The Australian and the Japanese rider were at the top of the standings for almost the entire day, but in the final few minutes Bayliss powered to a time of 1 minute 36.595 seconds, four tenths clear of his closest rivals.

Difficult Race's in Misano for HANNspree SBK Team
01 July 2008
The hard conditions at Misano continued for the HANNspree Ten Kate Honda Superbike team today where, after two days of poor qualifying, the team still struggled to optimise the performance of the Honda CBR1000RR and find the right pace in the Superbike races. Carlos Checa qualified eleventh on the grid after issues with the grip of his bike played havoc throughout the qualifying session. His qualifying spot put him in a difficult position to make passes on his frontrunners in the strong field. However, some crashes at the front enabled Checa to make up some ground and he finished the first race in fifth position.

Difficult First Day of Qualifying in Misano
28 June 2008
The first day of qualifying in Misano took place in hot weather conditions today. With the temperature rising to 34 degrees, the three men strong HANNspree Ten Kate Honda squad struggled to find the right pace for the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblades. Carlos Checa’s fastest lap of 1'38.189 in the first qualifying practice was 1.326s off the fastest time set by provisional pole sitter Troy Bayliss. After his strong performance in the USA round, Checa’s experienced difficulties with the set-up of his machine and used most of his 60-minute session to focus on finding the right grip for his Honda CBR1000RR. Chattering issues halted his performance throughout the session in which he was not able to find the pace and set some fast laps.

Misano Cauldron Awaits World Superbike Contenders
26 June 2008
The action in the 2008 HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship is undoubtedly set to heat up this weekend as the runners and riders head for the Misano World Circuit cauldron on Italy’s Adriatic Riviera coast for Round 8, the San Marino Round organized in collaboration with the motorcycling federation of the tiny, Italian-speaking but independent, Republic state. With 7 rounds done and dusted, the season now enters its second half and the revised Santamonica circuit could not be a better place for this next phase of the championship, with scorching weather expected at the holiday venue to liven up proceedings. The last two rounds have produced two double winners in Carlos Checa (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) at Miller Motorsports Park and Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB) at the Nurburgring, but more to the point they have seen Troy Bayliss’s leadership grip on a championship gradually come under threat.

15 June 2008
Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB) scored a fantastic double win at the Nurburgring on World Superbike’s return to the German track for the first time in ten years. Just two weeks after breaking his collarbone in the USA, Haga fought off Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) to win race 1, and then got the better of his team-mate Troy Corser in a rain-shortened second encounter to take the double. Max Neukirchner (Alstare Suzuki) took two thirds in front of his home crowd. Despite unfavourable weather conditions, the German Round of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship, reached a satisfactory overall attendance of 41,000 over the 3 days.

Checa Secured Front Row Start After Blistering Superpole Lap
15 June 2008
HANNspree Ten Kate Honda rider Carlos Checa made a fantastic recovery after struggling through the second day of qualifying and secured a third place on the grid after a blistering Superpole lap. Issues with the electronics on his bike forced him to drop down from his provisional third place secured in QP1 to 12th in the second qualifying practice. Checa overcame the issues with his machine towards the end of the second free practice and superbly powered his Honda CBR1000RR to a front row start in Superpole qualifying.

14 June 2008
HANNspree Ten Kate Honda rider Carlos Checa finished provisional third on the grid onboard his Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade at the opening day of qualifying at the German Nurburgring. Checa improved his pace in the last leg of the session and was the first rider to dip under the 1’58s mark. He remained in the top three till the end of the session and concluded the day in a best of 1'57.878, which puts him 0.6 seconds behind provisional pole sitter Troy Corser. Riders Arrive at Cold & Wet Nurburgring
12 June 2008
As the World Superbike paddock is being set up at the Nurburgring on what proved to be an extremely cold, wet and windy Thursday, the main media interest surrounded the recent performances of 35-year-old Spanish rider Carlos Checa (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) and 25-year-old Max Neukirchner (Alstare Suzuki) from Germany, currently lying second and third in the championship standings. Checa came away from the last round at Miller Motorsports Park with a double win and 50 points and this, coupled with two DNF finishes and zero points for the championship leader Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox), have helped to reshuffle the cards in the points standings, even though Bayliss still has a 28 point lead. Neukirchner, who had scored his first WSBK win two rounds before at Monza, has twice since been on the podium in second place.

Checa’s Double Win Leaves All to Play for at Nurburgring
11 June 2008
The double win by Carlos Checa (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) in Round 6 of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship two weeks ago at Miller Motorsports Park in the USA succeeded in shuffling the cards in the points standings somewhat as the series reaches the mid-point of the season. With Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) failing to score in both races, the Spaniard has now cut the gap to the top man to just 28 points. What seemed a healthy points cushion for the Australian just a couple of races ago, is now not such a large gap after all, proving that anything can happen in the unpredictable world of Superbike racing. The second new circuit in the space of two weeks is the Nurburgring, which has not hosted a round of the Superbike World Championship since 1999, when the German Round made its second and last visit after the first event in 1998. Four riders in the current world championship line-up have raced Superbike there before – Troy Corser, Noriyuki Haga, Ruben Xaus and Gregorio Lavilla – with the Australian powering to a race 2 win in 1999, while Carlos Checa and Max Biaggi have raced in 500 and 250 respectively and Max Neukirchner in the German championship. Almost one decade has passed since then and this weekend’s Nurburgring race is sure to throw up a few surprises.

Pirelli Race Review - Monza
12 May 2008
A classic Italian weekend started on Thursday 8th May with a press conference, held at the Castello della Bicocca degli Arcimboldi, inside Pirelli’s headquarters in Milan. Many riders from the different classes participated, along with Pirelli and FGSport top-level management. Fanatics around the world watched it live, on the pirellityre.com website. On the racing stage, Pirelli fulfilled its promises by bringing a range of excellent tyres, both in SBK and WSS classes; thus Parkes and Bayliss made new track records at Monza. In SBK, Neukirchner was fast from Friday and ended Superpole in 2nd position, behind Bayliss, and clearly aiming to take his first ever SBK victory at the legendary Monza.

Kiyonari Shines in Monza with First WSB Podium
12 May 2008
HANNspree Ten Kate Honda rider Ryuichi Kiyonari was one of the surprises in the second Superbike race at Monza today as he magnificently pushed his Honda to the top of the field and claimed his first ever World Superbike podium, despite the fact he had never raced the famous Italian track before. His maiden World Superbike podium was the reward for a strong race in which he worked hard to catch up with the front runners. Starting from 8th place on the grid, Kiyonari was determined to make his way forward and close the gap with the front runners. The last laps of the race saw Kiyonari closely following Haga and Neukirchner swapping the lead. He managed to overhaul the fighting dogs and grab the lead, but lost it in the final turn and finished his best race this season in third place with only 0.05 from victory.
