Kawasaki's Randy Races To Best Result Yet In Istanbul

Randy de Puniet finished today's Turkish Grand Prix in eighth place, his best result to date since moving up to the MotoGP class with Kawasaki at the start of the 2006 season. De Puniet's race didn't get off to the best start, after difficulties getting his Ninja ZX-RR off the line dropped him back to 13th place at turn one, but he recovered quickly as he chased hard to catch the group of riders ahead of him.

First Lap Incident Costs Rizla's Vermeulen Podium Challenge

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racer Chris Vermeulen was involved in a first lap crash at today’s Turkish Grand Prix, almost definitely costing him a place on the podium - his race pace after he and rejoined the race was as good as any other rider on the track. Vermeulen was caught up in a four rider crash, caused by Kawasaki’s Olivier Jacque and also involving Dani Pedrosa and Colin Edwards. Vermeulen’s bike was lying on top of Pedrosa’s and the determined Australian dragged it off, got back on and re-joined the race. The Rizla Suzuki GSV-R sustained some damage in the accident but Vermeulen battled back to secure 11th place at the end of the race, setting the fastest time on the penultimate lap. The accident cost Vermeulen over 22 seconds from start to finish and his final race time was only 20 seconds off second place.

Rizla Suzuki's Hopkins Crashes Whilst On Podium Pace

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racer John Hopkins saw his hopes of a podium dashed today as he crashed out from fourth place during the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez. Hopkins had been involved in a 13-lap battle with World Champion Nicky Hayden, and had just managed to get past him and begin to chase down the front three when disaster struck on lap 17. Suzuki’s Anglo-American star lost grip at the front end of the bike as a gust of wind caused him to run wide on a fast right-hand corner. He was unhurt in the crash, and although he re-mounted his battered GSV-R, was unable to collect any championship points as he brought his bike home in 19th place.

Breaking News - Rally

KTM factory team rally rider Isidre Esteve Pujol of Spain has suffered severe injuries from a high speed crash while competing in the Spanish All Terrain Rally. Spanish doctors have confirmed that the 34-year-old Dakar Rally competitor has severe injuries to the seventh vertebrae and a number of broken ribs, one of which punctured a lung. Initially the rider’s injuries were life threatening but he is now out of danger and able to speak, according to Pit Beirer, KTM Offroad Racing Director.

Sixth For Team Alstare's Max, Hospital For Yukio

The first day of qualifying for the second round of the Superbike World Championship at Phillip Island was a dramatic one for Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra. Joint series leader Max Biaggi finished with the sixth fastest time of the day, just ahead of team mate Yukio. But Yukio had a heavy crash in the afternoon session is unlikely to take any further part in proceedings. At first, it was suspected that Yukio had broken his left collarbone, a few ribs and damaged his spleen in the process but after he was helicoptered to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne there was some doubt about the extent of his injuries, so the medics there decided to carry out further tests. All hopes are that the injuries are not as bad as originally thought.

Carmichael Takes Podium After Crash

Team Makita Suzuki’s Ricky Carmichael raced back from a crash to take second place overall at Saturday night’s World Supercross Championship opener in Toronto, Canada. The reigning AMA and Motocross Champion dropped to 18th position after falling in his fight for the front with Nick Wey (Honda), but mounted a heroic challenge aboard his new RM-Z450.

Fortune Strikes Its Final Blow At Valencia For Camel Yamaha

Camel Yamaha Team rider Valentino Rossi slid out of the Grand Prix of Valencia today and lost his grip on the MotoGP World Championship for the first time in six years on the final day of an implausibly dramatic season. Nicky Hayden (Honda) lifted the title after claiming third place behind surprise winner Troy Bayliss and Loris Capirossi (both Ducati), with Rossi recovering to cross the line in 13th place but missing out on the title by just five points.

Hard Day For Repsol Honda Team As Hayden And Pedrosa Crash Out

Nicky Hayden’s championship chances took a blow today as both Repsol Honda riders ended up in the gravel after a coming together on the 5th lap of the Portuguese Grand Prix. Though obviously very disappointed to have lost his lead in the World Championship, the 25-year-old American star goes to the final round at Valencia still in with a chance of taking the title. He now sits eight points behind Valentino Rossi, who finished in second place today.

