Team Battles Through First Day of Qualifying

The hard work continued for the HANNspree Ten Kate Honda Superbike team today as they came into action on the first day of qualifying in Brno. Carlos Checa spent his two session chasing the optimum set-up for his bike but struggled to find traction on the new surface of the Brno track. Checa went out in the free practice session using a different swing arm, but switched back to the regular KR component after the much anticipated improvement on the rear grip stayed out. A fastest time of 2'00.424 today sets him back at fifteenth place after the first official qualifying.

Ducati Xerox Riders Take Provisional Places on Front Two Rows

In dry conditions all three of the Ducati Xerox riders, Bayliss, Fabrizio and Canepa, made a strong start to their campaign for victory this weekend at the Automotodrom of Brno. After a few tyre issues this morning for most of the Superbike riders due to the lack of grip on track after yesterday's rainfall, the field got back to business in this afternoon's first qualifying session. At the conclusion of that session it was local rider Smrz who had registered the fastest lap on his privateer Ducati bike. Troy Bayliss and his factory 1098 F08 recorded the third fastest time to take a provisional front row place on the grid while his two team-mates Michel Fabrizio and Niccolo' Canepa (the latter riding the F09 development machine) achieved the seventh and eighth fastest lap times respectively.

Corser an Early Contender on Day One

Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) enjoyed a competitive start to his Brno race weekend by scoring second best time behind local favourite Jakub Smrz, on the recently resurfaced 5.403km Brno circuit. Corser's early pace has already seen him under the previous circuit best, with one more qualifying session plus Superpole on Saturday to determine his final grid position. Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) was held back in his early laps by a niggling fault with his machine's electronics package and lost him track time that held back his ultimate provisional qualifying position to 12th.

Fonsi Quickest of Suzuki Trio

Team Suzuki Alstare rider Fonsi Nieto finished the first day of qualifying at Brno today with the sixth fastest time and ended the quickest of the Belgium based squad. Team Alstare Suzuki rider Max Neukirchner ended with the ninth quickest time, but Suzuki Alstare rider Yukio Kagayama is still suffering problems with his left hand and could only manage eleventh. Local hero Jakub Smrz (Ducati) sent the home fans wild by topping the standings at the end of today's qualifying session. Second is Aussie Troy Corser (Yamaha), ahead of fellow countryman Troy Bayliss (Ducati), with Max Biaggi (Ducati) fourth.

Yamaha Riders Out to Score Big in Brno

After a successful two-day test at Vallelunga between 8th and 9th July both Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) are fully prepared to meet the challenge of a resurfaced Brno circuit on Sunday 20th July. The 9th round of the 2008 season sees Haga arrive in fourth place in the overall championship fight, only six points ahead of his team-mate Corser. Now the most effective team-mates in the field once again, Haga has won four races so far, while Corser has been desperately unfortunate not have taken at least one win among his six podiums. Each rider has recorded successes at Brno, with Corser having won three races there and Haga one. Each took a Brno victory in 2005, Corser the first and Haga the second. The Yamaha duo traded the fastest lap in the two Czech races last year.

Superbike World Championship Heads to Brno

The Superbike World Championship arrives in Brno this weekend for the ninth round of the series, at the Czech Automotodrom. The HANNspree Ten Kate Honda team enters the Czech round leading the Supersport Championship and currently sitting third in the WSB standings. Andrew Pitt has dominated the last rounds of the Supersport series but team mate Jonathan Rea is eager to show his full potential and make his contribution to the impressive Ten Kate Honda tally. The British rider was slightly disappointed with his third place in Misano and is very keen to claim his first victory, starting at the Brno track this weekend.

SBK Reaches #500 Mark with Czech Republic Round at Brno

The Superbike World Championship notches up an important benchmark this coming weekend at the Automotodrom Brno circuit in the Czech Republic as the production-based racing series reaches the #500 mark with Sunday’s race two. The championship got underway at Donington Park on April 3rd, 1988 and this weekend’s round at Brno will see races #499 and #500. Even though the Czech Republic Round is the 252nd in the championship’s history, on four occasions (1988 Le Mans, 2001 Phillip Island, 2005 Imola, 2007 Silverstone), only race one was held due to inclement weather conditions.

Team Alstare Refreshed And Ready For Brno

One of the best-loved circuits on the calendar, Brno, is the scene for the next round of this year’s Superbike World Championship. The undulating circuit, situated in the Czech Republic is a demanding 5.503 kilometre track and will once again provide a stern test for all riders. Last year, Team Suzuki Alstare rider Yukio Kagayama took a superb third place in the first race and will be hoping for more of the same this weekend. Recently the track has been resurfaced and the grip improved so the first day of practice and qualifying will be new territory for all riders and technicians.

Hammers Keep Focused

Despite there being no action at the Arena-Essex Raceway this Friday the Hammers riders are keeping fully focused as they now look to face Poole in a vital top of the table clash the following Friday, 30th May. Following their superb victory over Eastbourne last Friday, which saw the Hammers come from behind to claim the important two League points, the team had expected a relatively easy couple of weeks. However that has all changed following a further amendment to the fixtures that now sees them revert back to facing the Poole Pirates, who were originally lined up to be their opposition on 30th May.

