The Lakeside Hammers prepare for this coming Friday’s important home Sky Sports Elite League match against Wolverhampton by visiting Peterborough on Thursday. The Peterborough Panthers have made team changes since the Hammers last visited the East of England Showground in June in the Knockout Cup. On that occasion the Hammers roared to a comfortable 12 point victory.
The Hammers completed the double over the Peterborough Panthers on Friday evening by beating the Panthers for the second time in 24 hours to progress into the semi finals of the Elite League Knockout Cup. To further delight their supporters Swede Jonas Davidsson signed a full contact with the Club during the home leg at the Arena-Essex Raceway.
The Lakeside Hammers have no meetings this week but they are already preparing for next week when they have three important meetings. Next Monday, 16th June, they are away in a Sky Sports Elite League match against Eastbourne, which will be shown live on Sky Sports. This is a match that the Hammers Team Manager, Jon Cook, captain, Adam Shields, and Finnish International Joonas Kylmakorpi will be particularly keen to win as they have all been involved with the Sussex club in the past.
Friday evening's Eite League Speedway match at the Arena-Essex\Raceway between the Lakeside Hammers and Wolverhampton was called off less than two hours before the expected start time due to the track being waterlogged. Despite rain in the area for most of the day the Arena-Essex Raceway had remained dry until heavy rain hit the track around 5.45pm. After just 15 minutes the track had large puddles on it and the Club were faced with no option but to call the match off. This decision proved to be the correct one as the rain continued past the due start time and resulted in racing not being possible.