Difficult Start For Fortuna Honda Riders

The first day of action in the penultimate round of the season proved to be a difficult one for the Fortuna Honda riders as the Grand Prix of Portugal got underway at Estoril. A heavy fall at the start of the afternoon session left Marco Melandri out of action and with plenty of set-up work still to do tomorrow. The Team Gresini rider ran wide in turn 9 and crashed, suffering a contusion to his left knee and a light trauma to his neck. X-rays carried out immediately in the Clinica Mobile ruled out a fracture but he was taken to hospital for a CAT scan as a precaution. Toni Elias also had a tough time despite lapping well in the morning. He also suffered the setback of a crash, in turn one, and could only manage the eleventh fastest time although he is confident of improving on that when the practice action resumes tomorrow.

Curtain Third Despite Early Crash

Championship leader Kevin Curtain ended today's first practice in third position, despite suffering a crash at a cold and grey Magny Cours circuit. The Australian crashed at Adelaide corner on his seventh lap of the afternoon qualifying session but, despite completing just a handful of laps, Curtain remained one of only three riders to break the 1:44 bracket.

Lanzi Goes Third Quickest For Ducati Xerox In France, New Champion Bayliss Eighth

The Ducati Xerox Team riders placed third and eighth in Friday first qualifying for the final round of the 2006 World Superbike Championship at Magny-Cours in France. Lorenzo Lanzi was third quickest in the one-hour session, recording a time of 1 minute 40.821 seconds, to line up on the provisional front row behind Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha) and James Toseland (Honda), while newly-crowned champion Troy Bayliss was eighth fastest with a time of 1m41.006s. Troy and Lorenzo had a crash during the opening qualifying session but were both unhurt.

Carmichael Injured In San Bernardino

Newly-crowned AMA Motocross Champion Ricky Carmichael is being flown back to Florida after crashing out of the opening moto at today’s final-round AMA Motocross Championship round at Glen Helen Raceway in California. Carmichael suffered injuries to his shoulder as he led Kawasaki’s James Stewart.

Capirossi Returns Home - Gibernau To Undergo Collarbone Operation Tomorrow

The latest updates on the condition of Loris Capirossi and Sete Gibernau following yesterday's horrific first corner crash at the Circuit de Catalunya have brought a sigh of relief to the MotoGP world. Injuries Blight Weekend For Rizla Suzuki

Rizla Suzuki’s James Haydon is in hospital undergoing medical examination after a high speed crash during today’s second race at the seventh round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Snetterton in Norfolk. James’s injuries followed Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne’s high speed crash on Friday, which left him unconscious and unable to take part in the racing. Suzuki privateer Superbike racer Jon Kirkham stood in for Shakey at short notice.

Disastrous Day For Ducati Marlboro Men

Ducati Marlboro Team riders Loris Capirossi and Sete Gibernau had a disastrous day at Catalunya today, both men crashing out in a turn-one multiple pile-up. The crash, which claimed a total of five riders, left Capirossi battered and bruised, with Gibernau suffering concussion and a fractured left collarbone. Marco Melandri, the only other victim of the first-corner melee to sustain injury, suffered concussion and a dislocated shoulder.

Kawasaki's Nakano Unfortunate Victim Of Catalunya Chaos

Kawasaki's Shinya Nakano was excluded from the Grand Prix of Catalunya, after falling foul of the regulations during the third attempt to start today's 25-lap race. Nakano got a lightning start first time out to steal third place into the first turn, but his efforts were wasted when a collision between Ducati teammates, Sete Gibernau and Loris Capirossi started a chain reaction that saw five riders crash on the entry to turn one, and forced officials to red flag the race.

Truck Crash Causes Setback For Kawasaki

The Kawasaki Racing Team's preparations for the coming MotoGP season suffered a setback on Monday, when the team's race transporter was involved in a road traffic accident while travelling from Barcelona to Jerez. Just two hours after leaving Barcelona, the Kawasaki race transporter was buffeted by ferocious winds as it travelled along the highway around Peniscola, forcing the transporter to leave the road and onto uneven ground, where it toppled over at speed.
