Roberts Has Some Fun For Final Race
03 November 2007 | 1 Comment
Kurtis Roberts will start tomorrow's GP of Valencia from the sixth row of the grid, after qualifying in 19th position for the final race of the year. At a favourite track, however, he hopes to be able to improve on that, to add more points to his season's score. Kurtis, the second son of legendary triple champion Kenny Roberts, is riding a Honda-powered hybrid, with a made-in-England special chassis, designed and built by Team Roberts, the only independent constructor in the MotoGP class.

More Knowledge But No Points For Team Roberts
21 October 2007
Sole Team Roberts rider Kurtis Roberts finished 20th in today's Malaysian GP, pressing on and experimenting with settings after losing any chance of points when he ran off the track after six of 21 laps of the 5.548-km Sepang circuit outside Kuala Lumpur. The gravel-trap excursion came after yet another of the front-wheel slides that have plagued his weekend. He managed to rejoin, although way out of touch.

Good Fight But No Points For Roberts In Australia
14 October 2007
Phillip Island, Australia - October 14, 2007: Kurtis Roberts had one of the best races since stepping in to his father's team mid-season, fighting to the finish. But a top-15 points-scoring result was just out of his reach, after losing out at the end to Yamaha-mounted Makoto Tamada. The younger son of racing legend Kenny Roberts finished 17th, less than three seconds from the points.

Search For Grip Keeps Kurtis Guessing
13 October 2007
Kurtis Roberts will start tomorrow's Australian GP from the seventh row of the grid, after placing 19th in qualifying, run in the only fully dry hour at the weather-hit event at this scenic seaside circuit. Cold conditions, strong winds and frequent rain showers have made two days of practice fraught, conditions changing sometimes from one lap to the next. The final qualifying hour was dry, but run in a brisk 16 degrees with track temperature at only 24 degrees.

Short Day For Roberts In Japan
23 September 2007
Kurtis Roberts had a short afternoon at today's Japanese GP, pulling in with tire problems on both of his Honda-powered Team Roberts KR212V hybrids on a day of changing weather at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit. The 15th round of the World Championship featured flag to flag racing, with riders starting the 24 lap race on rain tires before pitting to change motorcycles as a dry line developed on the track north of Tokyo. But from the very start, Roberts was in trouble.

Roberts Frustrated In The Japanese Sun
22 September 2007
Kurtis Roberts struggled in the blistering sunshine of final qualifying for Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix on the Twin Ring Motegi Circuit, a track that doesn't suit the Honda-powered KR212V hybrid. Lacking the acceleration needed for the track's many slow corners, Roberts qualified 21st for Sunday's fifteenth round of the MotoGP World Championship. Though he qualified on the back row of the grid, it wasn't for lack of effort. The youngest son of the three-time 500cc World Champion and team owner crashed in the morning practice entering turn five. Roberts found early in the weekend that the lack of acceleration was problematic and he was keenly aggressive on the brakes. But his aggression ended up putting him on the ground.

First-Lap Incident Puts Roberts In The Dirt
02 September 2007
Kurtis Roberts finished 15th in today's Misano and Rimini GP, adding to his tally of World Championship points but ending the afternoon disappointed after falling innocent victim to a first-lap incident. Improving performance during qualifying meant that the 28-year-old American, son of legendary triple champion and team principal Kenny Roberts, had expected to battle with some of the non-factory Hondas. Instead he found himself way off the back, his only companion top factory rider Nicky Hayden, also put off the track. The incident was triggered by Kawasaki's Randy de Puniet, who crashed into second Honda factory star Dani Pedrosa on the second corner. Both went flying into the gravel; Kurtis and Hayden followed along, although neither fell off.

Race-Tyre Pace Gives Reasons For Optimism
01 September 2007
Kurtis Roberts qualified 18th for tomorrow's San Marino/Rimini GP here today, but was confident that he could improve on that position for the race, after running strongly on race tyres, but failing to improve significantly on the crucial qualifying tyres. The difficulty was caused by the bumps on the revised and resurfaced Misano circuit, back on the MotoGP calendar for the first time in 14 years, and now reversed to run in clockwise. The track is bumpy, and the higher speeds allowed by qualifying tyres upset the Honda-powered hybrid to the extent that the son of team owner Kenny Roberts had to back off.

Kurtis Gets Back To Scoring At Brno
20 August 2007
Kurtis Roberts finished 15th in today's Czech Republic GP, adding to his championship points tally after overcoming a poor start as the lights turned green. Hopes of early improvement on his 17th-place grid position evaporated when the engine bogged down on the line, and the England-built Honda-powered hybrid KR212V was last at the end of the first of 22 laps of the 5.403km Brno circuit. Once the engine settled, the younger son of team principal and triple World Champion Kenny Roberts was able to get down to work, picking up two places on the second lap, then another on lap six, putting himself in the points again. All race long, however, Kurtis was fighting front-and rear-wheel slides, as well as a shortage of acceleration and top speed. At the finish, he was a lonely 15th.

Roberts Seeks The Combination For Improvement
18 August 2007
Kurtis Roberts qualified on the sixth row of the grid for tomorrow's Czech Republic GP, after two days of searching for the right combination to tame the turns on the 5.403km Brno circuit. Roberts rode the latest version of the England-made chassis for the Team Roberts KR212V Honda-powered hybrid, and reported a clear improvement. But a relative lack of horsepower on the long and hilly circuit, as well as other issues, conspired to keep him from getting into the thick of the action, as MotoGP gets back to work after the long summer break.

Kurtis Roberts Doubles His Points At Sachsenring
15 July 2007
Kurtis Roberts doubled his points total for the season by finishing in the points for a third successive GP, with his best result of the year in the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring. Roberts, riding as substitute for his elder brother Kenny Junior in only his fifth race, had a few small problems on the Team Roberts' framed, Honda-powered hybrid on the mostly left-handed course in former East German state of Saxony. Though the team is looking forward to a new chassis for Roberts' home grand prix in a week's time, Roberts worked with what he had and steadily moved up the order as others fell by the wayside.

Roberts Encouraged By Late Session Progress
15 July 2007
Kurtis Roberts, riding in only fifth MotoGP event since returning mid-season, qualified 19th for Sunday's German Grand Prix, though he was encouraged by progress the team made with the front end of the Team Roberts KR212V late in the session. Roberts, who is substituting for his older brother Kenny, set the time with his next to last lap, as he found new confidence in the front end. Instead of chattering, the front tire gave renewed adhesion and allowed the youngest son of the three-time 500cc World Champion to discover new lines on his best lap of the tortuous 2.28-mile Sachsenring, in the former East German state of Saxony. If the solution can be confirmed in the Sunday morning warm-up, Roberts is hopeful of moving up through the field.
