World Superbike Resumes After Summer Break with Donington Classic
04 September 2008
This coming weekend at Donington, the HANNspree Superbike World Championship takes up again where it left off exactly one month ago with a round on British soil, the eleventh appointment in this year’s exciting championship and the first of the final four that will lead to the crowning of the 2008 champion. The first weekend in September is a new date for the East Midlands circuit, which will host a World Superbike round for the seventeenth time in its history, having been the venue for the first event of the production-based championship way back in April 1988.

Japanese Trio Hit the Front in SBK Qualifying at Brands
02 August 2008
A trio of Japanese riders hit the front in the first qualifying session for round 10 of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship at Brands Hatch, with two-times British Superbike champion Ryuichi Kiyonari clocking a time of 1 minute 26.017 seconds to take provisional pole. The Hannspree Ten Kate Honda man, who also won the Suzuka 8 Hours a few days ago, was just a fraction ahead of his fellow countryman Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB), second quickest today despite a late trip into the gravel. Suzuki Alstare’s Yukio Kagayama set a similar time to Haga to grab the third slot, while Italian Max Biaggi (Sterilgarda Go Eleven Ducati) was a further fraction of a second behind to complete the provisional front row.

Yamaha Riders Out to Score Big in Brno
16 July 2008
After a successful two-day test at Vallelunga between 8th and 9th July both Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) are fully prepared to meet the challenge of a resurfaced Brno circuit on Sunday 20th July. The 9th round of the 2008 season sees Haga arrive in fourth place in the overall championship fight, only six points ahead of his team-mate Corser. Now the most effective team-mates in the field once again, Haga has won four races so far, while Corser has been desperately unfortunate not have taken at least one win among his six podiums. Each rider has recorded successes at Brno, with Corser having won three races there and Haga one. Each took a Brno victory in 2005, Corser the first and Haga the second. The Yamaha duo traded the fastest lap in the two Czech races last year.

SBK Reaches #500 Mark with Czech Republic Round at Brno
16 July 2008
The Superbike World Championship notches up an important benchmark this coming weekend at the Automotodrom Brno circuit in the Czech Republic as the production-based racing series reaches the #500 mark with Sunday’s race two. The championship got underway at Donington Park on April 3rd, 1988 and this weekend’s round at Brno will see races #499 and #500. Even though the Czech Republic Round is the 252nd in the championship’s history, on four occasions (1988 Le Mans, 2001 Phillip Island, 2005 Imola, 2007 Silverstone), only race one was held due to inclement weather conditions.

Neukirchner Powers to Superpole in Home Round
15 June 2008
Max Neukirchner (Alstare Suzuki) powered to a second Superpole win of the season in his home round of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship at the Nurburgring. The 25-year-old from Stollberg in the former East Germany, set an incredible time of 1 minute 55.471 seconds around the 5.137 km circuit on his Suzuki GSX-R1000. The remainder of the front row was made up of riders from three different manufacturers; Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) was three-tenths of a second down in second place, followed by Carlos Checa (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) and Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB), who ten days ago was undergoing surgery on a broken collarbone.

Checa’s Double Win Leaves All to Play for at Nurburgring
11 June 2008
The double win by Carlos Checa (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) in Round 6 of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship two weeks ago at Miller Motorsports Park in the USA succeeded in shuffling the cards in the points standings somewhat as the series reaches the mid-point of the season. With Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) failing to score in both races, the Spaniard has now cut the gap to the top man to just 28 points. What seemed a healthy points cushion for the Australian just a couple of races ago, is now not such a large gap after all, proving that anything can happen in the unpredictable world of Superbike racing. The second new circuit in the space of two weeks is the Nurburgring, which has not hosted a round of the Superbike World Championship since 1999, when the German Round made its second and last visit after the first event in 1998. Four riders in the current world championship line-up have raced Superbike there before – Troy Corser, Noriyuki Haga, Ruben Xaus and Gregorio Lavilla – with the Australian powering to a race 2 win in 1999, while Carlos Checa and Max Biaggi have raced in 500 and 250 respectively and Max Neukirchner in the German championship. Almost one decade has passed since then and this weekend’s Nurburgring race is sure to throw up a few surprises.

SBK Heads to Classic Dutch TT Circuit for Round 4 of 14
23 April 2008
The classic Dutch TT circuit at Assen plays host to the fourth round of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship this weekend, after a gap of three weeks from the Spanish Round. With two second places at Valencia, Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) increased his lead over his closest rivals to 48 points but the Australian is now coming under threat from a number of adversaries, mainly on four-cylinder machines. Regulation-wise, there will be no extra handicap applied to the twin-cylinder 1200s for the next three rounds, as the event average difference between the two types of machines – twins and fours - has so far proved to be insufficient to warrant a change.

