Dainese To Sponsor 2008 Tourist Trophy as Official Safety Partner

The company from Vicenza has been appointed Official Safety Partner of the legendary race that has been run since 1907 on the Isle of Man in England. In order to close the important sponsorship deal, the two most important superbike races of the Tourist Trophy (TT) to be held on May 31st and June 7th will be renamed The Isle of Man Dainese Superbike Race and The Isle of Man Dainese Senior TT Race. The TT will be the first “Italian Legendary Protection” event: a project that Dainese has been developing together with AGV with the objective of communicating and celebrating the long tradition that both Italian companies share in motorcycle racing history in terms of protection and safety.

Dainese Announces 2008 TT Involvement

Dainese has today announced that the company has been appointed the ‘Official Safety Partner’ to the Isle of Man TT Races for 2008. As part of the significant deal, the TT’s two key Superbike races will be known as The Isle of Man Dainese Superbike Race and The Isle of Man Dainese Senior TT Race. The Italian company, which specialises in safety products for active sports enthusiasts was founded in 1972 by the current managing director, Mr Lino Dainese, who will be visiting the Isle of Man over the TT fortnight.

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP’s Australian star Chris Vermeulen will run a new racing number on the front of his machine in 2008, using the number seven made famous by Suzuki’s double World Champion Barry Sheene. Vermeulen will have the iconic crossed seven on his Rizla Suzuki GSV-R from the start of the forthcoming season and will be hoping that the new number will spur him on to similar success as that enjoyed by his hero and mentor Sheene.

Vermeulen Unveils One-off Retro Livery

Chris Vermeulen today unveiled his new ‘old’- look Suzuki GSV-R for this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island. The bike is sporting a retro paint-scheme designed to pay homage to Vermeulen’s mentor, and personal hero Barry Sheene. The livery was inspired by the Suzuki ‘XR14’ that the double Suzuki World Champion rode in the seventies. Vermeulen was joined by Barry’s son Freddie to uncover the bike in readiness for tomorrow’s first free practice session.

Star Line Up Of Top Motorcyclists Set To Race At The Goodwood Revival

Legendary motorcycles and top riders are set to star in this year’s Goodwood Revival meeting, taking place at the Goodwood Motor Circuit near Chichester from 31 August to 2 September. The ever-popular Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy motorcycle race is always one of the most exciting and competitive events at the Goodwood Revival. This is the only historic motorcycle race in the world that regularly attracts Italian exotics such as Benelli, Ducati and Moto Guzzi in significant numbers. Battling against them will be British Manx Norton and Matchless machinery as well as early Hondas from the land of the rising sun.

Vermeulen To Star At Goodwood On Sheene’s Bike

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP star Chris Vermeulen will be riding at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in England, onboard the Suzuki that powered Barry Sheene to his first GP victory. Coming straight from his front row qualification at last weekend’s British Grand Prix, Vermeulen will be riding Sheene’s 1975 Suzuki XR-14 over the famous Goodwood hill-climb course. The rookie Australian counts Sheene as his biggest hero and one of the reasons that he took up road racing, and is delighted to have been given the opportunity to ride the bike.
