Byrne & Crutchlow Take the Victories at Brands
4 Days ago
Cal Crutchlow powered through the pain barrier to take third place, adrift of Shane Byrne and Tom Sykes, and then took a victory in the re-scheduled round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch. The HM Plant Honda rider sustained a dislocated right ankle and ligament damage in a crash in the Holiday Monday round at Oulton Park and was passed fit to race after lengthy treatment by the Coventry City physio and series’ medics. He had started alongside Byrne at the front of the grid – the positions had been decided five weeks earlier at the snow aborted opening round, and in total contrast the races were fought out over a sun-drenched Kent grand prix circuit.

Double podium for MV Agusta at Outon
07 May 2008
Chris Burns put in two, very determined, rides at Oulton Park over the Bank Holiday weekend to come away with 2nd and 3rd places in the Daily Star Superbike Cup races. These results move Chris and the STP Motortsport MV Agusta British Superbike team into 2nd place in the overall standings. Free practice went extremely well over the weekend leading the team to be hopeful of qualifying well for the races. However, due to the mixed weather conditions during qualifying Chris found himself in third place out of the Cup riders and 20th overall on the grid. While disappointed, the team knew the potential of the bike and rider and were confident ahead of Monday’s races.

Daily Double for Byrne Puts Him in Control in Title Stakes
05 May 2008
Shane Byrne took a winning double in an incident littered Oulton Park round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship to tighten his grip on the crown. The first race was stopped on the opening lap when five riders, including early leader Tom Sykes, tipped off in three incidents and with rain falling prior to the re-start the teams gambled on tyre choice.

Pacy Crutchlow Shows Consistency
04 May 2008
Cal Crutchlow, who enjoyed maiden race winning glory in the previous round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship, carried that form and pace through free practice ahead of the Holiday Monday third round at Oulton Park. The HM Plant Honda rider put in a best lap of 1m 36.596secs, an average speed of 100.32mph, around the 2.692mile Cheshire circuit, heading off the determined challenge of his team-mate Leon Haslam by 0.151secs. Crutchlow, who jointly leads the early season title chase with Shane Byrne, was delighted with his continuing progress: “We’ve tried one or two things and have made a big positive step forward. There are still a few things to test but the bike is handling well.

Burns Raring to Go at Oulton
30 April 2008
Chris Burns is raring to go this weekend as the British Superbike Championship heads to Oulton Park. Following a successful test at Donington Park this week, the 27-year-old Newcastle rider is fired-up ahead of Bank Holiday Monday’s two races at the popular Cheshire circuit. On board the MV Agusta F4 312RR, Burns and the STP Motorsport outfit are looking to build on the success of the opening round at Thruxton two weeks ago, when the Geordie favourite crossed the line in second place in the Superbike Cup class.

Shane Byrne & Cal Crutchlow Take The Victories
21 April 2008
Shane Byrne and Cal Crutchlow were the race winners as the Bennetts British Superbike Championship began for real at Thruxton, and with them each taking a second place, they left the Hampshire circuit as the joint leaders of the series, ahead of the rejuvenated Michael Rutter who took a brace of third placings. Byrne, riding the Airwaves Ducati, had repeated the pole starting ride of the snow aborted Brands Hatch opening round, but he was out-started by Leon Haslam and Michael Rutter, before Cal Crutchlow swooped ahead to lead at the end of the opening lap.

Byrne Beats Wind & Rain For Pole
19 April 2008
Shane Byrne left it late to secure his second successive pole start in this year’s Bennetts British Superbike Championship and the former title winner admitted that a late gamble of tyre choice had been crucial to him bettering the time of his rival Leon Haslam. Rain earlier in the afternoon, coupled with a strong wind, combined to make conditions difficult at Thruxton and with less than four minutes remaining it seemed that Haslam, with a lap of 1m 19.872secs, had done enough to put his HM Plant Honda on top of the leaderboard.

Crutchlow Fastest Ahead of Team-Mate Haslam
19 April 2008
Cal Crutchlow underlined his determination to enjoy maiden race winning glory in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship by comfortably heading the free practice leaderboard at the wind-swept Thruxton in Hampshire. The HM Plant Honda rider had been on the pace throughout, upping the tempo in the afternoon session to send a warning to his rivals ahead of what will be opening race action in the country’s premier racing series.

Byrne Sets Early Standard In Free Practice
04 April 2008
Shane Byrne headed off the determined challenges of Leon Haslam in free practice ahead of the Sunday’s opening round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit. The two riders duelled for top spot, but it was Byrne, riding the all-new Airwaves Ducati 1098R, who came out on top, though by little more than a third of a second after the two 50 minute sessions. Byrne, who hails from nearby Sittingbourne, but who now lives in Zurich, has a special affinity with the Kent circuit: “As well as being my local circuit, it is the first place that I ever raced, and I won that day and was given the man of the meeting award.”
