'Robbo' Relishing Bees Clash

The Lakeside Hammers now face the Coventry Bees this Wednesday, 14th October, in the Elite League Knockout Cup Final First Leg at the Arena-Essex Raceway and one rider relishing the challenge of the Club winning its first ever top League silverware is Stuart Robson, himself a former Bee, who has become a firm fans favourite with the Essex faithful in his comeback season after two years away from the Sport.

Having endured a torrid week of devastating injury news, the Lakeside Hammers rallied for an outstanding 'backs to the wall' performance to beat Wolverhampton Wolves at the Arena-Essex Raceway last Friday night. With three of their riders now looking likely to have their season prematurely ended, Team Manager Jon Cook was able to elicit some heroic performances from his remaining riders to see off a strong Wolves challenge.

Hammers Star Injured in Sweden

The Lakeside Hammers League championship challenge has been hit by a further injury blow ahead of an important two days for the Club after Jonas Davidsson, one of the most improved riders in the League this season, was hurt in a crash in his homeland on Tuesday night.?Davidsson suffered a punctured lung, broken rib and internal injuries after a first bend coming together with Bjarne Pedersen and looks set to be on the sidelines for a number of weeks adding to the Hammers problems with Joonas Kylmakorpi already out for the season.

Hammers Prepare for the Visit of the Wolves

The Lakeside Hammers prepare for this coming Friday’s important home Sky Sports Elite League match against Wolverhampton by visiting Peterborough on Thursday. The Peterborough Panthers have made team changes since the Hammers last visited the East of England Showground in June in the Knockout Cup. On that occasion the Hammers roared to a comfortable 12 point victory.

The Lakeside Hammers bounced back from the doom and gloom of their first home League defeat of the season by Swindon last Friday with a great victory at Wolverhampton on Monday night now aim to reach a second Cup Final when Eastbourne visit the Arena-Essex Raceway this Wednesday. The Hammers performance at Wolverhampton was a good team effort led by Jonas Davidsson and Adam Shields. Without Andreas Jonsson and Joonas Kylmakorpi many believed the side might have struggled to claim the win but they all fought for every point.

Hammers Boss Praises Team Performance

Lakeside Hammers Boss Jon Cook has heaped praise on his team for a tremendous back to the walls display at Poole last night that saw the team only go down to an eight point defeat despite losing Andreas Jonsson a couple of hours before the meeting and then seeing Joonas Kylmakorpi crash out with another dislocation of his shoulder.

Hammers Claim Vital Win Over the Eagles

The Lakeside Hammers roared to a superb 19 point win over play-off hopefuls, the Eastbourne Eagles, on Monday night at their Arena-Essex Raceway. The match, which was sponsored by the Royal Air Force, was screened live by Sky Sports and provided some great racing for not only the fans at the Raceway but also the large TV audience. Time and time again the Eagles riders made better starts than the home side but the Hammers riders repeatedly found their way from the back with manoeuvres that saw them come through both on the inside and outside of their opponents.

Hammers Take All the Points but it's a Vital Week Ahead

The Lakeside Hammers have taken all five available Sky Sports Elite League points from their two matches this week following their home win against the 2007 treble Champions Coventry on Wednesday and away at play-off hopefuls Ipswich on Thursday. Those five vital League points move the Essex Club up into second place in the table one point below leaders Poole, who have ridden two matches more and one point above Swindon who have ridden three more matches. In fourth place are Eastbourne who are six points behind the Hammers but have ridden four more matches.

Hammers Make a Change to Their Squad

Following a resounding 56-37 point victory at their Arena-Essex Raceway on Wednesday evening over last season’s treble winners, the Coventry Bees, Jon Cook, the Hammers Co-promoter and Team Manager announced a new signing for the Club. Finnish International Kauko Nieminen has been drafted into the squad to replace the Hammers present No.8 Chris Mills. 29 year old Nieminen, who rides for the Workington Comets in the Premier League, is delighted to have the opportunity of competing at the top level in this Country as and when required but he will continue to race for the Comets, where he is currently second in their averages.

1991 Arena-Essex Winning Team Back Together For One Night Only

The most successful team in Arena-Essex’s 25 year history have agreed to turn out for a special one night only appearance at Paul Hurry’s ‘Battle Of Lakeside’ at the Arena-Essex Raceway on 18th July. The members of the treble winning team will all be there on the night when Speedway honours one of its nice guys. One or two of them may even be tempted back on a bike for a few laps.

Hammers Face Wolves In Vital League Match

The next task for the high flying Lakeside Hammers Speedway team is to defeat Wolverhampton in a vital Sky Sports Elite League match at their Arena-Essex Raceway this coming Friday, 11th July. Historically Wolverhampton have fully tested the Hammers around their Essex circuit in the past so the Hammers will go into this meeting in a very determined mood. The present difference in the League positions of the two sides will mean nothing on the night as the Hammers will be looking to keep their 2008 undefeated home League record intact. The Hammers are currently in third place in the Sky Sports Elite League whereas the Wolves are just one place above the bottom club, Coventry, who won all the major team championships last season.

World Cup Winner Agrees to Ride For Hurry

Former Grand Prix rider and World Team Cup Winner Peter Karlsson, has agreed to ride in Paul Hurry’s ‘Battle Of Lakeside’ on 18th July 2008 at the Arena Essex Raceway. The Swede who was victorious in the semi final round of the 2009 Grand Prix qualifier in his native Sweden last weekend, has agreed to ride for his former Wolverhampton team mate.

Hammers See of the Bees

The Lakeside Hammers roared to a very impressive 34 points victory over last season’s triple champions, the Coventry Bees, in last night’s Sky Sports Elite League match at their Arena-Essex Raceway. The win moves the Hammers up two places in the table, up into third place, but they have four matches in hand over the top two, Swindon and Poole. A top two place at the end of the season is important as it will give the Essex based Club a home draw in the semi final of the play-off’s for the League title.
