Graves Motorsports Ben Bostrom Wins the 2008 AMA Supersport Championship

Graves Motorsports racer Ben Bostrom won the 2008 AMA Supersport championship with a gutsy second-place finish in the series’ final round at Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif. on Sunday, Sept. 28. The championship is Bostrom’s third career title (to go with his Supermoto and Superbike honors) and the first in the Supersport class for Yamaha’s YZF-R6 since 2006. Teammate Josh Herrin made a strong run to the podium to finish third and wind up the season solidly in fifth.

Suzuki Dominates Laguna Seca & AMA SBK Series

Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing celebrated the end of the 2008 AMA Superbike season in true championship-winning style by sweeping the AMA Superbike podium one-two-three at the final round at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California, on Sunday afternoon.

AMA Superbike Championship - Laguna Seca

The AMA Superbike Championship will travel to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, in Monterey, California for a second time this season for the Corona AMA Superbike Finale. Unlike the trip in July when they shared the circuit with the superstars of MotoGP, this time the spotlight will shine solely on AMA Pro Racing riders and the weekend will feature the full complement of AMA classes.

CSS Filmed for TV..., CSS Merchandise, CSS Bikes for Sale!

California Superbike School are to appear on Motors TV later this year. A range of merchandise featuring the CSS branding is available and the chance is here to find a reasonably priced Yamaha R6 or R1. If you were at the last few Rockingham and Brands Hatch schools, you couldn't have failed to notice a film crew following the progress of three students. Derek Redmond - former Olympic 400m runner, Al Fagan - Road tester and racer for Fast Bikes magazine and Sheela Hollywood - executive producer of the forthcoming programme. The programme will follow the students progress through the levels, and will also feature what it takes to become a CSS Coach. Interviews with Andy Ibbott, Leon Camier and Keith Code archive footage.

Those of you who have already heard of California Superbike School (CSS) need no reminders of their legendary reputation for track emphasised coaching sessions and circuit training days. Everyone I have spoken to comments on how they are a better rider after having done sessions with CSS, especially in terms of cornering and safer fast riding - on the track or road.

Track day on Challenging Luxury Circuit in Spain with CSS

On October 30th, California Superbike School will be moving to the continent for a few days. CSS has recently added another top notch track to it's list, this will be the first CSS Camp to take place at the luxury Ascari Race Resort in Spain. This is a two day event held at a challenging track in beautiful Andalucia, Southern Spain, the price includes track filming, coaching, accommodation and food. Unlike other tracks, Ascari focuses on the whole experience, pampering the racer and offering not only a world class circuit, but extras such as a skid pan, buggy/ off road track, petrol station, underground parking, vehicle washing facilities, hospital, hotel, wireless internet access, helipad and even a health and beauty centre!

Germany & USA GP Bridgestone Debrief

Bridgestone heads into the traditional three-week summer break on the back of its most competitive race weekends of the season with podium clean sweeps in both the wet Sachsenring and dry Laguna Seca GPs. In the German event, Casey Stoner continued the dominant form that took him to victory in Donington and Assen. He claimed Friday free practice honours, Saturday’s pole position and Sunday’s wet race win, clawing back valuable ground in the world championship. Valentino Rossi finished second and, with championship contender Dani Pedrosa crashing out and not scoring points, Rossi reclaimed the lead of the world championship. Chris Vermeulen finished third to take his and Suzuki’s first podium of the season. Stoner’s unbeaten pole position run was extended to an incredible five in Laguna Seca, but it was Valentino Rossi who took the victory on race day, after a thrilling 32-lap race.

Steve Rapp Disqualified from Laguna Seca Supersport Race

AMA Pro Racing announced today that Steve Rapp has been disqualified from the July 19, 2008 AMA Pro Honda Oils Supersport Championship presented by Shoei round at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca following the outcome of post race technical inspections. The cylinder head from the #15 Attack Kawasaki was sent to AMA headquarters in Pickerington, Ohio, and was compared to other production cylinder heads from the same model. Upon this inspection, the cylinder head was found to be in non-compliance of the 2008 AMA Superbike Championship Rulebook.

Dovizioso Takes Fourth for Michelin

MotoGP rookie and Laguna Seca first-timer Andrea Dovizioso (JiR Team Scot Honda RC212V-Michelin) rode a superb race to finish today’s United States Grand Prix in fourth place, just ahead of fellow Michelin men Nicky Hayden (Repsol Honda RC212V-Michelin) and Randy de Puniet (Honda LCR RC212V-Michelin). Laguna is rated to be the hardest MotoGP track to learn but Dovizioso did a superb job of unlocking its secrets to allow him to equal his best MotoGP result. Michelin’s fourth, fifth and sixth place result completed a challenging weekend for the French tyre brand.

Toseland Fights Hard For Ninth

Tech 3 Yamaha rider James Toseland made a welcome return to the top ten this afternoon with a determined ride to ninth place in the American GP. In sunny but cool conditions, the British rider made a fantastic start from the second row and found himself fourth at the first corner. But while cautiously waiting for his Michelin tyres to reach optimum working temperature, he slipped down to eighth at the end of the first lap. Toseland moved back into sixth by lap six to engage in a long battle with Frenchman Randy de Puniet. He slipped back to seventh on lap 12 but reeled off a consistent pace in the 1.23 bracket to maintain constant pressure on de Puniet. His pace saw him get tantalisingly close to the battle for fourth place, but in the final stages of the 32-lap encounter, he lost two more places and finished ninth.

