Sensational Double for Byrne

The 2008 British Superbike Champion Shane Byrne scored a double victory in his final outing for the Airwaves Ducati team this weekend. Teammate Leon Camier followed a 5th in race one with a hard fought 3rd in race two, helping Ducati to secure the manufacturer‚s title by 35 points. After losing a place at the start of the first race, Shane took the lead on lap 2. Posting the fastest time of the race with a 46.194, he eventually took the chequered flag nearly 2 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Leon got away well from 6th and soon made his way up to 5th where he would remain.

Byrne on The Front Row for Airwaves Ducati

Airwaves Ducati rider Shane Byrne will start on the front row for round 7 of the British Superbike Championship. Shane achieved the 2nd fastest time in qualifying at Oulton Park today. Team mate Leon Camier will start from row 8. After a wet practice session in the morning, which both Airwaves Ducati riders decided to sit out, qualifying was to remain dry for the full 50 minutes. Shane pushed hard throughout the session and his fastest lap time of 1:36.590 came on lap 22 of 24.

Airwaves Ducati leave the first race of 2008 1st and 4th in the championship, after Shane Byrne won race one and came 2nd in race two. Leon Camier started his season well with a 4th and 5th place finish. In the first of the two 20 lap races Shane Byrne had dropped a few places from his pole position start but moved through the field, taking the lead on lap 13. He pulled away in the final laps to take his first win for the Airwaves Ducati team. Having struggled early on in the race Leon Camier was in 5th by lap 15. He held off a number of challenges to cross the line in a hard fought 5th place.

Young Rider To ‘Kick Up a Gear’ With Airwaves Scholarship

Leon Morris (21), from Stockbridge, Hampshire, who races for the Brookspeed Moto Rapido team in the National Superstock 1000 Championship, has received a huge boost ahead of his hometown round at Thruxton, after being selected for the ‘Airwaves Superbike Scholarship’.

GSE Racing will be back in the British Superbike Championship next season with Shane Byrne and Leon Camier aboard the Airwaves Ducati 1098R. Wrigley’s Airwaves, who have supported the team since 2005, will continue as title sponsors. Following speculation regarding the future of GSE Racing it has been announced that former British Superbike Champion Shane Byrne, who came 5th in this years championship, will be riding alongside 21 year old Leon Camier in a new look Airwaves Ducati team.

Airwaves Ducati One-Two At Oulton Park

Airwaves Ducati achieved their first one-two of the season, and their 11th since joining the GSE Racing team today. In a thrilling first race, both Airwaves Ducati riders held the lead for a time before Gregorio Lavilla took 1st place from his team mate. Leon repeated his 2nd position finish in race two, with Greg finishing a hard fought 4th place. Although the grey skies threatened it remained dry for the first of the day’s two 17 lap races. Both Greg and Leon had good starts and were in 2nd and 3rd respectively at the end of lap 1. Greg then took the lead from Kiyonari at the end of lap 5, and the top three riders moved away from the rest of the field. In a well worked manoeuvre Leon overtook Kiyonari to move into 2nd, before taking the lead from his team mate 2 laps later. Greg then re-took the lead on the penultimate lap to take the chequered flag, with Leon close behind in 2nd.

Airwaves Ducati Test At Cadwell

On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week the Airwaves Ducati team carried out a scheduled test at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire. With air temperatures of 24 degrees and the track at 38 degrees the team enjoyed glorious weather for the mid season test during which Leon completed 167 laps equivalent to 585km and Gregorio covered 118 laps or 413km. Dunlop were in attendance to provide test tyres and technical support along with GSE Racing’s Ohlins technician for detailed suspension improvements.

Rain Stops Play At Mondello

Round 5 of the British Superbike Championship was cancelled due to appalling weather conditions at Mondello Park today. Rain fell all day and after a number of delays the riders went out for a 15 minute warm up in very wet conditions at 11.30am. During the warm up a number of riders succumbed to the wet track and crashed, including Airwaves Ducati rider Leon Haslam who fell on lap 4, however he was unhurt. Gregorio Lavilla appeared unaffected by the conditions and set the quickest lap time of the session, 2:01.403, 0.9 seconds faster than any other rider.

Q8Oils Help Airwaves Ducati To Beat The Rain And Cold At Donington

Airwaves Ducati have a comfortable lead in the Bennett's British Superbike Championship following a rain-soaked Round Two at Donington Park. Gregorio Lavilla showed his class in difficult cold and wet conditions, setting a new lap record of 1:31.243 in race one. The team finished the day with a first and third place in Race One and a second and third in Race Two.

Round two at Donington Park was an outstanding success for the Airwaves Ducati team with a first and third place in race one and a second and third in race two. Gregorio Lavilla showed his class on the Derbyshire circuit setting a new lap record of 1:31.243 in race one.

Airwaves Ducati On Pole Position At Donington Park

The Airwaves Ducati team made a promising start to the second round at Donington Park in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship. Gregorio Lavilla will start tomorrow’s race on pole position with his team mate also on the front row in third. The mornings free practice session allowed the team to overcome the technical issues suffered on the first day of practice to finish in first and fourth place. The 2005 BSB champion, Lavilla, was consistently fast and top of the standings for much of the 50 minute session, setting his fastest time of 1:32.036 on his penultimate lap. Leon Haslam set his quickest lap of 1:32.929 on lap 15 to finish fourth behind Rea and Byrne.

Airwaves Ducati Set For Round Two At Donington

After an impressive performance at Brands Hatch in round one of the British Superbike Championship the Airwaves Ducati riders look set to continue their form in round two at Donington Park this weekend. Both riders had good practice sessions today in dry conditions with Gregorio Lavilla finishing top in the first of today’s two 50 minute practices, with a fastest time of 1:32.529. Leon Haslam finished in ninth place with a time of 1:34.009. The two riders who split Lavilla and Haslam in the championship standings, Kiyonari and Harris, finished in fifth and third place respectively.

Airwaves Ducati 1 & 2 On The Grid

The new qualifying format meant the Airwaves Ducati riders returned to the track for a third free practice session this morning to be followed by a single qualifying session in the afternoon. In free practice both riders juggled the top spot between them, consistently riding low 46 second laps. The session ended with Haslam first 46.035 and Lavilla second with a best lap of 46.094.
