Mike Kidd to lead AMA Flat Track Programme

AMA Pro Racing has hired Mike Kidd to lead the growth and development of the AMA Flat Track Championship. Kidd has had a long and successful career in motorcycling, first as a racer and then as a promoter. He began his 12-year professional motorcycle racing career in 1972 and earned factory support from a variety of manufacturers over that span. He was sponsored by the U.S. Army in 1979-80 and won the coveted AMA Grand National Championship title in 1981.

Re-scheduled AMA Flat Track Date Announced

Fans of the AMA Flat Track Championship who were disappointed by the heavy rains that shut down the Springfield Mile's scheduled Memorial Day run should circle Labor Day weekend on their calendars now. Labor Day, the other traditional weekend for AMA flat track racing in Springfield, Ill., will now feature two main events to make up for the cancelled race.

AMA Announces Revisions to AMA Flat Track Championship

AMA Racing announced today that two events have been removed from the 2008 Flat Track Championship schedule and a new event has been added. The races that have been cancelled are the GNC Twins half-mile scheduled at Volunteer Speedway, Bulls Gap, Tennessee, on June 7th and the TT and short track GNC Singles doubleheader scheduled at Castle Rock Race Park, Castle Rock, Washington, Aug. 8th-9th.

AMA Racing’s Morgan Broadhead Relocated

AMA Road Racing Manager Morgan Broadhead has been relocated to the University of Utah Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Ward to continue his recovery from injuries sustained while practicing for the WERA/AMA National Challenge Series at Jennings GP in Jennings, Fla., on Friday, Sept. 28. This according to his mother, Lee Broadhead.

Broadhead was injured Friday, September 28 while practicing for the WERA/AMA National Challenge Series at Jennings GP in Jennings, Florida.

Broadhead has been hospitalized at Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla, and is currently in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

2007 AMA Racing Awards Banquet Returns To Las Vegas

The 33rd Annual AMA Pro Racing Championship Awards Banquet will be held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino on Sunday evening, Nov. 18. The celebration held each year wraps up AMA Racing’s professional championship season honoring the top riders in American motorcycle racing. Stars from AMA Motocross, Superbike, Flat Track, Supercross, Supermoto and Hillclimb will be honored. New for 2007, the evening will also see the recognition of the top riders from AMA Pro ATV Racing. As has become tradition, the evening will conclude with the presentation of the AMA Pro Racing SPEED Athlete of the Year Award. Last year Motocross/Supercross star Ricky Carmichael became the first rider in AMA history to win the award for the fifth time.

Kopp Hoping For Three Straight At Greenville Half-mile

Only one rider has tasted victory at Greenville, Ohio’s Darke County Fairgrounds Half-mile and that is Screamin’ Eagle/Latus Harley-Davidson rider Joe Kopp. Kopp, the 38-year-old former AMA Grand National Champion from Mica, Wash., will be gunning for his third straight national win at the 3rd Annual Annie Oakley Shootout in Greenville this Saturday, July 21, part of the AMA Ford Quality Checked Flat Track Championship.

Jared Mees has a two-race winning streak coming into this Saturday’s (July 7) rescheduled AMA Ford Quality Checked Flat Track Grand National Twins Championship race at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois. Mees, who rides for Blue Springs/Screamin’ Eagle/Saddlemen Harley-Davidson, could become the first rider in six years to win three AMA Grand Nationals in a row should he earn victory in Joliet.

Johnson Opens Title Defense In Grand National Flat Track Singles Series In Daytona

Daytona Beach, Florida’s Municipal Stadium will be the site of the opening two rounds of the 2007 AMA Ford Quality Checked Flat Track Championship. The series will open with a pair of Grand National Singles rounds on Wednesday, March 7 and Thursday, March 8, with gates opening at 6:00 p.m. Suzuki’s Jake Johnson won the inaugural AMA Grand National Singles Championship last year and the rider from Franklinville, N.J., is hoping for a good weekend at Daytona to get his 2007 campaign off to a solid start.

Ford Quality Checked Certified Pre-Owned Brand Renews Sponsorship Of Flat Track Championship

AMA Pro Racing announced today that Ford Motor Company and the Quality Checked Certified Pre-Owned Brand have renewed the company’s title sponsorship of the AMA Flat Track Championship through the 2007 racing season. This is the third consecutive year of Ford Motor Company’s sponsorship of AMA Flat Track.

Flat Track - Saillant Promoted, Broadhead Hired As Part Of On-Going Staff Restructuring

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and AMA Pro Racing are pleased to announce that Ken Saillant has been promoted to Flat Track Director and Morgan Broadhead will join the company as Road Race Manager. Saillant will oversee Flat Track racing activities in both the AMA’s professional and amateur racing programs. Flat Track Manager Bruce Bober will report to Saillant. Responsibility for the AMA Hillclimb Championship will also fall under Saillant.

Kenny Coolbeth 2006 Grand National Twins Champion

Kenny Coolbeth won the final round of the 2006 AMA Ford Quality Checked Flat Track Championship at Scioto Downs in Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday, Oct. 14, and in the process earned the AMA Grand National Twins Championship. It marked the first national championship for Coolbeth.

Flat Track Twins Championship Finale Rescheduled To New Date And Time

Fans of the AMA Ford Quality Check Flat Track Championship will have to wait a couple more weeks to see who captures the AMA Grand National Twins crown as last Saturday night’s scheduled finale was washed away due to heavy rains. The event, dubbed the Charity Newsies Hall of Fame Classic AMA Grand National presented by A.D. Farrow Co., has been rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 14 with a rain date of Oct. 15 at Scioto Downs in Columbus, Ohio.

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) held the first meetings of the AMA Flat Track Rules Committee and AMA Supermoto Rules Committee at its corporate headquarters in Pickerington, Ohio on Wednesday, Sept. 13, and Thursday, Sept. 14, respectively. Participants in the AMA Flat Track Rules Committee meeting included team owner Ed Adkins, Pat Alexander of American Suzuki Motor Corp., rider Shawn Baer, rider/team owner Chris Carr, tuner Greg Crow, Kevin Crowther of AMA Pro Racing, technical consultant George Halyak, Michael Lloyd representing Aprilia, tuner Dale Lineweaver, Anne Paluso of Harley-Davidson Motor Co., Kurt Nicoll of KTM North America, and former rider/promoter Gene Romero. Keith McCarty of Yamaha Motor Corp., was not in attendance.
