16 June 2008
Liverpool’s Steve Brogan extended his lead in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 championship with another win, taking his lead in the series to 40 points. In the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport series Steve took a battling sixth at the super-fast Snetterton circuit to hang on to second in the series. In the Bennetts British Superbike championship HM Plant Honda riders Leon Haslam and Cal Crutchlow had a tough day. Leon led most of the first race, but was bumped back to fifth after he went straight on at a chicane, while Cal suffered from a poor start but fought through to fourth. In the second wet race, Cal hung on for third place while Leon bagged fifth at the flag despite grip issues.

HM Plant Honda Hopes for Success at High-Speed Snetterton
12 June 2008
HM Plant Honda heads to Snetterton in Norfolk this weekend as the Bennetts British Superbike Championship meets for round five of the 12-round season. The flat, former airfield circuit offers high-speed action thanks to the long Revett Straight as well as some challenging corners. Both HM Plant Honda Superbike riders have been off to Japan in the break to test for their forthcoming race at the Suzuka Eight-Hour, as well as taking part in last weekend’s Suzuka 300km race. Meanwhile Steve Brogan has been training hard in the gym so he’s in the best physical shape for the weekend. In the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship, Steve intends to close the gap on series leader Glen Richards, while continuing to dominate in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 series.

Cal Crutchlow battled to a brave win in today’s Bennetts British Superbike races at Brands Hatch, less than a week after dislocating his right ankle. Cal led the first 15 laps of race one before being overtaken by race-winner Shane Byrne down the Cooper Straight and then by Suzuki’s Tom Sykes on the same lap at Surtees. He eventually finished third. Meanwhile, HM Plant Honda team-mate Leon Haslam was hampered by a poor start, which saw him down in 10th at the end of the first lap.

Three Wins Mark a Successful Day for HM Plant Honda

The Bennetts British Superbike season finally saw some racing today at the super-fast Thruxton circuit in Hampshire and it proved to be an excellent day for the HM Plant Honda team. In the Superbike category Cal Crutchlow took his first win in the class in the second race following his runner-up spot in race one. Meanwhile in Supersport and Superstock Steve Brogan completed a magnificent double by taking a win apiece in both classes. One HM Plant teamster who was not so lucky was Leon Haslam. The rider from Derbyshire was battling at the front of the pack in both races and scored a fighting fourth in race one, but succumbed to electrical problems while in the leading group in the second race.

After the snow-hit round at Brands Hatch, the 2008 Bennetts British Superbike series finally kicks off this weekend with the HM Plant Honda trio of Leon Haslam, Cal Crutchlow and Steve Brogan ready to race at Thruxton in Hampshire. The 2.34-mile circuit was originally built as an airfield in 1940 and was used by both the Royal Air Force and the United States Air Force during World War II. Soon after the war ended motorcycling began at the former airbase and the circuit has been in constant use ever since.

HM Plant Honda riders Cal Crutchlow and Leon Haslam line up on the front row for tomorrow’s two Bennetts British Superbike races. Both riders will be aiming to make the best possible starts to their championship campaigns, despite bad weather being forecast tomorrow for the Kent track. Both 20-lap races will be broadcast live on Eurosport. Meanwhile Honda (UK) Racing’s Steve Brogan is on pole position for tomorrow’s 16-lap Metzeler National Superstock race with his all-new CBR1000RR Fireblade. The 27-year old put the Supersport bike in sixth position on the grid for Sunday’s 18-lap race.
