Rizla Suzuki Hoping For No Chinese Puzzles

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP travels to Shanghai in China hoping that the strong race performance at the last round in Turkey can develop into podium results. John Hopkins scored an exciting sixth place in Istanbul last week and will certainly be looking to improve on that - and last year’s fourth at Shanghai – when he takes to the track for round four of the MotoGP World Championship on Sunday 6th May. Hopkins qualified on the front row of the grid at last season’s race and will certainly be planning to emulate that this coming weekend.

First Lap Incident Costs Rizla's Vermeulen Podium Challenge

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racer Chris Vermeulen was involved in a first lap crash at today’s Turkish Grand Prix, almost definitely costing him a place on the podium - his race pace after he and rejoined the race was as good as any other rider on the track. Vermeulen was caught up in a four rider crash, caused by Kawasaki’s Olivier Jacque and also involving Dani Pedrosa and Colin Edwards. Vermeulen’s bike was lying on top of Pedrosa’s and the determined Australian dragged it off, got back on and re-joined the race. The Rizla Suzuki GSV-R sustained some damage in the accident but Vermeulen battled back to secure 11th place at the end of the race, setting the fastest time on the penultimate lap. The accident cost Vermeulen over 22 seconds from start to finish and his final race time was only 20 seconds off second place.

High Hopes For Rizla Suzuki In Turkey

John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen will start tomorrow’s Grand Prix of Turkey from either end of the third row of the grid, as the two Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racers qualified in seventh and ninth respectively. Both Suzuki men were regularly amongst the fastest riders on race tyres with Vermeulen clocking the third quickest time and Hopkins the sixth in this afternoon’s session, before all competitors started using qualifying tyres.

Rizla Suzuki On The Pace At Istanbul Park

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racer John Hopkins clocked the third fastest time during today’s free practice sessions for Sunday’s Grand Prix of Turkey. Hopkins (1’55.062, 34 laps) consistently improved his times throughout the day and has identified some alterations that he and his crew will be working on overnight to make the latest 800cc GSV-R perform even better tomorrow.

Rizla Suzuki Looking For Turkish Delights In Istanbul

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racers Chris Vermeulen and John Hopkins will be back in action for the first time in three weeks when the MotoGP circus roars into Istanbul next weekend. Vermeulen qualified in pole position for last year’s Turkish Grand Prix and will be looking to emulate that feat this year. The Australian star knows that he must do be better in qualifying to enable him to capitalise on his impressive race performances. In the first two rounds in Qatar and Spain Vermeulen qualified in 13th and 14th places, but raced to seventh and ninth respectively.

Rizla Suzuki's Hopkins Crashes Whilst On Podium Pace

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racer John Hopkins saw his hopes of a podium dashed today as he crashed out from fourth place during the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez. Hopkins had been involved in a 13-lap battle with World Champion Nicky Hayden, and had just managed to get past him and begin to chase down the front three when disaster struck on lap 17. Suzuki’s Anglo-American star lost grip at the front end of the bike as a gust of wind caused him to run wide on a fast right-hand corner. He was unhurt in the crash, and although he re-mounted his battered GSV-R, was unable to collect any championship points as he brought his bike home in 19th place.

Second Row Start For Rizla Suzuki'S Hopkins At Jerez

John Hopkins qualified his Rizla Suzuki GSV-R in sixth place for tomorrow’s Spanish Grand Prix, during this afternoon’s hour-long qualifying session at Jerez. Hopkins (1’39.625) was never outside the top-eight during the session and by using his Bridgestone qualifying tyres to their full extent was able to clam an all-important place on the front two rows.

Solid Day’s Work For Rizla Suzuki In Spain

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racers John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen recorded the seventh and eighth fastest times respectively during today’s free practice sessions for the Jerez Grand Prix on Sunday. Hopkins (1’41.245, 49 laps) is still suffering from his hand injury, but put together some fast laps on his Suzuki GSV-R as he worked with his team to find the best combination of Bridgestone race tyres to match the new 800cc bike’s performance around the 4.4km track. Hopkins missed the IRTA test at Jerez earlier in the year – due to the injuries he sustained at Qatar – and had to take a gamble on the correct tyres to use because he had no data as to how the new bike would perform on this circuit.

Second-Row Start For Hopkins And Rizla Suzuki At Season Opener

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racer John Hopkins will start the first Grand Prix of the season at Doha in Qatar tomorrow from sixth place on the grid. Hopkins (P6, 1’55.833, 45 laps) continued to battle against the pain he is suffering from his recent crash and was never outside the top-six on the timesheets during this afternoon’s qualifying session. He actually topped the leader board early on in the session and was on target for a front row start right up until the final minutes of the hour.

