PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse rider Alessandro Colatosti made good progress during his second Superstock 1000 race, and improved on his practice lap times around the tricky Imola circuit. He picked up places throughout and ended his Imola weekend 26th.

Foret And Riba Next Year In WSS For Kawasaki

The next to last event of the 2006 Championship did not respond to the Team Gil Motor Sport Kawasaki’s expectancies, but good news is that two riders for the next season have been declared officially. Fabien Foret, the World champion in this category in 2002, and Pere Riba, the Spanish rider, who has been a Kawasaki development rider for three years now, will stand up for the colours of the Luxembourg team. No good news on the track though: Stephane Chambon is ranked the 16th, while Maxime Berger gives up.

Nieto And Laconi Re-sign For PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse In 2007

After scoring points in each of the two 21-lap Imola races, two of the current PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse riders, Fonsi Nieto and Regis Laconi, were confirmed as the team's riding duo once more for the 2007 season.

Win For Roberts At Imola

21-year-old Brendan Roberts gained his first European Superstock victory at the weekend at Imola Circuit, Italy. The young Australian looked strong and confident all weekend on-board the HP Racing Suzuki. Qualifying in third position amongst a field full of Italian riders, bikes and teams the youngster once again proved that he was capable of mixing it at the top with the best.

Since Friday morning the paddock of Imola was full of people, ready to enjoy the races and walk in a paddock under the sun. The racetrack has benn changed from last year, so the times made in this great weekend cannot be compared to the previous ones, even if riders could be faster than expected looking at the other races and the great 1’48.804 of Troy’s Superpole lap.

Yamaha's Corti Moves Up To Second At Imola

Yamaha Team Italia rider Claudio Corti moved up to second place in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup after a dramatic race in Imola. The 19-year-old from Como finished the race fourth but was moved up to third following the exclusion of race winner Luca Scassa (MV Agusta) for a technical infringement.

Podium Placing Keeps Curtain On Title Track

Yamaha Motor Germany rider Kevin Curtain will go in to next weekend's final world supersport round with an 18-point advantage after finishing third at Imola today. The race was won by championship rival Sebastien Charpentier (Honda), who needed to beat the Yamaha man to keep his title defence alive, but Curtain's sensible ride to his ninth podium of the season keeps him in the driving seat for next weekend's race in Magny Cours.

Polished Performance Moves Yamaha's Pitt Up To Fourth

Andrew Pitt continued his rich vein of form at Imola today, scoring a podium finish in the day's opening race to move up to fourth in the championship ahead of next weekend's final round of the season. The Yamaha Motor Italia rider backed up his hard fought third place in race one with a tremendous fourth around the demanding Imola circuit in race two. Meanwhile team-mate Noriyuki Haga fought set-up problems to post a fourth and sixth place finish, keeping his hopes of finishing second in this year's championship well and truly alive.

Disappointment For Alstare Engineering Max!

It was a disappointing Imola for Team Alstare Engineering Corona Extra rider Max Neukirchner, who left the Italian circuit with no points after two DNFs. A crash on the opening lap of race one, which resulted in his bike taking out Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra’s Yukio Kagayama, was followed by a tumble after twelve laps of race two.

Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) Takes The 2006 World Superbike Title At Imola

Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) won the World Superbike Championship for the second time today at Imola. In the penultimate round of the series, held at the Autodromo Enzo & Dino Ferrari in front of 86,000 spectators, the 37 year-old Australian, WSBK champion back in 2001, took the crown with a fifth place in race 1, won by Alex Barros (Honda). In the second race of the day Troy held the lead from start to finish, taking his eleventh win of the year in this extraordinary season. Bayliss's triumph takes the number of Riders' titles won by Ducati in the production-based series to twelve, while the battle for the Manufacturers' title is still open with one round left.

It was not the best of days for Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra riders at Imola today, but at least Yukio managed to take a hard-fought for podium in race two. The first race saw both Yukio and Troy fail to finish for very different reasons. Yukio’s GSX-R1000 was hit by the falling bike of Max Neukirchner on the opening lap and that was that. Troy was forced to retire after his bike kept finding false neutrals and it would have been too dangerous to continue.

Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) finally wrapped up the championship he had led for so long with a safe fifth place in race one, before underlining his abilities with a second race victory in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Imola. Alex Barros (Klaffi Honda) broke his personal SBK duck in the first race, setting a new lap record of 1'50.266 as he powered through from eighth on lap one to the victory. James Toseland (Winston Ten Kate Honda) secured second in race one and Andrew Pitt (Yamaha Motor Italia) third, while in race two, Barros was second behind Bayliss, with Yukio Kagayama (Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra) third. Bayliss now has an impressive 393 points, with Toseland up to second overall on 295, and Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia) third on 293. Pitt is fourth (239) and Barros fifth (231).

Near Miss For Foggy Petronas Racing At Imola

Foggy Petronas Racing riders Craig Jones and Steve Martin narrowly missed out on points-scoring finishes at the 11th round of the Superbike World Championship in Imola, Italy. Craig continued his recent improvement with a battling 17th place in the first race and Steve followed that with 16th in race two.

James Toseland (Winston Ten Kate Honda) scored a hard-fought second place in the first race of the Imola weekend, and followed it up with an even tougher fifth place in race two. His race performances mean that he is now two points ahead of his rival for second place overall, Noriyuki Haga. Karl Muggeridge (Winston Ten Kate Honda) scored eighth on two occasions, and sits 12th overall. Troy Bayliss was crowned champion after race one, and went on to win race two.

Charpentier And Sofuoglu Peerless At Imola

A superb display of formation flying from Sebastien Charpentier (Winston Ten Kate Honda) and Kenan Sofuoglu (Winston Ten Kate Honda) gave them the best result possible, with Charpentier's win keeping his championship hopes very much alive and Sofuoglu's second moving him up to third in the overall classification. Sofuoglu was the long-term leader, until Charpentier passed with seven laps to go, and other than a short excursion across the Variante Alta for Sofuoglu with just a handful of laps left, the race continued to a conclusion without major incident.

Kevin Curtain secured a vital front row start for tomorrow's 11th round of the Supersport World Championship in Imola. The Yamaha Motor Germany rider set a best time of 1:53.512 around the Italian circuit to grab fourth place on the grid for the 21-lap race.

Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) set a blistering lap of 1 minute 48.804 seconds in Superpole for tomorrow's Italian Round of the World Superbike Championship at Imola. The 37 year-old Australian, only sixth after the two qualifying sessions, knocked more than a second off his performance to take his fifth Superpole of the year and the twelfth in his career, outrunning second-placed James Toseland (Honda) by almost six-tenths of a second.

His team mate Yukio Kagayama is just behind, in fifth place, and both are determined to get podiums in tomorrow’s pair of 21 lap races. Series leader Troy Bayliss (Ducati) took Superpole with a lap of 1:48.804, the fastest he has been all weekend, with James Toseland (Honda) second and Andrew Pitt (Yamaha) third.

Team Alstare Engineering Corona Extra rider Max Neukirchner embarrassed many of the top factory riders at Imola today by posting the sixth fastest lap in Superpole. The German led the charge for over half of the 16-rider Superpole shoot-out and was only beaten by determined rides from the leading contenders. Troy Bayliss (Ducati) took Superpole with a tremendous lap of 1:48.804 - the only rider to dip into the 1:48s. Second was James Toseland (Honda) with Andrew Pitt (Yamaha) third and then Max’s fellow Alstare riders Troy Corser and Yukio Kagayama fourth and fifth respectively.
