Embassy Racing Moto Announce Plans for 2009

For 2009 Embassy will once again be entering two riders in the British Supersport Championship and will be hoping to build on their amazing success this year with wildcard entries in several World Supersport rounds. The team has announced that recent meetings with Triumph have confirmed that the British factory will be represented in the BSB paddock for a further year by Embassy Racing. The team will be holding tests over the winter to determine who will partner the already confirmed Glen Richards as the second rider on the all-new Triumph Daytona 675’s. However, the teams junior superstock rider AJ Venter will be given an opportunity to prove himself on a supersport machine before the end of the season in the hope of snatching the coveted second Embassy supersport ride.

Plater Takes Win for AIM Yamaha at Cadwell

Steve Plater rode to a calculated win for AIM Yamaha in round nine of the Fuchs/Silkolene British Supersport championship at Cadwell Park on Bank Holiday Monday. But there was no luck for David Paton who was involved in a second corner crash on the first lap. The Woodhall Spa ace had plenty to smile as he celebrated his birthday with a race win and was presented with a bottle of champagne after being pronounced rider of the day by the Eurosport presenters. Plater had been on form throughout the weekend and held pole in final qualifying until the session was stopped because of a fire in the campsite which saw smoke billowing across the track along Park Straight. As the session continued Plater was caught out by a cold tyre and slid off at Barn Corner. Unable to improve his lap times he was relegated to third place for a front row start to Monday’s planned 16-lap race.

Laverty Consolidates Championship Position in BSB

Michael Laverty consolidated his BSB Championship position at Cadwell Park yesterday with a brace of top ten results [8th & 9th]. The Toomebridge rider maintains ninth place in the series, only two points behind Simon Andrew with six races remaining. Ian Lowry showed true grit and determination at Cadwell Park, coming from a lowly qualifying position [16th] to eventually finish eighth on the tight and twisty Lincolnshire circuit in the Supersport class. Having crashed heavily during free practice at over 120mph, it was a brave effort from the battered and bruised 21-year-old. Aussie Cameron Donald joined Lowry in the sick bay at Cadwell with a stomach bug, but Cameron didn’t let it deter him, eventually finishing in 11th place. This was Cameron’s last race in the British Superstock Championship for 2008, as he returns to Melbourne on Monday.

Point Scoring Finish for Dickinson

Truck Links Yamaha rider, Joe Dickinson bounced back from his disappointment of Knockhill to score points for his Championship champaign at Round 9 of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship at Cadwell Park today (25th Aug). Reliant on a good start from his fourth row qualifying position, Joe fought hard for the duration of the 14 lap race with TT Champion John McGuinness and a gaggle of Supersport regulars. It was all he could do to maintain his 13th placed position in the mammoth battle that ensued amongst the seasoned riders that surrounded him.

Gearlink Kawasaki Seek More Points at Cadwell

The Gearlink Kawasaki British Supersport team head to Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire for round nine of the Fuchs/Silkolene British Supersport championship that takes place on August Bank Holiday Monday. Both Chris Martin and Steven Neate will be seeking strong points finishes to add to their points tally and enable them to move up the rider standings as the series progresses into its final stages.

Bridewell Buoyed for British Championship Return

Following on from a season racing in both the Italian Superbike Championship and the Suzuki GSX-R750 European Cup, this bank holiday weekend at Cadwell Park will see a welcome return for much-loved racer and paddock character Tommy Bridewell, who will return to the UK with the Centurion Racing Team. 19-year-old Tommy Bridewell from Devizes in Wiltshire will ride in place of Dennis Hobbs this weekend at Cadwell. Hobbs has now been ruled out of the remainder of the 2008 season after sustaining serious injuries to his shoulder at Thruxton, Hobbs is now currently waiting on an operation to try and repair the damage. Bridewell will be using one of Dennis' Centurion Honda 600s in the colours of the Chris Jones Riders Fund (www.cjnine.com) for the 16-lap British Supersport race, which takes place on Bank Holiday Monday, 25th August.

AIM Yamaha Go for Glory at Cadwell Park

Following the welcome return of Steve Plater plus the addition of David Paton, AIM Yamaha are back to a full contingent of riders to contest the eighth round of the Fuchs/Silkolene British Supersport championship at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire and both riders will be aiming for a podium finish in the 16-lap affair at the undulating Wolds circuit. Plater lives just a short distance away from the circuit at Woodhall Spa and is anticipating a strong result in front of his home crowd.

Sykes & Haslam Gunning for Glory

Fresh from their Scottish victories, Tom Sykes and Leon Haslam are eager for more of the same as the chase for the Bennetts British Superbike crown moves into the final third of the campaign at Cadwell Park over the Bank Holiday weekend. The man they have to beat is former champion Shane Byrne who has amassed a 110 points lead in the title stakes – the Airwaves Ducati rider has recovered from the bruising he took in a heavy tumble at Knockhill and is promising to show what might have been in that race. Byrne has won eight races so far, not finishing off the podium until that crash last time out, but he is taking nothing for granted as the young-guns of the series make determined challenges.

AIM Yamaha and Ian Hutchinson Part Company

AIM Yamaha have parted company with Ian Hutchinson with immediate effect and after the amicable split the team will not now be contesting the Ulster GP. The Bingley rider indicated that he was stepping down because he thought he was not giving the AIM Yamaha R6 justice as he has lost his way in terms of short circuit racing and failed to make a significant impact in the British Supersport championship. He qualified in 15th place at Knockhill but did not take part in Sunday's race.

