2007 AMA Racing Awards Banquet Returns To Las Vegas

The 33rd Annual AMA Pro Racing Championship Awards Banquet will be held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino on Sunday evening, Nov. 18. The celebration held each year wraps up AMA Racing’s professional championship season honoring the top riders in American motorcycle racing. Stars from AMA Motocross, Superbike, Flat Track, Supercross, Supermoto and Hillclimb will be honored. New for 2007, the evening will also see the recognition of the top riders from AMA Pro ATV Racing. As has become tradition, the evening will conclude with the presentation of the AMA Pro Racing SPEED Athlete of the Year Award. Last year Motocross/Supercross star Ricky Carmichael became the first rider in AMA history to win the award for the fifth time.

Strank Sweeps 2006 Hillclimb Championships

Walter "Tiger" Strank, of Johnstown, Pa., once again swept the 2006 AMA Hillclimb Championship presented by Pace American in both the 800 and 540 classes. Strank, riding a pair of Bob Shreiner-built Yamahas, followed up winning both titles in 2005 by duplicating the feat this year. Strank now owns six-career AMA Hillclimb Championships.

Injured Hillclimber David Watson Transferred, Showing Signs Of Recovery

David Watson, seven-time AMA Hillclimb Champion, injured on Sept. 24 at the Jefferson Penn., AMA Hillclimb Championship event is showing signs of improvement and has been transferred to a hospital closer to his home according to family friend, Lorie DeBusk.

Hillclimber David Watson Injured

Seven-time AMA Hillclimb Champion, David Watson sustained injuries following his second climb in the 800 class at the Sept. 24, Jefferson, Penn., AMA National Hillclimb Championship event. The 28 year-old Springfield, Mass., native who now resides in Greenwood, Ind., was transported to York Trauma Center in York, Penn., for further evaluation.

Strank Opens AMA Hillclimb Title Defense In York, Pa

Tiger Strank will open his title defense of both classes of the AMA Hillclimb Championship presented by Pace American this Sunday, June 4, at the White Rose Motorcycle Club hill in York, Pa. Strank, of Johnstown, Pa., earned last year’s hillclimb championships in both the 800cc and 540cc classes riding a pair of Bob Shreiner-built Yamahas. Those titles marked the third and fourth AMA Hillclimb Championships for Strank, who won the 800cc class in 2001 and the 540cc in 2004.
