Prime July Date for 2009 British MotoGP

Donington Park has been given a prime mid-season date for the 2009 British Motorcycle Grand Prix – in the calendar announced by the FIM, the sport’s worldwide governing body, the Leicestershire circuit will host the tenth round of the premier series over the weekend of 24/25/26 July, a month later than this year’s record breaking event. Next year’s event will be the 23rd consecutive running of Britain’s rounds of the FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix at Donington Park, the first being held on August 2nd 1987 when Australian Wayne Gardner took the premier honours and the most recent, last month, won by Casey Stoner.

MotoGP’s Most Complete TV Coverage Ever

MotorSport Vision Takes Over BSB Championship

The World’s premier domestic motorcycle racing championship is in safe hands with the news that Jonathan Palmer’s MotorSport Vision Company has signed a ten year agreement with the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board to be responsible for the organisation and promotion of the British Superbike Championship with immediate effect. The championship has, since its re-launch in its current form in 1996, not only revitalised motorcycle racing in the UK with innovative promotions and television coverage but it has also played a key role in the career paths of riders, among them Troy Bayliss, Neil Hodgson and James Toseland, who subsequently graduated to World Champions, while others such as Shane Byrne moved into MotoGP.

Bradley Smith Provides Example For Upcoming Young British Riders

Bradley Smith became the youngest ever British rider to take a top three finish in the World 125cc Championship in the weekend’s French Grand Prix, at the same time becoming the first British rider since 1989 to claim a podium finish in this category. The 16 year old Oxfordshire schoolboy has been groomed for stardom at the Red Bull MotoGP Academy, run by Dorna, and is now in his second year riding for the Repsol Honda team, but, he spent the formative years of his short career in the British 125GP Championship.

Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup - It All Started With An Idea

In the spring of 2006, an idea sprung to life committed, ambitious and focused on an objective. Dorna, KTM and Red Bull decided on the biggest talent search in international motorcycle racing. Talented young British riders will again be given a career boost in a joint initiative between the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board and Dorna, the commercial rights holders of both the Bennetts British Superbike Championship and the World MotoGP Championship. The Dorna Academy Cup is a race within the main British 125GP Championship and is held at each round of the country’s premier motor sport series, the British Superbike Championship.

13 Round Championships Within Bennetts British Superbike Package

Metzeler Racetec will continue as the official tyre supplier and presenting sponsor of both the National Superstock and National Superstock Cup championships in a two year contract announced today by Dorna UK, the commercial rights holder of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship. Metzeler Racetec has been the official control tyre of these two heavily subscribed production racing championships since 2005 and the partnership will continue through both the 2007 and 2008 seasons.

Ilmor SRT X³ Debut - Estoril

MotoGP’s newest team Ilmor was officially launched on Thursday 12th October at a jam packed press conference in Estoril. The team, headed up by Mario Illien in conjunction with chassis designer Eskil Suter, unveiled the radical looking X³ in front of the international media as Ilmor make their debut at the Portuguese leg of the World Championship.

Anthony Rogers Wins Spanish Race Dates

Anthony Rogers is the latest upcoming British motorcycle racer to benefit from a scholarship ride, funded by Dorna, the commercial rights holders to the World MotoGP and the Bennetts British Superbike Championships, to race in the final two rounds of the Spanish 125cc Championship. The 16 year old from Smallburgh, near Norwich, has impressed Dorna executives with a series of strong performances in the ACU Academy Cup, which is in effect a championship within the main British 125GP Championship.

Cardoso Discovers Istanbul On A Boat Cruise

This Thursday afternoon, Jose Luis Cardoso, was invited by Dorna with other riders to make a boat cruise along the Bosphorus, the famous strait that separates Europe and Asia, between the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara. A mixture of past and present, and an opportunity for the Spanish rider to see some beauties of Istanbul, like the Ottoman Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque that is a masterpiece of the Ottoman Art and the Church of Saint Sophia, a splendid monument from the Christianity.
