Metatarsal Fractures Confirmed for Jorge Lorenzo

Jorge Lorenzo will be wearing a cast on his left foot for the next ten days, in order to recover from the clean fractures he sustained to his third, fourth and fifth metatarsal bones last Sunday. The Fiat Yamaha rider was taken directly to the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona upon his return from Laguna Seca, in order to undergo a series of examinations by Dr. Xavier Mir. The Spaniard was injured in a crash on the opening lap of last Sunday’s U.S. Grand Prix, the final round before the MotoGP summer break.

Lorenzo Undergoes Injury Check-Up

Fiat Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo returned to the Dexeus Institute in Barcelona this lunchtime for a check-up on the skin graft to the fourth finger of his right hand, which was carried out on Tuesday. Dr Xavier Mir confirmed that the graft had bonded well and that the injury was healing in a satisfactory manner, as the 21-year-old battles to be fit in time for the British Grand Prix at Donington Park next week. Lorenzo will undergo a further check-up on Monday before hopefully traveling to his home in London and beginning preparations for the eighth round of the MotoGP World Championship.

Lorenzo Undergoes Successful Skin Graft

Fiat Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo will leave hospital within the next 24 hours after undergoing successful surgery on his injured right hand and further neurological checks in Barcelona today. The 21-year-old has undergone a skin graft on the fourth and fifth fingers of his right hand. Renowned hand specialist Dr Xavier Mir carried out the operation in the Dexeus Institute, using skin from Lorenzo's right wrist. A final CAT scan also confirmed that the MotoGP rookie has fully recovered from concussion, although he still cannot entirely recall the moments immediately before the accident in the second free practice session of the Grand Prix of Catalunya last Friday.

Yesterday evening, Thursday may 8th 2008, Alice Team rider, Toni Elias, went to the bike show in Barcelona where he meet his fans at the Motocard stand, Alice Team sponsor in the MotoGP World Championship. The 25 years old, who lives in Manresa, near Barcelona, has signed many autograph for his supporters that used this wonderful opportunity to meet their idol. Elias was impressed with the amount of people who showed up at the event, declaring: “Unluckily with our work we are always around the world and we never have the opportunity to dedicate some time to our fans. This has been a fantastic opportunity to meet the people from my area, my first supporters. In fact, many fans met today come from Barcelona or the towns nearby. I have to thank Motocard who gave me this opportunity.”

Having flown straight back to Spain on Sunday night following his stunning ride to fourth place in Shanghai last weekend, Fiat Yamaha Team rider Jorge Lorenzo visited the Dexeus Institue in Barcelona on Monday morning for further examination by world-renowned specialist Dr. Xavier Mir. Dr. Mir, who had only operated on Lorenzo two weeks ago to relieve compartmental syndrome in his right forearm, was keen to carry out his own diagnosis on the injuries sustained during free practice for the Grand Prix of China, which the Clinica Mobile had treated to great effect in Shanghai in order to allow Lorenzo to ride.

BMW Out, But Not Down!

After a successful and very positive qualifying, BMW Endurance racing teams attack on the 24 Hores Frigo at Barcelona came to a premature halt after eight laps due to a crash. Thomas Hinterreiter crashed at a long left-hander and although he was uninjured, the R1200S was too badly damaged to continue. The bike was later brought back to the pits and given a complete check-up, but the team was only able to confirm that their race was over.

Miracle milestone for Randy Krummenacher

Randy Krummenacher's podium finish in Barcelona may have had almost miracle qualities for some observers, but for the Swiss teenager, currently engaged in rapid career advancement, his first big success in Grand Prix racing was just another milestone. Randy Krummenacher's third place at the Grand Prix of Catalunya did catch him - and others - unaware, in fact the young rider barely got any rest when he returned home to Zurich. Life has been full for the 17-year-old Red Bull KTM 125 rider in the week's break leading up to British Grand Prix this weekend. He has rushed from newspaper interviews to autograph sessions and was featured in two lengthy television specials. The whole of Switzerland took note of a very special sports moment when this young talent burst into the world's elite with style and flourish.
