Fortuna Honda Riders Will Look To Make A Good Start To Finish The Season On A High
31 October 2006
Marco Melandri and Toni Elias will both be hoping to make a good start to Sunday’s race in Valencia to finish what has, so far, been a difficult weekend in good style. In the morning free session both riders found good rhythm, but they did not make best use of their qualifying tyres and failed to get good grid positions for the race. Melandri will start from the fourth row, while his team-mate will Toni Elias will set off from the fifth. The huge crowds expected on Sunday, around 120,000 people, will ensure a superb spectacle as Fortuna look to sign off their involvement with the team in style. Melandri is hoping the team will be able to find a way to improve his feeling with the bike overnight as he looks to claim third place in the world championship ahead of nearest rival Loris Capirossi.

Spectacular Win For Fortuna's Toni Elias At Estoril
16 October 2006
Toni Elias scored a thrilling first win in the MotoGP class at Estoril, edging out Valentino Rossi in a photo-finish after a race that saw Nicky Hayden taken out by his Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa. After an incredible battle with first Colin Edwards and then Rossi, he beat the seven-time World Champion on a sprint down the final straight to claim victory by just two thousandths of a second. Still third in the championship standings, Marco Melandri finished in eighth after a difficult weekend. The crash he suffered on Friday spoiled the race preparation. Despite the hard work with the team and Michelin, Melandri couldn’t find the good feeling. He looks forward to Valencia to defend his third position in the championship with a great race.

Difficulties Continue For Fortuna Honda Riders
16 October 2006
Marco Melandri’s fall on Friday affected his performance on the second day of qualifying for the Portuguese Grand Prix, with the Fortuna Honda Rider having to settle for 15th place on the grid. The Italian opted to focus his attention on tyre selection on Saturday and was 12th fastest in the morning session. He went 0.8 seconds fastest in the afternoon, but still finished down in 15th. Forecasts are predicting rain on Sunday and that could help the Italian recover some places in the race itself. Melandri’s team-mate Toni Elias put in a solid showing and claimed 11th spot on the grid. The Spaniard will now hope to make a fast start tomorrow and latch on to the lead group.

Difficult Start For Fortuna Honda Riders
16 October 2006
The first day of action in the penultimate round of the season proved to be a difficult one for the Fortuna Honda riders as the Grand Prix of Portugal got underway at Estoril. A heavy fall at the start of the afternoon session left Marco Melandri out of action and with plenty of set-up work still to do tomorrow. The Team Gresini rider ran wide in turn 9 and crashed, suffering a contusion to his left knee and a light trauma to his neck. X-rays carried out immediately in the Clinica Mobile ruled out a fracture but he was taken to hospital for a CAT scan as a precaution. Toni Elias also had a tough time despite lapping well in the morning. He also suffered the setback of a crash, in turn one, and could only manage the eleventh fastest time although he is confident of improving on that when the practice action resumes tomorrow.

Gritty Hayden Grinds Out Sixth Successive Podium
10 April 2006
Nicky Hayden (Repsol Honda RC211V) came a narrow second to Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) in a tense MotoGP race here in windy Qatar. Loris Capirossi (Ducati) was third. This is Hayden’s sixth consecutive rostrum finish as he bids for his first win of the 2006 season. With a 33km/h wind, erratic in direction, blowing throughout the day, turns two and nine seemed to be the worst affected. There was also a 44 degree track temperature to contend with, although the elevated ambient temperature that is so often a debilitating factor here was ‘only’ 25-degrees now that this is an April race instead of an October fixture.
