Kirkham Claims Spring Cup Title at Mallory
4 Days ago
Jon Kirkham claimed the first Henderson Yamaha R1 Cup Spring Cup title over a thrilling 14-lap race at Mallory Park (29th June). Drama unfolded as the riders circulated round the 1.41 mile circuit on the first of two warm-up laps. A short sharp shower across part of the Leicestershire circuit saw the red flags deployed and proceedings briefly halted. A quick re-start was called as the rain past, with race distance reduced to 14 laps. Championship leader, Jon Kirkham, had the unenviable task of just bringing home' the Jon Kirkham Racing Yamaha R1 in the points to secure the title. But with Warren having an outside chance on paper, and Ben Wilson determined to finish the first half of the season with his first win, the scene was set for some breath-taking action.

Double Donington Delight For Kirkham
25 June 2008
Jon Kirkham recorded his second double of the season in front of a packed house at Donington Park, as the International Round of the Henderson Yamaha R1 Cup took place at the British MotoGP (21st June). Starting the opening race from pole position, Kirkham took the holeshot for the reduced nine-lapper. In a mirror of the May Bank Holiday races, Ben Wilson tucked into second place hot on Kirkham's heels, with Emmett, Warren and Jack Kennedy in close pursuit. Unfortunately for Wilson, his challenge would end midway through the third circulation as the Boston rider fell victim to Coppice. Rejoining the race down in 17th, he was forced to retire from proceedings two laps later.

Ben Wilson Sines at Snetterton
16 June 2008
Ben Wilson rode to a brace of top seven places at Snetterton but was denied the chance to shine in the second of the two Superstock races because of the adverse weather conditions that caused a long delay earlier in the day. With two races in the Metzeler National Superstock championship to contend with, the 26-year-old Boston rider was anticipating another pair of strong finishes, but a crash in qualifying put paid to a strong grid position and he had to be content with a third row start in ninth place.

The R1 Cup enjoyed a double header at Donington to make up for the disappointment of the cancelled season opener at Brands Hatch earlier in the year. Grid positions for the opening race of the day were carried forward from Brands with Wilson placed on row two and he was itching for the race to get underway.

Ben Wilson will be hoping to capitalise from this by securing two good results on Monday.
