cameron Donald took his first ever TT win, with victory in the action packed Dainese Superbike race. Riding the Relentless by TAS Suzuki, the Australian took advantage of the misfortunes of Guy Martin and John McGuinness to seize control at two thirds race distance and he came home just over ten seconds clear of team-mate Bruce Anstey, to make it a tremendous day for Hector and Philip Neill's team. A perfect day for Suzuki was completed with Adrian Archibald finishing in third.

The bwin.com British Grand Prix at Donington Park on June 20th -22nd is the eighth round of the 18 round MotoGP World Championship that visits 14 countries and four continents between March and October. The average attendance for a three day grand prix weekend in 2007 was 129,050. Last year 132,435 fans attended the British Grand Prix at Donington with a race day crowd of 84,785. The British round of the World Championship was staged at the TT races on the Isle of Man until 1976. Donington Park has staged the British Grand Prix since 1987. A total of 3,569 hours was broadcast from the 18 grands prix in 2007. A total of 207 countries were reached by MotoGP broadcasts and the live TV signal was received by 184 countries. A staggering 337 million homes were reached by cable, satellite and TV networks.
