Hopkins Hoping For Top Ten At Valencia
25 October 2008
Kawasaki's John Hopkins has his sights firmly set on a top ten finish at the final Grand Prix of the season in Valencia tomorrow, after qualifying his Ninja ZX-RR in 14th position on the grid. Anthony West will start his final race for Kawasaki from 17th position on the grid, after trailing his teammate home by just two tenths of a second this afternoon. Following yesterday's wet practice, intermittent rain at the 4km circuit today left the entire MotoGP field with little time to set-up their race machines in dry conditions. The rain began to fall just 10-minutes into the opening session of the day and although a dry line began to appear towards the end of the practice stint, neither Hopkins nor teammate West were able to switch to full slick tyres.

Difficult Day for Kawasaki at Phillip Island
04 October 2008
Kawasaki's John Hopkins and Anthony West remain optimistic ahead of tomorrow's Australian Grand Prix, despite finishing today's qualifying in 16th and 18th positions after both suffered with cornering difficulties aboard their Ninja ZX-RR race machines. Hopkins made a host of set-up changes ahead of the final free practice this morning, but like many other of the riders out on track in the early session, the Kawasaki pilot was caught out on cold tyres and crashed without injury after losing the front of his Ninja ZX-RR. Undeterred, Hopkins completed 25 laps in this afternoon's qualifying stint to continue improving the balance of his machine, to aid cornering around the Australian track. The 25-year-old Anglo-American was struggling particularly at the notorious final corner, through which riders must carry maximum speed onto the start-finish straight.

De Puniet Confident After Shanghai Qualifying
05 May 2007
Kawasaki rider, Randy de Puniet, will start tomorrow’s Chinese Grand Prix from the third row of the grid after qualifying in seventh position at the Shanghai International Circuit. Improving on the ninth place grid position he achieved at the circuit last year, his best time today was 1’59.985, with an impressive top speed of 320.66 km/h. The 26-year-old Frenchman held provisional pole for much of the session after putting in his fastest lap some 20 minutes in but, after this early use of a qualifying tyre, the other riders managed to catch up and push him back down the order. The team was hoping for a better result but Randy was unable to improve his time using his other two sets of Bridgestone qualifiers before the hour-long session was over. Adjustments to the suspension set up proved unfruitful and a return to the bike’s standard setting tomorrow should see Randy more confident.

The 26-year-old Frenchman has been consistently in the top ten on the timesheet throughout the three-day IRTA test on race tyres, but despite finishing the timed qualifying session as the top Bridgestone rider today, de Puniet was convinced he could have gone faster had he not hit a false neutral on his final flying lap.
