Rossi Back in Business

Write him off at your peril – a magnificent display by 29 year old Valentino Rossi that rolled back the years as he won the Pramac Grand Prix of China in Shanghai this afternoon. It was classic Rossi, reeling off faster and faster laps on the Fiat Yamaha to finally break the resolve of a very determined Dani Pedrosa who not only finished an impressive second but also took over the lead in the World Championship. It was Rossi first win since Portugal last year and his first on Bridgestone tyres and he lies third in the Championship, nine points behind Pedrosa. World Champion Casey Stoner was a lonely third after the wrong tyre choice on the start and finish line when the earlier rain stopped and the track started to dry.

Toseland – Fast Learner

Yorkshireman James Toseland continued his brilliant short MotoGP career by qualifying seventh fastest on his first ever visit to the long Shanghai circuit. With his Tech 3 Yamaha team-mate Colin Edwards qualifying in pole position it was a fantastic afternoon for the French based team. Twenty –seven year old Toseland improved every session and will start from the third row of the grid. His only worry, together with all the other riders, is the weather forecast for tomorrow.

Lorenzo Escapes Serious Injury in Spectacular Crash

MotoGP World Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo escaped serious injury in a spectacular crash during the first practice session for the Grand Prix of China this morning (Friday). Lorenzo, who celebrates his 21st birthday on Sunday, was thrown high in the air when he highsided from his Fiat Yamaha coming out of turn two. The Mallorca - based rider who won his first MotoGP race in Portugal three weeks ago, was rushed to the medical centre at the Shanghai circuit and then taken to hospital for a scan. Incredibly Lorenzo, who is the current 250 cc World Champion, was diagnosed with a chipped bone in his left ankle, bruising to his right ankle and right knee but no fractures. A decision if he will be fit to ride in the qualifying session tomorrow afternoon will be made later.

Chinese Puzzles for Toseland & Redding

James Toseland and Scott Redding continue their MotoGP educations when they take to the Shanghai track for the very first time on Friday morning in the first practice sessions for the Pramac Grand Prix of China. It’s not a new experience for the MotoGP and 125 cc stars with both of them performing with great credit when they raced at Estoril in Portugal for the very first time at the previous round three weeks ago. ‘Old campaigners’ 17 year olds Bradley Smith and Danny Webb plus Ulsterman Eugene Laverty have competed at the 3.281 mile circuit that includes the fastest straight and the longest corner in the MotoGP calendar.

Toseland & Webb Fly The Flag

James Toseland and Danny Webb carried on where they left off in qualifying with brilliant performances where it mattered, in the races at the bwin.com Grand Prix of Portugal in Estoril this afternoon. Toseland, making his first appearance at the 2.599 mile Estoril circuit on the Atlantic coast was seventh in a 28 lap hectic MotoGP encounter despite a bad start from the second row of the grid. Twenty seven year old Toseland after just three MotoGP races is fifth in the Championship, only 11 points behind World Champion Casey Stoner.

Tough Weather Day For Brits

The fortunes of the British riders matched the mixed match of weather that surrounded the Estoril circuit during the first day of practice for the bwin.com Grand Prix of Portugal. James Toseland crashed at slow speed in the afternoon MotoGP practice session that was held in dry but blustery conditions around the 2.599 mile circuit. The Yorkshire man was in good company with five times Estoril winner Valentino Rossi crashing on the damp track in the morning and current World Champion Casey Stoner falling on the first lap of the afternoon session. Both Bradley Smith and Danny Webb crashed in the first 125 cc practice session when the track was cold and slippery.

The Slowest MotoGP Venue Provides New Challenge

The 2.599 mile Estoril circuit is the slowest venue in the 18 round MotoGP World Championship and will provide a fresh challenge for Britain’s newest grand prix stars. Both Yorkshire man James Toseland and 15 year old Scott Redding have never raced at Estoril while Bradley Smith, Danny Webb and Eugene Laverty have limited knowledge of the former Formula One car venue.

Toseland’s Brilliant 6th Down To A Bowl Of Porridge

James Toseland dedicated his brilliant sixth place in the bwin.com Grand Prix of Spain due to a bowl of his Mum’s porridge and the work of the Clinica Mobile at the Jerez circuit. The tough Yorkshire man was suffering from an energy sapping chest infection but fought his way to sixth place on a last bend showdown with three other riders that had the 134,000 crowd on their feet. It was rough and tough stuff with veteran former World Champion Capirossi grabbing fifth place on the race to the line. The 27 lap race was won by Spaniard Dani Pedrosa who had quite a day riding the Repsol Honda. The 22 year old secured his first MotoGP win at Jerez, took over the lead in the World Championship and received the winner’s trophy from the King Juan Carlos.

