Kevin Strijbos' MX1 Return Put On Hold

Grand Prix Kawasaki Racing’s Kevin Strijbos, who was due to return to MX1 World Championship action this weekend at St Jean D’Angely in France, will miss more of the season than originally expected due to ongoing problems with the thumb injury he picked up in Spain back in April.

Lorenzo Undergoes Successful Skin Graft

Fiat Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo will leave hospital within the next 24 hours after undergoing successful surgery on his injured right hand and further neurological checks in Barcelona today. The 21-year-old has undergone a skin graft on the fourth and fifth fingers of his right hand. Renowned hand specialist Dr Xavier Mir carried out the operation in the Dexeus Institute, using skin from Lorenzo's right wrist. A final CAT scan also confirmed that the MotoGP rookie has fully recovered from concussion, although he still cannot entirely recall the moments immediately before the accident in the second free practice session of the Grand Prix of Catalunya last Friday.

Jorge Lorenzo On The Mend After Another Day's Rest

Two days after the accident that forced him to miss today’s Catalan Grand Prix at Montmelo, Jorge Lorenzo’s recovery is progressing well at the Institut Dexues in Barcelona. The 21-year-old sustained head trauma and damage to his right hand in Friday’s crash but is improving, although Dr. Xavier Mir confirmed tonight that he will need a small skin graft to replace the skin he has lost on his hand.

Cruel Injury Blow for Brown & Team Appleyard/Macadam

Deane Brown, one of Britain’s brightest racing talents, left the Brands Hatch round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship in an ambulance yesterday as a badly broken right leg effectively ended his season. He will undergo an operation today to remove an existing plate and have a rod inserted which will mean he will be out of action for at least two or three months. The 15 year old has been in scintillating form this year on his Team Appleyard/Macadam 125 KR Seel machine in the Relentless 125GP British Championship taking pole at the last round at Oulton Park and also in the Red Bull Moto GP Rookies Cup where he currently lies in 4th position in the standings.

Michael Hill On The Mend Following Snetterton Smash

Taboo Motorsport's Michael Hill has started the lengthy recovery process following a horrific smash at Snetterton where he sustained two broken vertebrae. Hill had started the British 125GP from 23rd on the grid after a difficult time in qualifying but his usual aggressive start to the race had seen him progresse to thirteenth place. Howevere, it all went astray on the last corner of the last lap when a fallen rider was assisted back onto the track on the racing line in front of Hill. There was little that he could do to avoid the crash and ended up rear ending the other rider who was hardly moving.

Olivier Jacque Forced To Withdraw From Home GP

Olivier Jacque will not race in his home Grand Prix at Le Mans, after complications with the arm injury sustained in a free practice crash ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix forced the Kawasaki pilot to withdraw from the event today. Jacque suffered a major puncture wound in the crash, which caused a severe laceration and muscle damage to his right forearm. The 33-year-old Frenchman was initially treated at the circuit medical centre, before being airlifted to Shanghai's Huashan hospital for surgery to clean and close the wound.

Olivier Jacque underwent an operation at Shanghai's Huashan hospital this afternoon to repair the damage to his right forearm, sustained in a crash during the second free practice session at the Shanghai International circuit today. During the course of the operation doctors from the Clinica Mobile made the decision to close fully the wound, after ascertaining that no skin grafts were necessary. As a result, Jacque's chances of racing at Le Mans have improved significantly, but the 33-year-old Frenchman faces an uncertain two weeks as he waits to see if the injury will recover sufficiently to allow him to take his place on the starting grid at his home race. Jacque will return to Barcelona tomorrow afternoon, where he will consult with his own doctors in a bid to accelerate the rehabilitation of his injury.

State-Of-The-Art Treatment For Isidre Esteve Pujol

KTM rally rider Isidre Esteve Pujul of Spain has undergone surgery to insert a special electronic device to try to encourage nerve regeneration on his severe spinal injury, sustained during a recent high speed racing crash. The 34-year old Spaniard was competing in the Spanish all-terrain championships when the crash occurred, injuring the 7th and 8th vertebrae. He has already undergone one surgery to stabilize the injured spine in the spinal unit at Vali d’Hebron hospital in Barcelona. He is presently paralyzed from the waist down.