Rizla Suzuki's Hopkins On The Pace But Out Of Luck In Qatar

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racer John Hopkins set the pace early on during the concluding day of the Official MotoGP Test in Qatar, but a heavy crash just before lunch curtailed his involvement and saw him taken to hospital for x-rays. Hopkins had – up until his accident - clocked the day’s fastest time of 1’55.825 testing new Bridgestone qualifying tyres. Following his crash, he was taken to the Doha hospital where his injuries have been assessed. He has suspected fractures in his right hand and foot. As soon as we have more information we will post it on the rizla-suzuki-motogp website but the team are hopeful that he will be able to attend next week’s test in Spain.

Hot Times Ahead For Rizla Suzuki

Constructive Test For Rizla Suzuki

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP has completed the second test of the 2007 season at Phillip Island in Australia, having accumulated large volumes of important data for the forthcoming season. Chris Vermeulen shaved nearly two seconds off his lap-times over the three days and completed his fastest ever lap of the circuit, with a 1’30.30, during his 79 laps today. The Australian star was returning to Phillip Island for the first time since last year’s wet race and set about the task of improving the new GSV-R800 to make it competitive in dry conditions at the 4.4km track.

The Season Starts Now For Rizla Suzuki

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racers John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen get back into action next week when they will be testing the latest version of the 800cc Suzuki GSV-R at Sepang in Malaysia. Following the seven-week test ban, both riders will be eager to get back on the bike to continue from where they left off in Spain last year - Hopkins and Vermeulen were both amongst the fastest riders at the tests at the end of last season. Suzuki’s riders are raring to go and both of them have spent the winter months training hard back in their respective native homes of America and Australia. They have undertaken a thorough fitness programme during the break to prepare themselves for the 18 race season that lies ahead.

Impressive Form Continues For Rizla Suzuki At Jerez

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP Racers Chris Vermeulen and John Hopkins recorded the fastest times on race tyres during the final day of the Jerez test in Spain today, Vermeulen setting a time marginally outside the current lap record, with team-mate Hopkins narrowly behind him. Vermeulen’s time of 1’40.766 was set during Bridgestone race tyre development tests and his quickest lap was only bettered by riders using qualifying tyres. The Australian star worked hard all day long, trying many different chassis and engine settings and conducted thorough Bridgestone tyre tests during his 84 laps.

Rizla Suzuki Relishing Final Test

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP travels back to Europe for its final test of 2006, determined to continue with the promising start shown by the new Suzuki GSV-R800 at recent tests. The new 800cc has already produced promising performances at Valencia and Sepang, with John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen filling the top-two places at the Malaysian test just over a week ago. Suzuki has worked on the information gathered at those tests and will be bringing new engine control strategies and mapping information – developed on the dyno in Japan – to the test at Jerez in Spain on the 28th-29th-30th November.

Rizla Suzuki Dominates At Sepang Test

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racers John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen finished the Sepang test at the top of the timesheets for the second day in succession, as the new Suzuki GSV-R800 continued its impressive introduction into MotoGP. Hopkins recorded a time of 2’01.63 - half a second inside the current lap record held by Loris Capirossi on a Ducati 990 and almost a second quicker than the best lap-time that he recorded at this year’s Malaysian Grand Prix. Hopkins used his 48 laps today to test and refine engine mapping characteristics and to complete thorough evaluations of Bridgestone’s latest tyre developments. The Anglo-American’s quickest lap was set using one of Bridgestone’s new development race tyres during a 5 lap run.

Rizla Suzuki Excited About Next 800 Test

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP travels to Sepang in Malaysia for its second off-season test in preparation for next year’s assault on the MotoGP World Championship. Following the test at Valencia earlier this month – which gave promising results for the new engine – the whole team will be looking to see how the 800cc Suzuki GSV-R performs at such a different track to Valencia. The Sepang International Circuit will give the new engine a thorough test, as the 5.5km circuit features two long straights interlinked by a variety of turns including some very fast and testing sweeping bends and a mixture of slow corners.

Rizla Suzuki Takes Further Steps On Day Two

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP concluded its first ever test on the new Suzuki 800cc MotoGP machine at Valencia in Spain, with yet more encouraging results. John Hopkins, Chris Vermeulen and Factory Test Rider Nobuatsu Aoki all took to the track to put the new engine through its paces. Hopkins and Aoki also trialled the first generation of a brand new prototype chassis that next year’s bike may feature. Both riders noticed a difference in performance from this year’s chassis and the Factory will now work on the data to make further enhancements.
