First for Stoner in Valencia
27 October 2008
Casey Stoner took a dominant victory in the final round of the 2008 MotoGP season to secure second place in the Constructors' World Championship for Ducati. Today's win, at the circuit where he celebrated his debut success in the 125cc class back in 2003, was also the 150th for Australian riders in all Grand Prix classes. Not only that, but Stoner's sixth victory of the season means that the Italian factory have taken 17 wins from 36 races since the start of the 800cc era - an average of almost 50%. Marco Melandri enjoyed a positive but ultimately unfortunate final race with Ducati, the Italian rider coming through from the very back of the grid to lap in tenth place, only to run off track two laps from the end - returning to finish the race in sixteenth.

Stoner on Pole Again at Valencia
25 October 2008
Casey Stoner equalled the record for most pole positions in a MotoGP season today, taking his ninth of the campaign to level with Valentino Rossi's effort from 2003. The Ducati Marlboro Team technicians worked well to correctly judge the difficult track conditions, with spots of rain falling at the mid-point to cause frenetic action in pit-lane. Stoner worked with his team to quickly find a suitable dry setting for his Ducati before fitting three qualifying tyres - improving his lap time with each of them. Marco Melandri, third fastest in the wet conditions this morning, ran into problems again this afternoon and his confidence took a further blow when he ran off track.

Stoner Grabs Ninth Pole Of Season in Valencia
25 October 2008
Ducati rider Casey Stoner has taken his ninth pole position of the 2008 season in this afternoon’s Valencia GP qualifying session, taking to twelve the total number of Bridgestone-shod poles this year, double the number that was achieved last year. Stoner’s result will be the final pole position lap to be set using the softer specification ‘qualifiers’ with next year’s tyre regulations looking set to remove the possibility to use specific qualifying tyres. Honda rider Dani Pedrosa claimed his second consecutive front row start on Bridgestone tyres, lapping just 0.053s slower than Stoner’s pole lap. Nicky Hayden, who was the pacesetter in all three practice sessions prior to qualifying, finished in third position.

Suffering Stoner Seals Runner-Up Spot at Sepang
20 October 2008
Casey Stoner fought through the pain barrier to finish the Malaysian Grand Prix today, where sixth place in suffocating conditions was enough to seal the runner-up spot in the 2008 MotoGP World Championship with a round to spare. With some of the hottest, most humid conditions the MotoGP circus has ever had to suffer at Sepang and his physical condition still a long way from perfect, the Australian struggled throughout the race with cramps in his right hand - caused by the excessive forced required to compensate for the scaphoid injury to his left. Despite that he chased Andrea Dovizioso and Nicky Hayden hard for the final podium position but faded towards the end and eventually conceded fifth place to Shinya Nakano.

Rossi Takes Ninth Win of Season
20 October 2008
Bridgestone-shod Valentino Rossi has claimed victory in this afternoon’s Malaysian Grand Prix to take the ninth win of his championship-winning season. The Yamaha rider took the lead from Honda’s Dani Pedrosa at the halfway point of the race and continued to build an unassailable lead up to the chequered flag. The win represents the 14th win on Bridgestone tyres in the 17 races held so far this year with just the Valencia GP remaining next week. Pole sitter Pedrosa led into the first corner and fended off Rossi for 11 laps before settling into a comfortable second place where he ultimately finished the 21-lap race. Second marks a one place improvement over Pedrosa’s previous best on Bridgestone tyres, a third place in Japan three weeks ago, in only his fourth race running with Bridgestone. Fellow Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso rounded out the podium in third place just over four-seconds behind Pedrosa.

Drying Dani Grabs Pole
18 October 2008
For once the weather in this season of rain turned the qualifying session for the Polini Grand Prix of Malaysia into the most exciting of the year. After some typical heavy rain the 3.447 miles Sepang circuit was wet at the start of the one hour session but started to dry dramatically in the sunshine. After nearly every rider took their turn at the front in the changing conditions the final ten minutes turned into a superb shoot-out. Spaniard Dani Pedrosa, still limping from his crash in Australia 13 days ago, pipped World Champion Valentino Rossi for just his second pole of the season in the dying seconds. Another Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo, who’d taken his turn at the front on the Fiat Yamaha, completed the front row in third place.