Haslam takes debut 2008 win for HM Plant Honda at Knockhill

Leon Haslam finally got his first Bennetts British Superbike win on theboard for HM Plant Honda at Knockhill today. The victory in race two made up for his retirement in the first race, which was due to a misfire. His team-mate Cal Crutchlow suffered a disappointing day. He crashed in race one, before having to start at the back of the grid for the re-start of race two. Despite this handicap the Coventry rider managed to scythe his way through the field to finish in seventh place. In the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 race Steve Brogan toon his CBR1000RR Fireblade to yet another win - his sixth in eight races. He faced a tougher battle in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport event, where a bad start saw him way down the order. He managed to fight back to 11th place at the flag.

AIM Yamaha – Oulton Park Report

Both AIM Yamaha Supersport riders suffered problems during the seventh round race in the 2008 Fuchs/Silkolene British Supersport championship at Oulton Park but Ian Hutchinson managed to complete the 16 round encounter in 11th place while Steve Plater was forced to retire at three laps distance. The two qualifying periods were run in differing weather conditions; wet for the first session followed by a dry run later in the day, which was to set the grid for the start of the 16-lap race on Sunday. Plater rode through to sixth place and was all set for a second row start where he was sure he could produce a strong result.

Lowry Secures Supersport Podium at Oulton

Ian Lowry secured his fourth British Supersport podium of the season at Oulton Park in Cheshire yesterday, taking third place behind Glen Richards and Hudson Kennaugh. Michael Laverty worked hard all weekend posting two top ten results [9th and 7th] in the British Superbike races. The Toomebridge rider battled through from 16th on lap one of the opening BSB race taking a hard fought ninth place at the chequered flag; then in race two his seventh place again demonstrated his pedigree in the premier class. Double TT winner Cameron Donald was making his Oulton Park debut in the superstock races, securing a brace of top ten results with seventh in race one and tenth in race two.

More Crucial Points for HM Plant Honda at Oulton Park

The whole HM Plant Honda team took more vital points for their respective championships at round seven of the Bennetts British Superbike championship today. Cal Crutchlow took another podium finish in race two, after falling in race one and remounting to recover to sixth place. Meanwhile his team-mate Leon Haslam netted two fourth place finishes. Steve Brogan suffered his second DNF in a row in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport race, but kept his 100% podium record in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship with a hard-fought second place.

Bitter Disappointment for Toal at Oulton Park

Virgin Media Yamaha rider BJ Toal fell victim to a qualifying crash, resulting in a broken right wrist ahead of Round 7 of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship at Oulton Park this weekend (20th July). Mixed weather conditions had plagued the Cheshire circuit throughout the day, deeming the first outing of the Supersport qualifying session wet. Using the wet conditions to maximise his qualifying position, BJ quickly found his pace, confident in his ability.

Successful Oulton Return Required by HM Plant Honda This Weekend

The HM Plant Honda team will return to Bennetts British Superbike action for the second time of asking at Oulton Park this weekend. Cal Crutchlow sits in second-place in the series with team-mate Leon Haslam in fourth. Both Fireblade riders will want to be winning races to try and close the gap on runaway series leader Shane Byrne. Leon will want to score his maiden win this weekend, after netting four second places so far this year, while Cal – who has two wins to his credit – will also want to win and bag more points for HM Plant Honda.

Gearlink Make Return Trip to Oulton Park

The team at Gearlink Kawasaki have put the disappointment of Mallory Park behind them and concentrated all their efforts into producing a strong set of results from their return visit to Oulton Park on Sunday. A Weekend to Forget for Gearlink Kawasaki

After a good qualifying session whereby Chris Martin secured a front row and Steven Neate a second row start, the weather ensured that Mallory Park turned out to be a weekend to forget for Gearlink Kawasaki. The team arrived at the Leicestershire circuit full of enthusiasm and anticipation and both Chris Martin and Steven Neate were confident they could pull off a good set of results for Gearlink Kawasaki. Qualifying saw Chris circulating within the top four throughout the weekend and he recorded the fourth fastest time in the final session to secure a front row start to Sunday’s sixth round race in the Fuchs/Silkolene British Supersport championship.

Thompson’s Twin Performances Lift Team Appleyard/Macadam

Seventeen year old Jordan Thompson flew the flag admirably for Team Appleyard/Macadam at the sixth round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship this weekend at Mallory Park with two excellent top ten rides. With team-mates Deane Brown still recovering from his leg operation and Ashley Beech forced to miss his race after destroying his bike in qualifying, Jordan rode to a season’s best 7th and 8th places to give the team a much needed lift.

Lowry Takes Mallory Park Podium

Relentless Suzuki by TAS riders Ian Lowry and Michael Laverty can both take positives from Sunday’s BSB round at Mallory Park. Lowry secured a strong podium finish after a very wet British Supersport race in third place. Laverty’s results [11th and a DNF] do not reflect the strength of his performances at the Leicestershire venue. In race one, Laverty was in the front five fighting for the win but after being punted out of second place at Shaw’s Hairpin by Shane Byrne on lap 7, then getting caught out by backmarkers in the closing stages – the Toomebridge rider lost the front going into Charlie’s while holding a solid fifth place. He eventually remounted to finish 11th.

Podiums for Crutchlow & Haslam at Mallory

HM Plant Honda’s Cal Crutchlow took a pair of third places at today’s Bennetts British Superbike races at Mallory Park, putting him back into second place in the championship. His team-mate Leon Haslam took a superb second in the first race, but slipped to sixth in the second outing with a tyre choice that didn’t suit the drying conditions on the 1.41-mile Leicestershire track. In the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship Steve Brogan crashed his HM Plant Honda CBR600RR out of the race and broke two bones in his foot. The 27-year-old rider is banking on being fit for the second meeting of the season at Oulton Park in around three weeks time. Today’s race schedule at Mallory Park did not include the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 championship.
