SPS Gloves Save His Wrist But Not His Supersport Bike

The inventor of the revolutionary Scaphoid Protection System [SPS] inadvertently put his creation to the ultimate test, demolishing his limited edition Yamaha R46 motorcycle in the process. James Hawkes, a mechanical engineer, designed the SPS following two earlier motorcycle crashes, in both of which he broke his scaphoid (a small bone in the hand that connects the thumb to the wrist). He had the idea patented and approached British impact protection specialists Knox to put it into production. The first gloves incorporating SPS were displayed at the German Intermot show in autumn 2006. By spring 2007 James received his own pair of Teknic Speedstar gloves (their first to incorporate SPS) and purchased a brand new Yamaha R46 ‘Rossi replica’ to celebrate.

Pro Race All-Season Gloves

Weise has developed the Pro Race gloves to create a product that will offer riders the confidence that comes from wearing sports gloves with the all-season weather protection of winter ones. These gloves are, therefore, manufactured from full grain leather, with overlay on the back of the fingers, the outer side of the little finger and on the palm. Anti-slip suede inlay panels are sewn between the thumb and index finger to aid grip when conditions get slippery. In addition there are 10 separate carbon fibre shields on each hand, covering the finger joints, knuckles and wrists.

Weise Race Tech Gloves With Aluminium Weave

The new Race Tech Gloves from Weise incorporate aluminium, a material more often associated with lightweight motorcycle components than clothing. These highly specified sport gloves are reinforced with aluminium weave material over the knuckles and finger joints, giving them a distinctive appearance. In common with the majority of racing gloves, the knuckles are encased in a resin shell, however Weise have covered the aluminium weave over the joints on the fingers and thumbs with a soft resin to ensure flexibility. Additional cushioning is provided over the back of the hand and vulnerable wrist area.