Stoner Second in Laguna Blockbuster

Casey Stoner took second place in the US Grand Prix today after an incredible battle with Valentino Rossi. With Ducati Desmosedici RR owner Tom Cruise watching from pit wall, Stoner launched from pole position and was immediately pursued by the Italian, with the pair swapping positions as they left the rest of the field trailing. The stage was set for a big-screen finale but a rare mistake from the Australian in the final turn, just eight laps from the end, saw him run wide into the dirt and drop his Ducati as the front end dipped into the deep gravel. A huge gap of more than 20 seconds over third-placed Chris Vermeulen allowed Stoner to return to the race in second place, but there weren't enough laps left for him to hunt down Rossi.

Great 4th Place For Dovizioso in the States

For Andrea Dovizioso and JiR Team Scot the United States Grand Prix ended full of satisfaction. After two days of practice, Andrea did well from ninth position on the grid, and soon found himself behind Rossi, Stoner and Hayden. While the first two left the group – posting an unbelievable pace – Andrea became the standard bearer of Honda and HRC, yielding only to Chris Vermeulen in the first part of the race. The debut of Andrea Dovizioso riding the Honda RC212V of JiR Team Scot could not have finished better. Dovi managed a fourth place finish for the third time in the championship, reaching fifth place in the championship, in addition to being the first rider this weekend with Honda and Michelin.

Rough Ride for Honda Gresini at Laguna

Team San Carlo Honda Gresini head into the summer break hoping to put another unfortunate Grand Prix out of their minds, with both Shinya Nakano and Alex de Angelis riding bravely to the points at Laguna Seca today but with their true potential certainly not reflected by 10th and 13th place finishes. It was always going to be a tough USGP for the pair after crashes in qualifying limited them to lowly grid positions, but in particular for De Angelis, who was riding with the added inconvenience of a broken thumb. The rookie rider put on a courageous display to finish in the points, whilst a potential top eight finish for Nakano was spoiled by a mid-race mistake.

Vermeulen Powers to Second Successive Podium

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racer Chris Vermeulen scored his second podium finish in a week as he rode to a fantastic third at Laguna Seca today. Starting from eighth on the grid, Vermeulen had to fight to get near the front and was involved in an exciting battle with Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso early on, before getting the best of both of them on lap eight to move into third place. He then had quite a lonely ride as he was never put under pressure for the final podium place, but was too far behind the leaders to mount a challenge for the top spot. Vermeulen kept his concentration for the remainder of the race and brought his Suzuki GSV-R home safely for his second successive podium at Laguna Seca.

Lorenzo’s Laguna Debut Ends in Gravel

Jorge Lorenzo suffered a dramatic high-side on the very first lap of the US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca today, his debut American race ending in the gravel at turn five. The Spaniard broke the third and fifth metatarsal bones in his left foot and will now face a race to be fit for the next race in Brno, in a month’s time. Lorenzo made a good start and was looking promising in fourth place when the crash happened. It was immediately clear that he had injured himself, a depressing realisation for a rider who has already had to cope with two broken ankles and a concussion this season. With the summer break coming before the next race however the outlook is good for the 21-year-old, who has flown home tonight for further assessment in Barcelona this week.

Rossi Rules at Laguna with First American Victory

Fiat Yamaha Team rider Valentino Rossi took his first career win on American soil today, emerging victorious after an epic duel with Casey Stoner at Laguna Seca. The Italian, who signed a new two-year deal with Yamaha this week, has now won four races this season and is 25 points clear at the top of the championship. Rossi started from second and was able to pass Stoner on the brakes during the first lap to take the lead. From then on it was clear that the pair were in a class of their own today as they gradually pulled out a gap from the chasing pack, trading passes with one another but with no one else able to stay with them. Stoner was often faster than Rossi on the straight but the seven-time world champion had the advantage in the twisty parts of the track and he was able to gain the lead back on the brakes each time the Australian passed him.

Rossi Wins Laguna Seca Epic

Fiat Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi has today scored a magnificent victory at the Laguna Seca Raceway after an epic 32-lap US Grand Prix which saw Ducati’s Casey Stoner and Rizla Suzuki’s Chris Vermeulen complete an all-Bridgestone podium for the second race in succession. Rossi and Stoner were involved in a tight tussle at the front for much of the race, building up a massive 22 second gap to third-placed Vermeulen in a thrilling encounter. Stoner endured an off-track excursion on lap 24, but recovered his bike to rejoin the race still in second position with a comfortable cushion to Vermeulen.

Elias Seventh With His Best Performance of Season

The growth of the Alice Team seen in the lasts Grand Prix didn’t stop on American soil. Toni Elias conquered his best result of the season, after the eight place in China, thanks to a incredible comeback which saw him pass from the tenth to the seventh position in the last four laps. The Spanish riders, in fact, has reached and overtook Nakano, Toseland and Spies in the final part of the American Grand Prix. His teammate, Sylvain Guintoli, hasn’t be so lucky today: in the moment of maximum confusion, after only a few turns, he had to go out of the track after a touch with another rider. Back on track with almost ten seconds from the second last, the French rider didn’t give up and recovered to the twelfth position. MotoGP now stops for three weeks: next race in Brno on August 17th.