Brno Triumphs In The Annual IRTA ‘Best Grand Prix’ Poll

The magnificently sculptured Brno circuit, home of the Czech Republic Grand Prix, topped the IRTA ‘Best Grand Prix’ poll for the 2007 MotoGP season. Set in the Moravian hills 200 km to the East of Prague the city of Brno is a centre of engineering excellence and automoto competition has been a constant feature for 50 years and first hosted international motorcycle races on the fearsome 13.4 km closed road course.

Ducati Corse’s Casey Stoner continued in Brno where he left off in Laguna Seca the previous month with a dominant pole to flag victory in the Czech Republic Grand Prix last weekend. The Australian rider’s performance scored him a seventh win of the season to further extend his championship lead to an impressive sixty points. The only time during the season so far that Stoner has relinquished his grip on the championship was after Jerez GP back in March.

Fiat Yamaha Complete Testing Programme

Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards rounded off two days of intensive work at Brno today, following Sunday's Czech Grand Prix. After heavy rain yesterday evening the track was still damp this morning, which delayed the start of action, but conditions improved throughout the day and both Rossi and Edwards managed to complete their planned testing programmes. Once again both riders concentrated mainly on tyre testing, trying a variety of new material with Michelin. Rossi also put in laps with the new-specification engine, which he tried for the first time yesterday. The team now have a week's break before they head to Misano for the San Marino Grand Prix.

Development Continues For Kawasaki At Brno

The Kawasaki Racing Team today concluded a successful two-day test at the Brno circuit, with Randy de Puniet and Anthony West both completing an extensive assessment programme despite rain bringing a premature end to testing yesterday. The focus of the two-day test was on evaluating the latest evolution of the Ninja ZX-RR engine, designed to improve the top speed of Kawasaki's ever more competitive MotoGP machine without losing any of the driveability that is so important to fast lap times in the new 800cc era.

Repsol Honda Team Wraps Up Brno Test

The Repsol Honda Team completed its two-day test at Brno on Tuesday with Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa winding up a useful programme of engine, chassis set-up and Michelin tyre evaluations. With overnight rain slow to clear, the track remained damp in the morning, but once the surface dried the assembled MotoGP field could begin work. With conditions less favourable than yesterday very few riders improved their times today, though both Repsol Honda men deemed the day’s testing profitable. Hayden completed 72 laps, making shock and fork adjustments before trying a batch of new Michelin tyres. After yesterday’s engine and chassis tests, Pedrosa focussed on tyre testing today, completing 59 laps of the 5.403km (3.357-mile) Brno circuit.

Good Form Continues For Rizla Suzuki At Brno Test

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP has concluded its two-day test at Brno in the Czech Republic with promising results, following on from the team’s excellent GP performance. John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen were both eager to get back on track after their impressive displays in last Sunday’s race, which saw them finish second and fifth respectively, and the pair got down to a lot of hard work to improve their machines in readiness for the rest of the season.

Stoner & Capirossi Satisfied With Tests

On the final day of post-race testing at Brno, Ducati Marlboro Team Casey Stoner and Loris Capirossi worked on machine set-up and tested some new Bridgestone race tyres. This morning the track was damp after yesterday's downpour but it improved during the day, allowing both riders to successfully complete the work planned for the tests. Stoner lapped consistently at a very good pace, then bettered his own fastest race lap and broke the lap record which had been unbeaten on Sunday. Capirossi, among other things, tested two new Bridgestone 16-inch rears that he found promising but in need of further development.

Fiat Yamaha Push On With Intensive Testing

After the disappointment of yesterday's Czech Grand Prix, it was back to the drawing board today for Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards as they embarked on the traditional two-day test at Brno, alongside almost the entire MotoGP paddock. The sun shone until mid-afternoon when it clouded over, eventually giving way to rain at about 4.30 pm. The main focus of the test for both riders is tyre testing with Michelin and they worked through a variety of new material today as they seek to find a better package for the remaining six races, following recent issues. Rossi also got the chance to complete some laps with a new-specification engine, with which he will continue working tomorrow.

Pramac D’Antin Team Test Positive In Brno

Today, almost all the MotoGP riders remained in Brno to test tires and new parts in order to continue improving the bikes for the next World Championship races, and also for the 2008 season. For the Pramac d’Antin Team it was a very positive day with both riders able to gather important data to use during the following Grand Prix races. Alex Barros was focused mainly on testing Bridgestone tires, searching for the right balance that would give him confidence and speed. Barros continued lowering his times throughout the day, and is ready for the next GP in Misano, Italy.

Hayden & Pedrosa Put In The Miles At Brno Test

The Repsol Honda Team remained at Brno on Monday for the first of two days of testing following yesterday’s Grand Prix of the Czech Republic. Fresh from their third and fourth place finishes, Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa were joined by most of the MotoGP field as the factory Honda pair began a full schedule of testing, including further analysis of the RC212V ‘s updated chassis and the latest evolution of the 800cc engine.

Positive Testing For The Ducati Marlboro Team

The day after the fantastic victory of Casey Stoner in the Czech Republic GP, the Ducati Marlboro Team were out on the track again for a supplementary two-days testing session at the Brno Circuit. Stoner and Capirossi were able to make the best use of the time available before the rain put an early end to the test at 4:00 p.m.
