Rain Provides Husqvarna Testing Time for Supermoto Stars

Two Husqvarnas got to the podium in the 2nd Supermoto World Championship GP held in Castelletto di Branduzzo, Pavia. Rain disturbed various sessions over the race weekend, and put the Supermoto riders to the test. However the conditions didn't seem to hamper the efforts of Belgian two times World Champion Delepine and his teammate Adrien Chareyre.

Eventful Day for Pignotti in Supermoto 2 World Championship

The S2 Grand Prix of Europe was an eventful one for KTM's Attilio Pignotti, who on a day when the weather turned the race into something of a lottery came in at seventh place overall at Castelletto di Branduzzo in Italy.
Pignotti of Italy did not get away well in the first moto. Rain and mud on the track surface made conditions slippery and he crashed in the offroad section and only managed to finish in twelfth place. He had a somewhat better start in the second moto but an injury to his wrist in the earlier crash meant he had problems being able to grip the controls.

KTM's Bernd Hiemer 2nd in Castelletto

KTM factory rider Bernd Hiemer shared the glory and the points in the S1Grand Prix of Europe on Sunday but had to settle for second place after rival Thierry van den Bosch stole victory in the second moto in the closing stages. The German racer won the first moto virtually from start to finish and looked set to take the second. Repeating his very good start in race one, Bernd led the way through nine of the twelve laps in heat two and with a two-second lead looked set to take the coveted red number plate as championship leader.

KL Kawasaki Nastedo Team Presented AT Castelletto

In occasion of this second Grand Prix of 2008, the KL Kawasaki Nastedo Team introduced their new squad to the press. The KL Kawasaki supported team, with KL being the Italian distributor for Kawasaki off road bikes, is headed by Italian Domenico Corbo and lines up multiple French Champion Maxime Testu and Italian young gun Marco Dondi. The team is based in Vicenza, in the North of Italy. Both riders are onboard the Kawasaki SM 450F-R’s tuned by the Nastedo Group, headed by Mr. Corbo. The latter is a former road racer and aims at applying the bits of his road racing experience to SuperMoto.

FIM Supermoto Grand Prix of Europe

An almost new course is attending the FIM and UEM SuperMoto Championship riders at Castelletto di Branduzzo, the venue of this weekend’s GP of Europe which is the second of both series. In the S1 class Aprilia Off Road’s Thierry Van Den Bosch leads the pack but he had to face a strong opposition since the season opened in Torino. KTM Italia Miglio’s Bernd Hiemer is right on his tail, with both the Frenchman and the German being level in points. Castelletto might be the chance for Husqvarna CH Racing’s Thomas Chareyre to close in on the leading duo, as the youngster aims at collecting his maiden World Title one year after he took his first ever GP win (Torino 2007).

JiR Presents its Programme for the Future

Coverage Of The Fim Supermoto GP of Europe

The FIM SuperMoto Grand Prix of Europe, to take place in Castelletto di Branduzzo on May 25th, will be broadcast live and delayed according to the attached schedule. Castelletto di Branduzzo’s Motodromo has been always linked to SuperMoto as it is one of the few permanent structures dedicated to the sport. The race track did undergo major changes throughout the winter and since April 2008 it looks completely different than it was last year. With the oval section and the sky zone being the only parts of the track that remained untouched, the rest of the Motodromo has become more flowing and fast.
