Don’t mess with Texas in MOTO-ST

The Lone Star State has had a big influence in the professional endurance series almost from day one. Dallas rider Troy Green was last year’s Rider’s Champion in the Buell Motorcycle Company SuperSport Twins (SST) class, and he and teammate Ty Howard of Weatherford, Texas helped the Aprilia USA squad claim the Team’s title as well. Now the Texas connection has spread to the Sport Twins (ST) division, where the M4 Avteq Racing squad is in the thick of the title battle heading into this weekend’s Barber 500k at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, the fourth round of the seven-race series.

Yoshimura Suzuki's Dominate

Reigning AMA Superbike Champion Ben Spies headed a Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 clean sweep of the top three places during qualifying for this weekend's AMA Superbike double-header at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama. The Texan rider beat his own lap record, set during his victory there last year, with a time of 1:24.318 around the sun-blessed 2.4-mile circuit to finish ahead of team mates Mat Mladin and Tommy Hayden.

Spies Hopes For Victorious Superbike Replay At Barber Doubleheader

Last year Suzuki’s Ben Spies swept the AMA Superbike Championship Doubleheader at Barber Motorsports Park and never looked back. On April 20-22 the AMA Superbike Championship presented by Parts Unlimited returns to Birmingham, Ala., for the 5th annual Honda Superbike Classic, rounds two and three of the 19-race series. Spies, the defending series champ from Longview, Texas, is hoping to duplicate his sweep at Barber of a year ago.

Parts Unlimited Ducati Completes Test Program At Barber

Neil Hodgson and Ben Bostrom of the Parts Unlimited Ducati Team tested at Barber Motorsports Park on Monday and Tuesday. Both riders saw their schedule put into fast forward mode on Tuesday afternoon because of weather issues. Wet conditions at the tight 2.3-mile circuit on Tuesday morning kept the teams off the track until noon, but the afternoon saw a flurry of action on the Birmingham track. Fortunately, both riders were able to complete the testing program for their Ducati 999 Superbikes.
