Consultation & Motorcycle Prejudice

The Motorcycle Action Group (MAG UK) has been invited by the Department of Transport to comment on the Government's Draft Local Transport Bill. The Local Transport Bill is a key part of the Government's strategy to meet the transport challenges of not only today, but in ten and twenty year’s time. The three key areas of the strategy, addresses public transport, the governance for managing local transport and the issue of road pricing. MAG have worked relentlessly to persuade Government of the advantages and benefits which motorcycling offers to ease traffic congestion, improve the environment as well as enhancing social mobility and the economic prosperity of the nation.

Motorcycling to Face Congestion Charges

The Motorcycle Action Group (MAG UK) says that proposals contained in Manchester’s congestion charging scheme to charge motorcycles are the thin end of the wedge as cities in the UK wait in line to implement future national road pricing plans. MAG is amazed that the authorities in Manchester have even considered charging motorcycles, when the London congestion charging scheme has proved successful and beneficial to congestion busting motorcycles.

Satelis 125cc Compressor Delivers Accelerated Pleasure

The new Satelis 125 Compressor is a congestion-busting vehicle in every sense. It is exempt from the London Congestion Charge and will keep ahead of the traffic in any city with ease thanks to its super charged engine. More Motorcycle Parking in the West End?

The Motorcycle Action Group (MAG) is encouraging all motorcyclists who ride into the City of Westminster to respond to a web-based consultation on motorcycle parking. The consultation, which closes on the 30th April, focuses on whether there is sufficient provision for motorcycle parking, whether motorcycles should pay for parking, whether secure parking facilities should be provided and whether motorcycles should pay the congestion charge.

Congestion Charge Threat to Motorcycles

The Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, was forced to issue a statement to confirm the continuing exemption to congestion charging currently enjoyed by motorcycles and scooters. The threat to remove this exemption was revealed by the Evening Standard.

The Congestion Solution

As the UK road-charging debate rumbles on, the British Motorcyclists Federation has welcomed the statement by London Mayor Ken Livingstone that motorcycles and scooters will remain exempt from London’s congestion charging. The statement followed a story in London’s Evening Standard reporting on trials being carried out on automatic ‘tag and beacon’ systems for congestion charging whereby fixed beacons would record cars, fitted with an electronic tag, as they entered the charging zone. The RAC Foundation commented that this could mean the end of a dispensation for powered two wheelers (PTWs) as the current camera technology cannot record them, but a tag and beacon system could.

With the Congestion Charge now costing a whopping £8, the money a commuter would save for a normal working year in London if they didn't have to pay the charge is £1920.
