Graves Motorsports Ben Bostrom Wins the 2008 AMA Supersport Championship

Graves Motorsports racer Ben Bostrom won the 2008 AMA Supersport championship with a gutsy second-place finish in the series’ final round at Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif. on Sunday, Sept. 28. The championship is Bostrom’s third career title (to go with his Supermoto and Superbike honors) and the first in the Supersport class for Yamaha’s YZF-R6 since 2006. Teammate Josh Herrin made a strong run to the podium to finish third and wind up the season solidly in fifth.

Steve Rapp Disqualified from Laguna Seca Supersport Race

AMA Pro Racing announced today that Steve Rapp has been disqualified from the July 19, 2008 AMA Pro Honda Oils Supersport Championship presented by Shoei round at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca following the outcome of post race technical inspections. The cylinder head from the #15 Attack Kawasaki was sent to AMA headquarters in Pickerington, Ohio, and was compared to other production cylinder heads from the same model. Upon this inspection, the cylinder head was found to be in non-compliance of the 2008 AMA Superbike Championship Rulebook.

Ben Bostrom Wins Again and Extends Supersport Lead

In sweltering hot conditions, Ben Bostrom used his Graves Motorsports YZF-R6 and superb physical conditioning to annihilate the competition at the fourth round of the 2008 AMA Supersport series in Sonoma, California on Sunday, May 18th. At his home track and with plenty of his old high-school buddies in attendance, Bostrom shattered the Supersport track record in qualifying, set fastest time in Sunday morning’s warm-up, and then managed the race with authority to take his third win of the year, extending his points lead in the process. After three straight podiums this year, teammate Josh Herrin wasn’t so fortunate this time, finishing sixth after running as high as third in the early going.

Hacking Getting Back Into AMA Supersport Championship Picture

Never count out Jamie Hacking. After a spectacular crash in round two of the Pro Honda Oils Supersport Championship presented by Shoei in Birmingham, Ala., in April, Hacking’s Monster Energy Kawasaki lay in shambles. His title defense hopes appeared to be in the same sad state. Now, as the series moves to Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, on June 24, Hacking has scratched and clawed his way back into championship contention.

Hayes And Hayden Battle For AMA Supersport Lead

Josh Hayes is hoping to return Honda to prominence in the Pro Honda Oils Supersport Championship presented by Shoei. So far, so good for the Gulfport, Mississippi rider. Hayes, of Erion Racing Honda, leads the series standings coming into round four at Infineon Raceway, in Sonoma, Calif., on Sunday May 20. A few weeks ago Hayes was tied for the series lead with Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Roger Hayden, but after scoring a runner-up finish last month in Fontana, Calif., to Hayden’s third, Hayes has opened up a narrow four-point gap on his rival. Both riders are seeking their first Supersport win at Infineon.

Honda Is Back In Supersport Championship

The AMA Supersport Championship has long been sponsored by Pro Honda Oils, but it’s been four years since Honda has seriously contested the highly competitive series. Last week at Barber Motorsports Park Josh Hayes rode to a convincing victory on his Erion Honda CBR600RR in the second round of the Pro Honda Oils Supersport Championship presented by Shoei.

To Start New Superbike Class Structure In 2009

AMA Racing announced today that it will implement a new class structure for the AMA Superbike Championship beginning with the 2009 season. The new class structure will feature three championship classes with accommodations in place to run developmental/support classes as part of the overall series.

Newly signed Yoshimura Suzuki rider Tommy Hayden brought home an impressive podium finish in his first AMA Supersport race aboard the Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R600 at Daytona International Speedway. "I was really glad to get on the podium," said Hayden. "Hats off to my Yoshimura Suzuki crew for giving me such a great bike in the GSX-R600. They did a great job and welcomed me and helped make the transition to a new team as easy as possible."

Supersport Championship Celebrates 20th Anniversary At Daytona

It was 20 years ago that the AMA Supersport Championship kicked off at Daytona International Speedway. Doug Polen won the inaugural race and went on to win the title. Now called the Pro Honda Oils Supersport Championship presented by Shoei, it’s fitting that reigning champion Jamie Hacking opens his title defense this coming Thursday, March 8. Hacking, matched Polen last year as the only other rider in history to win both the AMA Supersport and AMA Superstock titles in the same year.

British Yamaha Rider Takes USA Titles Early!

Yamaha rider Jamie Hacking recently wrapped up both the US AMA Supersport and Superstock titles on his YZF-R6 and YZF-R1 respectively, with one round left to go. Hacking led home a Yamaha 1-2-3 in the Superstock race to win the title at Road Atlanta with a race remaining at Mid-Ohio.

Hacking took the title in fine style, dicing with M4 EMGO Suzuki riders Geoff May and Michael Barnes, who each took a turn in the lead, en route to his sixth consecutive victory aboard the factory Yamaha.

Yamaha’s Jamie Hacking, of Denver, N.C., brings a two-race winning streak to Sunday’s Pro Honda Oils Supersport Championship presented by Shoei at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah. Hacking’s victory earlier this month in Elkhart Lake, Wis., pushed his lead to 32 points over Team M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Geoff May. That makes his lead in the series this year much more comfortable than the 10-point advantage he held over Damon Buckmaster at this same point in the season in 2003, the year Hacking won his first AMA Supersport championship.