Bayliss Faces Spanish Attack At Valencia
03 April 2008
With the opening two flyaway rounds behind them, competitors in the 2008 HANNspree Superbike World Championship are now on European soil for the third round of the series at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, Valencia, Spain. The form guide after two events shows Ducati Xerox Team’s Troy Bayliss at the top of the standings with 88 points and three wins to his name in four races, but other riders and teams are now emerging as powerful threats to the Australian, in particular Suzuki Alstare’s Fonsi Nieto and Carlos Checa of HANNspree Honda Ten Kate. “Valencia is one of those tracks where I expect everyone to go better and I think those teams that have perhaps been a little behind us with getting ready for the championship will now start to show results,” said Bayliss.

Triumph-SC To Prepare The European 600 Superstock Debut
30 March 2008
The Scuderia Triumph-SC team is very busy to prepare the European 600 Superstock Championship start next April 5 in Valencia. The Italian squad made a two-day test on Mugello Circuit with the 675 Daytona in Superstock configuration. Talented British riders Tom Grant and Robbie Stewart, which will campaign the Scuderia Triumph- SC 675 in the 2008 European Superstock 600 series, could make a good job, despite the amateur’s traffic which crowded the track, also thank the splendid sunshine week end.

Local rider Tommy Hill takes wet superpole win, young brit uses silverstone experience to the full Twenty-one year-old wild card rider Tommy Hill (Virgin Mobile Yamaha) took his first ever Superpole win at a wet and slippery Silverstone circuit, displacing none other than World Championship Leader Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) in the process. Hill, a British Superbike regular, rode with aplomb in the atrocious conditions, setting the best lap of 1’38.001. Under the wet Superpole rules, each rider from the 16 who have qualified for Superpole gets 12 laps in which to set their best qualifying time.

27 May 2006
Two crashes can’t halt the progress of Bayliss. A day of crashes, stoppages, changeable weather and the usual intense Superbike competitiveness was finally put to rest by the impressive pace of Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox), who beat the existing race lap record with a 1’27.011 lap. His best circuit of the Silverstone track was set on race tyres, and came despite a double fall in the twice-interrupted first qualifying session in the afternoon. Just behind Bayliss, only 0.057 seconds down, Troy Corser (Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra) went second quickest, and in a dazzlingly close session, the top 26 qualifiers were all within two seconds of pole.

WSB & WSS Preview Silverstone– 5th Round – 26th, 27th And 28th May
24 May 2006
Prestigious British track Silverstone, is the first of the two British engagements for SBK. The humble beginnings of Silverstone, a former airfield, belie its current globally recognised status. Britain’s F1 track is now a firm favourite on the SBK calendar, originally hosting the global SBK series over its full layout in 2002 and most recently in its shorter, but more intense, National layout, used for the first time in 2005. The 3.561km circuit features a plethora of challenges, with the slow corners of the Brooklands and Luffield complexes ensuring that any advantages for the absolutely fastest machines on the straights can be made up during braking, delivering close battles throughout the field.

WSB & WSS Superpole Monza – 4th Round – 5th, 6th And 7th May
06 May 2006
Corser and Bayliss battle it out once again. After his number one rival Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) looked to have done enough to take Superpole, 2005 World Champion Troy Corser (Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra) showed his desire to start the two 18-lap Monza Superbike races on Sunday in number one spot, taking his second Superpole win of the year with a 1’46.058 lap. His time was the best of the weekend so far, the best in the history of Superbike qualifying at this circuit, and over half a second from his previous fastest in regulation qualifying earlier in the day. It was his 36th career Superpole triumph, extending his all-time record of Superpole wins. Bayliss set a personal best qualifying time of 1’46.360 in Superpole for second place on the grid.

WSB & WSS First Qualifying Practice Monza – 4th Round – 5th, 6th And 7th May
05 May 2006
With just the merest drizzle of rain appearing at the Ascari chicane section of the 5.793km Monza circuit, shortly after the start of the first timed session, the hour long Friday qualifying for the World Superbike riders proved to be a difficult affair. It was headed up by the impressively fast Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia), with a 1’47.007 – faster than the previous lap record on race tyres, but only 0.028 from the absolute track best, despite the increasingly damp sections at Ascari and the Parabolica. Closest to Haga was championship leader Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox), only 0.036 seconds from the rapid Japanese rider.

VALENCIA - 3rd ROUND – 21, 22 and 23 APRIL
19 April 2006
Round three heralds return to Europe, Valencia set to provide another thrilling weekend. Now a regular and much nticipated stop on the World Superbike trail, the Circuito Ricardo Tormo, located near the port of Valencia on Spain’s East coast, once more hosts a busy World Superbike weekend from 21-23 April. The series returns to Europe for the majority of the remainder of the 13-round season, with only the final race in South Africa bracketing the Euro-trail. At 4.005km, Valencia packs a lot of action into a stadium style amphitheatre, with its generally tight layout and frequent changes of direction leaving little time for riders to relax. Virtually all of the top riders on show on the forthcoming weekend have already tested their 2006 equipment at Valencia, some during both private winter tests and then the recent official FGSport Superbikes sessions, held in late March.