Toseland On The Pace Despite Chest Infection

James Toseland continued where he left off in Qatar by fighting off a chest infection to finish eighth fastest after two practice session for the bwin.com Grand Prix of Spain at Jerez this afternoon. The Yorshireman was just seven tenths of one second behind Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo who led the dramatic second practice session that saw World Champion Casey Stoner crash without injury.

Heading the new breed of challengers is 27 year old Yorkshireman James Toseland who made a stunning MotoGP debut in Qatar riding the Tech 3 Yamaha. The double World Superbike Champion qualified second fastest and finished sixth on his debut race almost pipping seven times World Champion Valentino Rossi on the line.

With nearly 500 guests on the evening it was a busy schedule and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. With compare for the evening being Trevor T who did a splendid job and who had everyone up dancing round the tables before the evening began, it was always set to be an entertaining night!

Stoner Chases 11th Heaven In Final Showdown

Australian Casey Stoner wants to end his memorable season with one final victory at the last round of the MotoGP Championship, the bwin.com Grand Prix of the Community of Valencia in Spain on Sunday. What a finale it would prove for the 22 year-old riding the Marlboro Ducati after he has totally dominated the first 800cc season by winning ten grands prix with consummate ease that has left everybody else fighting for second place. The 2.489 mile Ricardo Tormo circuit was the venue for Stoner’s first ever grand prix win, when he won the 125cc race four years ago and it was also where he first tested the Ducati after the final grand prix of last season.

Stoner Rolls Into Sepang

The Casey Stoner/Marlboro Ducati bandwagon rolls into Sepang on the crest of a wave for the penultimate round of the MotoGP World Championship. Not only did 22 year-old Stoner win his first Australian Grand Prix and his ninth grand prix on Sunday at Phillip Island but he arrives at the 3.447 miles Sepang circuit with two victories under his belt in both the 125 and 250cc classes. Ducati, who clinched both the Constructers and Team World Championships in Australia also have a good record at the circuit situated near KL International Airport with Loris Capirossi winning there last year and finishing second after a tremendous battle with Valentino Rossi the previous year.

Local Hero Stoner Returns Home

The new MotoGP World Champion Casey Stoner returns home to a hero’s welcome when he makes his one and only appearance in Australia at the GMC Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island on Sunday. Twenty one year-old Stoner clinched the title at the previous round in Japan. Since that moment the sports mad Australian public have doubled the sales of grand prix tickets from last year at the magnificent venue. Riding the GP7 Marlboro Ducati, Stoner has dominated the Championship, winning eight grands prix but he’s never won a Championship race at the 2.763 miles Phillip Island. Victory in the 26-lap race would really be the icing on the cake in a truly remarkable season for the Australian and his Italian team.

Stoner Needs To Beat Rossi To Be World Champion

If Casey Stoner finishes in front of Valentino Rossi in the A-Style Grand Prix of Japan on Sunday he will be crowned the 2007 MotoGP World Champion with three rounds remaining. The 21 year-old Australian leads the Italian by an impressive 76 points and if he finishes in front of him in the 24-lap race he will win the title that he has had firmly in his grasp since that opening round of the championship in Qatar way back in March. However, Rossi may be able to delay the inevitable for another week after a superb win in the bwin.com Grand Prix of Portugal on Sunday. His Fiat Yamaha and Michelin tyres for once stood up to the all-conquering combination of Stoner’s Marlboro Ducati and the Bridgestone tyres in a superb race in which the Repsol Honda of Dani Pedrosa also paid a large part.

With five rounds of the 18-round title chase remaining, the Marlboro Ducati rider needs to score 15 points more than seven times World Champion Valentino Rossi in the 28-lap race round the 2.599 Estoril circuit. It’s a tough but not impossible task for Stoner who arrives on the Atlantic coast of Portugal in superb form. He has not only won, but totally dominated the last three grands prix, on the GP 7 Ducati. Can anybody stop Casey Stoner winning the 2007 MotoGP World Championship? It’s very doubtful and they must start by winning the 13th round of the Championship, the Cinzano Grand Prix di San Marino e dello Riviera of Rimini at Misano on Sunday. The 21 year-old Australian arrives with a massive 60-point championship lead and seeking his eighth win of the season on the Marlboro Ducati. He’s won the last two grands prix with consummate ease and will have plenty of support from the partisan Italian Ducati fans. His nearest rival Valentino Rossi can guarantee the support with his home village around ten miles from the track, but the seven-times World Champion can guarantee little else.

Crashing In The The Donington Rain

Seven times Donington winner Valentino Rossi was among the fallers in the opening practice sessions for the Nickel and Dime British Grand Prix at Donington Park. Torrential rain soaked the 2.50 mile Leicestershire circuit for the first MotoGP practice sessions. French Grand Prix winner Chris Vermuelen was the first to slide off closely followed by Rossi. Another former Grand Prix winner Carlos Checa completed the trio as the rain poured down. All riders were unhurt. Dani Pedrosa ran wide.