Bayliss Returns Home To Monte Carlo After Operation

Ducati Xerox Team rider Troy Bayliss has returned to his Monte Carlo home following an operation on his injured hand on Sunday afternoon in the UK. The Australian had a weekend of ups and downs at Donington Park. First on Friday he celebrated his 38th birthday, on Saturday he set pole position and then he high-sided out at Coppice on lap 6 of the first race on Sunday. He was taken to the Clinica Mobile in the circuit, but doctors decided to send him to the nearby Derbyshire Royal Infirmary for immediate surgery. The operation consisted of the removal of the top two bones (intermediate and distal phalanges) of the little finger of his right hand. During the crash Troy had also received a powerful blow in the groin region and due to concerns, specialists at the Derby hospital also carried out checks in that area before giving him the OK to leave.

KTM factory team rally rider Isidre Esteve Pujol of Spain has suffered severe injuries from a high speed crash while competing in the Spanish All Terrain Rally. Spanish doctors have confirmed that the 34-year-old Dakar Rally competitor has severe injuries to the seventh vertebrae and a number of broken ribs, one of which punctured a lung. Initially the rider’s injuries were life threatening but he is now out of danger and able to speak, according to Pit Beirer, KTM Offroad Racing Director.

Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra rider Yukio Kagayama will miss tomorrow’s races at Phillip Island due to doctor’s orders. Yesterday, Yukio crashed in timed qualifying and was taken to The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne with suspected fractures of his left collarbone and three or four ribs and possible damage to his spleen.

The first day of qualifying for the second round of the Superbike World Championship at Phillip Island was a dramatic one for Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra. Joint series leader Max Biaggi finished with the sixth fastest time of the day, just ahead of team mate Yukio. But Yukio had a heavy crash in the afternoon session is unlikely to take any further part in proceedings. At first, it was suspected that Yukio had broken his left collarbone, a few ribs and damaged his spleen in the process but after he was helicoptered to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne there was some doubt about the extent of his injuries, so the medics there decided to carry out further tests. All hopes are that the injuries are not as bad as originally thought.

Coming back in Europe this week after his injury contracted in Ahaheim last week-end, during the third race of his winter program, Christophe Pourcel will have to rest a few weeks at home. Just after his arrival in Marseille, Christophe moved to Aix en Provence and met Olivier Dufour, the famous ostheopath who take care of numerous French sportsmen. Christophe had another examination to clarify the situation. “Chris had a radio and then a scanner in Aix. Both confirmed that his right tibia was not broken, but damaged in his lower part with a crack in the bone. Fortunately the bone didn’t move and the ligaments are not damaged,” explained his father Roger. “Doctor Dufour put a splint that he will keep for a few weeks, and of course Christophe can’t train and must stay quiet. May be he will be able to go swimming later. Olivier told him that he will have to rest for six weeks, and of course he will check carefully the injury,” said the father of the MX2 World Champion.

Dan Willenborg, the cornerworker who was injured Sunday afternoon at the AMA Supermoto Championship finale, was released from the hospital Tuesday morning. A first-turn crash involving competitors Troy Herfoss and Alex Thiebault in the AMA Supermoto Unlimited race at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, Calif., caused Herfoss’ bike to collide with Willenborg who was working as a flagger.

Sete Gibernau Forced To Miss Valencia

The small operation the Spanish rider underwent yesterday went according to plan but Gibernau will not be able to take part in the final race of the season. In last Sunday's crash at the Grande Premio de Portugal, Ducati Marlboro Team rider Sete Gibernau fractured the fifth metacarpal bone in his right hand and again damaged the collarbone he had already fractured in June.

The Ducati MotoGP team's Spanish rider Sete Gibernau is to undergo further special medical treatment in an attempt to recover from his injuries as soon as possible. Following first medical checks on Gibernau yesterday in the Clinica Mobile as a result of his crash during the Estoril race, the Spanish rider left Portugal to undergo a further medical visit. This visit confirmed the fracture of the fifth metacarpal bone in his right hand and damage to one of the plates previously inserted in his left collarbone.
