The competitors woke up yesterday morning with a clear sky and a very comfortable temperature. After the start from the Heroes'Square a liaison of 58 kilometer was scheduled. Cyril Despres was the first bike to ride of the podium.

Q8Oils Helps Team Digest Race Across Desert To Dakar

Team Digest riders Paul Knight & Dave Newman successfully completed the Heroes’ Legend race to Dakar on their Q8Oils supported Yamaha XT500, the same type used in the early Dakar rallies. Having covered more than 6,500 kilometres, their motorcycle & 4-wheel drive team raced from Paris to Dakar through France, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal, completing the gruelling competition in overall 21st place and 13th in their class - an impressive result for two riders with no previous experience of rallies or desert riding on a bike that is nearly 30 years old.

Helder is closely chased by Frenchman Michel Marchini, also riding a Yamaha WR450F. The Dakar has finished and the competitors have completed near on 8,000 kilometres on tracks, crossing Portugal, Morocco, Mauritania and Mali to finally reach Dakar, the capital of Sénégal. After many adventures, seven Team Honda Europe riders crossed the finish line at Lac Rose after a 16km special stage on the beach.

The Race Begins For KTM's Patricia

KTM is proud to be supporting Patricia Watson-Miller in this years Dakar Rally. Patricia’s rally began on Saturday 6th January, as she set off on her KTM 525 EXC with high hopes of top-level finish in the overall motorcycle event. Patricia is from the famous Schek family of Dakar riders. She was the first female motorcycle rider to finish the 2006 event, finishing 67th overall and is looking to emulate that remarkable achievement this year.

Setup Report - Yamaha Riders Control Dakar Before Hitting African Soil

Yamaha WR450F mounted riders have dominated the opening two stages that took the caravan from the start in the Portuguese capital Lisbon to the ferry crossing bound for Africa at the Spanish harbor of Malaga. Portuguese enduro stars Helder Rodrigues and Ruben Faria won a stage each to lead the bike category into Morocco.

KTM Riders Line Up Favourite Riders

When the 29th Dakar 2007 gets underway on Saturday in Lisbon, eight KTM factory team riders make an impressive line-up, including the absolute favourites for the race that many see as the ultimate test of man and machine. Marc Coma (Repsol KTM, Spain) is the title holder after defeating his close rival Cyril Despres (Gauloises KTM, France) when Cyril, winner in 2005, broke a collarbone last year. Coma’s team-mates Giovanni Sala and Jordi Viladoms make up the Repsol line-up while Isidre Esteve Pujol, Frans Verhoeven and David Casteu race with Gauloisses KTM. American Chris Blais, fourth last year races alone for Red Bull KTM of the USA.
