Suzuki's Mladin And Spies Dominate Fontana

Team Yoshimura Suzuki's Mat Mladin and team mate Ben Spies dominated the second leg of the AMA Superbike Championship double-header at California Speedway in Fontana today, with Mladin taking the victory by just 0.035 seconds. The six-time AMA Champion reversed the places on his team mate as the two GSX-R1000s finished 21 seconds ahead of third-placed Eric Bostrom (Yamaha) in the 28 lapper.

Spies Heads Yoshimura Suzuki 1-2

Reigning AMA Superbike Champion Ben Spies headed a Yoshimura Suzuki one-two at the opening leg of the California Speedway double-header in Fontana, California today. Spies took the lead and held it to the end of the 28-lapper to finish 6.7 seconds ahead of team-mate and six-time champion Mat Mladin. New Yoshimura Suzuki team rider Tommy Hayden raced to fourth place, four seconds behind Yamaha's Ben Bostrom.

Mladin Carries Momentum Into Suzuki Superbike Challenge

After relinquishing the title to Yoshimura Suzuki teammate Ben Spies last year, six-time AMA Superbike Champion Mat Mladin vowed to come back with renewed vigor in 2007. The 35-year-old Australian has been true to his word. As the AMA Superbike Championship presented by Parts Unlimited comes to the AMA Suzuki Superbike Challenge at California Speedway in Fontana, Calif., on April 27-29, Mladin is coming off an impressive doubleheader sweep this past weekend in Birmingham, Ala., and has moved from 10th to second in the standings and drawn within eight points of series leader Spies.

The Graves Yamaha rider hopes to continue his remarkable comeback as the series gets back underway at Road America’s Briggs & Stratton Motorplex this Saturday, June 3 in Elkhart Lake, Wis.

Spies Wins Second Double-Header

Team Yoshimura Suzuki’s Ben Spies raced his GSX-R1000 to a second consecutive AMA Superbike Championship double-header victory at the second Fontana race in California. The 23-year-old Texan took the lead from the start from team mate Mat Mladin, lost it, then moved to the front again to win by 4.4 seconds over the six-time champion. Aaron Yates, who finished third in the Superstock race earlier in the day, finished eighth overall.

Spies And Mladin One-two At Fontana

Team Yoshimura Suzuki’s Ben Spies and Mat Mladin claimed another one-two at Saturday’s opening Fontana AMA Superbike Championship race on their GSX-R1000s. For Spies, it was his third consecutive victory and one that helped him increase his series lead over six-time AMA Champion Mladin. Mladin had earlier led the 28-lapper but Spies slipped by just past the half-way mark to win by almost seven seconds.
