Bennetts BSB Pirelli Race Review Oulton Park
3 Days ago
In race 1 the drama engulfed the opening British Superbike race at Oulton Park. With rain spotting as the riders took their positions at the end of the sighting lap, the red flag brought a swift conclusion as a host of riders, including holeshot rider Tom Sykes, crashing at the first corner. A swift re-start ensued of the full 18-lap race distance. Sykes took the holeshot on his Rizla Suzuki again, stretching his lead to almost a second from Crutchlow’s HM Plant Honda by the culmination of the opening lap. Byrne, Haslam and Camier fought doggedly for third as Crutchlow took the lead with a classic manoeuvre at Lodge on lap 2.

Meanwhile in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport series Brogan took a fifth place finish to end the day just nine points off series leader Glen Richards, despite still feeling the after-effects of flu. In the two Bennetts British Superbike races much was expected from pole-sitter Cal Crutchlow and his fellow front-row starter Leon Haslam.

Leon suffered a high-side early in the qualifying session, but despite feeling a little second-hand, the 24-year-old from Derbyshire took the final spot on the front-row for tomorrow’s two 18-lap Bennetts British Superbike races.

Confident Crutchlow Puts in Late Charge to Take Pole
5 Days ago
Cal Crutchlow, fresh from the maiden race victory last time out, powered his HM Plant Honda onto pole start for the Holiday Monday third round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park, running half a second clear of the Airwaves Ducati rider, Shane Byrne, with whom he shares the lead in the title stakes. The HM Plant Honda proved to be the man for all conditions in the Swan Combi 50 - Roll for Pole grid deciding session which had begun on a wet Cheshire circuit. Crutchlow set the early pace, maintaining the form that he had shown throughout the earlier free practice sessions.

HM Plant Honda Team Head to Oulton Park for Bank Holiday Fun
01 May 2008
Following on from a successful first race of the year at Thruxton, the HM Plant Honda team heads to the challenging circuit of Oulton Park in Cheshire this Bank Holiday weekend. The 2.69-mile circuit is undulating, exciting and undeniably one of the riders’ favourites. Both Cal and Leon in the Bennetts British Superbike class will be looking for good results at one of their favourite tracks of the year: Cal to back up his debut win and Leon to kick-start his championship challenge after a disappointing Thruxton. Steve Brogan will be hoping for a repeat of his double from the Hampshire track, where he won both the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport race and the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 event, making him the series leader in both classes.

29 April 2008
Shane Byrne and Cal Crutchlow power into the Holiday Monday round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship on level terms but as they plan their tactics for riding the picturesque Oulton Park circuit they need to take check the form of both Michael Rutter and Karl Harris. Rutter excelled in the recent Thruxton round, bagging a pair of thirds on the North West 200 Ducati while Harris, still sporting the bruises from his heavy crash last time out, has a good record at the Cheshire circuit, recording his best ever Superbike result, second, there last July.

Meanwhile in Supersport and Superstock Steve Brogan completed a magnificent double by taking a win apiece in both classes. One HM Plant teamster who was not so lucky was Leon Haslam. Pirelli Race Report Bennetts BSB - Thruxton
21 April 2008
Shane Byrne transferred pole position into race win to claim his fourth win at Thruxton Circuit on his return to Ducati (20th April). The move to a Pirelli control tyre for 2008 provided a frenetic and close-fought opening race of the season. With a level playing field in terms of rubber, it was left to individual teams to select a favourable compound around the fast and abrasive 2.356mile Hampshire circuit. In race two Cal Crutchlow looked to be in dominant form, making the early running in the search for his debut victory, as he led the field for the first 12 laps. However, the sheer grunt of the new Ducati 1098 proved too much for Crutchlow and Shane Byrne expertly bided his time before making his move for the lead on his Airwaves Ducati on the 13th lap. A rejuvenated Michael Rutter on the North West 200 Ducati, left his passing manoeuvre until lap 18 to claim third position ahead of Leon Haslam.

Byrne, riding the Airwaves Ducati, had repeated the pole starting ride of the snow aborted Brands Hatch opening round, but he was out-started by Leon Haslam and Michael Rutter, before Cal Crutchlow swooped ahead to lead at the end of the opening lap.

Byrne Beats Wind & Rain For Pole
19 April 2008
Shane Byrne left it late to secure his second successive pole start in this year’s Bennetts British Superbike Championship and the former title winner admitted that a late gamble of tyre choice had been crucial to him bettering the time of his rival Leon Haslam. Rain earlier in the afternoon, coupled with a strong wind, combined to make conditions difficult at Thruxton and with less than four minutes remaining it seemed that Haslam, with a lap of 1m 19.872secs, had done enough to put his HM Plant Honda on top of the leaderboard.

CJ Riders Fund Ready for Thruxton
17 April 2008
After the snow swept Brands Hatch, the CJ Riders Fund still had a very successful weekend at what was meant to be the opening round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship. Six inches of snow put a stop to the racing on Sunday, (6th April) and the meeting has now been rescheduled for May. The CJ Fund used the weekend to their advantage and had a practice run with their new CJ Unit, which worked perfectly and was situated in an ideal spot at Brands. The new CJ Promo Girls worked exceptionally hard throughout the weekend despite the freezing conditions, they still plugged away in their lycra suits collecting monies, look out for them at Thruxton!
