Lewisham and Merton local highway authorities and their partners will share the first award of a new £4 million road safety grant, Dr Stephen Ladyman, Road Safety Minister, announced today. Lewisham will receive £179,000 for young drivers volunteer training and Merton receives £70,500 for child pedestrian training including community projects on safer mobility. The Road Safety Partnership Grant Scheme will provide funding to local highway authorities that are taking an innovative and collaborative approach to improving road safety.
The British Motorcyclists Federation is launching its biggest lobbying campaign ever this weekend in an attempt to stop the introduction of the draconian measures contained in the Third European Driving Licence Directive*.
Following a meeting with Transport Minister Dr Stephen Ladyman, the BMF has welcomed his department’s Road Safety Division’s action in writing to Local Authorities reminding them of the Government’s National Motorcycling Strategy.
