Tough Weekend For Kawasaki Racing Team In Ulster
28 August 2006
The final count down to the FIM World Championship started at Desertmartin in Northern Ireland over the weekend, it proved to be a tough test for the Kawasaki pairing of Tanel Leok and Bas Verhoeven and they both struggled to come to terms with the rough and demanding red sands of Ulster. Heavy rain throughout the weekend made the beautiful red sand hard packed and the going was tough with lap times getting slower for almost the entire field.

Strijbos Consolidates 2nd In Mx1 Series
28 August 2006
Kevin Strijbos finished fourth overall today and increased his gap over Steve Ramon in the MX1 World Championship standings in front of 18, 243 spectators at a windy, cloudy and showery Desertmartin circuit for the Grand Prix of Northern Ireland and the 13th round of 15 in the 2006 FIM Motocross series. Desertmartin was its usual formidable, rough, rutted and treacherous self. A sandy and changeable course blending both high-speed with numerous dips and jumps, requiring both bravery and a degree of caution when attacking the huge lumps in the dark red sifting soil.

Race Report; Cairoli Takes Seventh Podium Of The Season
28 August 2006
World Champion Antonio Cairoli was third overall in the MX2 class at Desert Martin today for his second podium appearance in a row and seventh of the season. The Team Yamaha De Carli rider was 2nd and 7th for the bottom step of rostrum despite a crash in the second moto. The Sicilian completed a lonely race to second place in the initial race after Tyla Rattray had escaped. Unfortunately for the reigning number one, series leader Christophe Pourcel pushed through from a mediocre start to collect third and minimise any damage to his margin in the standings. Cairoli, who struggled with his suspension set-up on the rough and physical terrain, finally ended up giving his French rival two more points with a fall from third place on the second lap of Moto2, necessitating a hard trawl back into the top ten.
