Byrne to Continue Early Season Domination

Shane Byrne is the rider in form in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship and he intends to continue his dominant run in the country’s premier series in the fourth round at the Donington Park grand prix circuit on Spring Bank Holiday Monday 26th May. The Airwaves Ducati rider has won four of the six races so far, finishing second in the other two, as he bids to regain the crown he won some five years ago, but he feels that his record should be better, having missed out on completing a second winning double of the season at Brands Hatch.

Tyre selection became a gamble with the ever-changing weather conditions. With the front row electing intermediates, Chris Martin transformed his pole position into race lead on the opening lap. With Richards (Triumph) and Kennaugh (Yamaha) breathing down the neck of the Gearlink Kawasaki rider, a red flag incident involving Alan O’Connor brought proceeding s to an early halt at the start of lap four. Grid positions for the 12-lap restart were taken from the running order at the close of lap 2. Richards on the MAP Embassy Triumph stole the holeshot but was soon passed by a determined Hudson Kennaugh on the Raceways Yamaha YZF-R6. The South African quickly settled into a groove with Richards hanging on to his shirt-tail.

Haslam At The Double To Maintain Title Bid

Leon Haslam maintained his outside hopes of winning the Bennetts British Superbike crown with a penultimate round double victory at his local Donington Park circuit on a day of problems for the leading duo of Ryuichi Kiyonari and Jonathan Rea. Riding the Airwaves Ducati, Haslam was running fourth on an opening lap led by Chris Walker from Rea and the impressive Tom Sykes, but that was soon to change as the Derbyshire rider picked off places to be duelling for the lead with Rea.

Hudson Kennaugh Returns to Raceways Yamaha

Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha has agreed to release Hudson Kennaugh in order for him to continue his challenge for the 2007 National Superstock Championship with Raceways Yamaha. Hudson joined Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha for round 4 at Oulton Park at the beginning of May. During his short spell with the team, Hudson collected four point scoring finishes in his last five races on board the Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha YZF-R1.

Superb Debut Podium For Tom Grant

Tom Grant gambled on improving weather conditions to secure his first podium finish ahead of team-mate Billy McConnell at Knockhill today, 1 July. The torrential rain had disappeared to leave a rapidly drying track as the Virgin Media Yamaha Supersport riders lined up next to each other on the third row of the grid. Both Tom and Billy had opted for a dry tyre combination, a decision that would prove to pay dividends during the second half of the reduced 20-lap race.

Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha riders, Tommy Hill and Hudson Kennaugh fell victim to the circumstances after the weather rapidly closed in early on in the Superbike Qualifying session. With only a handful of laps between them in the dry conditions they qualified in 10th and 14th respectively for round seven of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Knockhill yesterday.

The Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha British Superbike team has turned tartan in honour of Scotland's only leg of the 2007 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Knockhill this weekend, 29 June - 1 July. Tommy Hill arrived into Glasgow's George Square in style on his special liveried tartan Yamaha YZF-R1 ahead of the city's inaugural event, Superbikes in the Square. Kitted out in Glasgow's very own tartan print, the Lingfield star revealed the one off, new look design for the very first time with help from the glamorous Virgin Media Pit Police.

McConnell On Pole At Mondello

Virgin Media Yamaha Supersport rider, Billy McConnell claimed his second pole position of the British Supersport season at a wet Mondello Park near Dublin in Ireland today (16 June). McConnell topped the time sheets early into the first qualifying session only momentarily slipping back to fifth. However, Billy fought back with a lap time two seconds faster than his competitors to put his Yamaha YZF-R6 back in provisional pole position. Billy continued to improve on his blisteringly fast pace to leave him as the only rider in the 1:50's and over a second faster than the rest of the field.

Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha heads across the Irish Sea to Mondello Park for round six of the 2007 Bennetts British Superbike Championship this weekend, 15 - 17 June. Recent signing, Hudson Kennaugh will partner Tommy Hill on the Pirelli-shod Yamaha YZF-R1 Superbike. Both riders will be eager to score a brace of solid point-scoring rides at the complex circuit. The Virgin Media Yamaha Supersport pairing of Billy McConnell and Tom Grant are keen to transform their season-long strong qualifying performances into deserved podiums.

Double Seven For Hill At Snetterton

Tommy Hill transformed his second row start into a brace of seventh place finishes at Snetterton today, 20 May, in the fifth round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship. The 22-year old from Lingfield in Surrey fought with championship leader Gregorio Lavilla and Chris Walker during the opening laps onboard his Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha. Tommy placed as high as fifth position during the first third of race one but had to settle for his second seventh place in as many races at the chequered flag.

Virgin Media Crew Off To Snetterton

Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha heads to the Norfolk circuit of Snetterton, for round five of the 2007 Bennetts British Superbike Championship this weekend, 18 - 20 May. After completing a successful Official test at the 1.952mile track back at the end of March, high hopes for good results are expected. Tommy Hill returns to one of the fastest circuits in the season with fond memories of his last podium on the Pirelli-shod R1, gained during the second race at Snetterton last year.

Fighting Spirit From Virgin's Tommy Hill

Tommy Hill produced a spirited ride in the second race at Oulton Park, today, 7 May to claim his highest finish of the season. In a change of events from the first race, that saw Tommy record a lonely tenth, Tommy blasted his Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha YZF-R1 into the lead on the first lap as Leon Haslam braked for Hislop's chicane. The 22-year old rider from Lingfield in Surrey powered his 1000cc machine to a sustainable lead of ten bike lengths for the next two laps. Leon Haslam, hot on his tail, slipped underneath at Lakeside on Lap four as the front-runners broke from the chasing pack.

Front Row Start In Supersport For Virgin's Billy MConnel

Billy McConnell lines up on the front row of the grid on his Virgin Media Yamaha YZF-R6 for the fourth race in succession. The 20-year old Australian rider spent the majority of the morning qualifying session vying for provisional pole position. With the track recovering from a brief shower during mid-afternoon, Billy was unable to improve on his time of 1:39.376. Billy's morning time proved unsurpassable and he will line up second on the grid for tomorrow's 16-lap race around the 2.692mile Cheshire circuit.

Haydon Injured In Mountain Bike Crash
02 May 2007
In a cruel twist of fate, James Haydon has suffered a shoulder injury while out training on his mountain bike. James was undertaking his usual training regime in preparation for round four of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park over the May Bank Holiday weekend. An initial examination revealed ligament damage to his left shoulder. Doctors have advised that he takes time out to rest in order to minimise the recovery period.
