The British Grand Prix started under bright sunshine which no one was expecting. The weather should remain the same for the weekend when Sebastien Pourcel will start the MX1 Grand Prix from pole for the fourth time this season.
Great Britain will play host to the sixth round of the FIM Motocross World series this weekend on the brand new course at Mallory Park, which was built inside the famous road racing facility. David Philippaerts leads the MX1 standings since the Portuguese Grand Prix while Tyla Rattray and Tony Cairoli are still battling tooth and nail for the MX2 lead, currently owned by the South African. In occasion of the British Grand Prix, the FIM Veterans’ Motocross World Cup will restart with the second of three rounds. Dutchman Toine van Dijk leads the points standings after Spain with home rider and last year’s Cup winner Dave Thorpe ready to fight back.
Mud-spitting, high-jumping and hard-crashing – this is the spectacular sport of Motocross in one of its most action-packed years. All eyes were on Britain’s Dave Thorpe as he attempted to defend his 500cc World Championship, but he wasn’t going to have it all his own way. After taking the race one win at the opening round, Thorpe was forced out of race two – and this would become the pattern for the year as the World Champion fought to retain his crown down to the wire.
